Blue Green Rug

Am feeling overwhelmed with how busy this week is! Am fully booked at school, am fully booked with tutoring and I have a job interview on Wednesday evening for a technical writer position. All very exciting! Workwise, it never rains but it pours.

The downside of all the busyness is that there is less time to play.

Carnival Sculpture

Another quiet day. Spent too much of it working on revision notes for one of my students. Guess that is why they pay me the big bucks.

Crystal Wonder

Not much to say tonight. Decided to let my art speak for me.

Finally Friday

After a hectic week am relieved that it is finally Friday. Work has been wonderful but am currently exhausted and in need of a weekend. Next week looks like it will be even busier than this week. This is a good thing :)

The above image is simply called "V-Tex".

Snowing Summer

The weather this past week has been glorious. Clear skies and lovely warm sun every day. Bliss.

Below is a picture of snow dedicated to those less fortunate beings in the Northern hemisphere who will soon get to experience the real thing.

The above graphic was created using Context Free Design Grammmer.

Dead Cat Economy

This morning on the news they told us we have a "dead cat" economy. Apparently despite a flurry of impressive statistics that came out in July, we are heading for trouble. Turns out that you can throw a dead cat off a building and it will bounce, but the cat is still dead. Our economy is the same. Live and learn.

The above graphic is simply called "Pink Scales". For the record, I still hate pink.

Dragon Skin

Today was hectic to say the least. Just have time to post another "textured" image before going to bed. Tomorrow is another busy day. Fun, fun, fun.

Rainbow Scales

Got a call today and am now working as a junior Maths teacher for the rest of the week. It should be fun. My theory is that teaching junior Maths is easier than teaching junior Science. Will finally get a chance to see if this is true or not.

The image above was created on Saturday night. Turns out I still don't have much of a life!

Cracking Up

Inspired by other Apophysis artists, have been trying for months to create textured images. Finally did something right. Below is the result.

Must confess to cheating a bit with the image above, I used Paintshop Pro to sharpen it up.

Mesmerising Mosaic

The image below is yet another Context Free creation. Super observant types might realise that the design is an adaptation of the 'rose' from yesterday's post.

The cool thing about this one is that its made up of lots (and I do mean lots) of tiny squares.

Not Quite a Rose

Monday is Labour day over here so today is the start of a three day week end. Why is it called "Labour Day" if we all take off work??

The above was created with CFDG and is called "Not Quite a Rose".

Flame Grilled

My feet are really sore after dance last night. This has a lot to do with the fact that I am an idiot! I put on my work shoes instead of my dance shoes by mistake and instead of turning round and going home to change decided to dance barefoot instead. Big mistake. My feet are now "Flame Grilled"!

The fractal above is called "Flame Grilled Prawn".

Small Blue Beads

Have been waiting a while to post this one. I have always had a thing for beads and alternating blue triangles. I don't know why this is.

The above graphic was created using Context Free Design Grammar.

Zag Bloom

Presenting one of my more unusual Apophysis creations.

Spent most of today writing revision notes for one of my students and creating an interactive map for a website that I am working on. It was fun.

Orange Blossom

NZ is officially the first country to celebrate everything (including Sukkot). The strange thing about celebrating Sukkot "down South" is that it is a harvest festival and we are six months away from harvest time!

Below is an orange blossom to remind everyone that it is spring time over here.

For the record, I am sore from yesterday's Sukkah building exercise. Turns out upper body strength is not my thing.

Father / Son Fuzzball

Today I
  • Helped build a Sukkah
  • Visited a friend and fixed his mail merge problem
  • Danced

Below is a Context Free Creation from a while back. Enjoy.

Shadow Man

Nothing exciting happening at the moment. Am not complaining but am looking forward to sukkah building and dancing tomorrow.

The graphic above is titled Shadow Man. Its dedicated to Johnny Clegg who is one of my favourite musicians. Shadow Man is the name of one of his songs.

Haunted Fuzz

Below are two stars to make up for the lack of a graphic yesterday.

The above is titled Haunting.

This one is called Star Fuzz.

Jewish Carpenters Required

Yom Kippur is finally over! Fast was easy and am looking forward to Sukkot.

The inspired advert below was published in our community notices at the start of the week. I liked it so much that I volunteered to help.

Subject:Jewish Carpenters Required - No experience a distinct advantage.

We will be assembling the community Sukkah this Sunday the 16th of October.

Helpers are required to assist with the assembly.

Tasks required include schleping, lifting light loads, screwing and giving advice on construction techniques. Some supervision, pointing and gesturing may also be required.

If you have a couple of hours you can spare us on Sunday 16th October, from 10.00am, it would be most appreciated.

As the Sukkah is a kit-set, the only tools used are electric screw drivers (with a posi- drive bit) and small step ladders. If you have either of these items that you can bring along, it will speed up the assembly.

Please email the office to advise if you are able to help out. We can never have too many supervisors!

The Sukkah Construction Committee

For those of you missing my usual graphic, don't despair. The digital art will return tomorrow.

Desert Poem

Behold, an image followed by some poetry!

A crystal flower,
made from sand.
A fragile gift
From a desert land.

Why the verse??

Cause its my birthday and I'll rhyme if I want to.

Soap Bubble & Stone Dish

Below are two Apophysis fractals that I created recently.

Above, a fractal "Soap Bubble". No water, no actual soap and no mess was involved in its creation.

This one is simply called "Stone Dish"

Lace Flower

Below is another Context Free Creation. The lack of colour is on purpose as adding colour tends to destroy the delicate nature of this piece.

Kiwi Koru

According to Wikipedia"The koru is the Maori name given to the newborn, unfurling fern frond and symbolises new life, growth, strength and peace. It is an integral symbol in Maori carving and tattoos."

The koru is used in a stylised form as the logo of Air New Zealand and as an iconic symbol of New Zealand flora.

Being a proud Kiwi, when the image above appeared on my screen, I knew exactly what it was :)

Below are two graphics created with Context Free Design Grammar. Enjoy.

The image above is called "Desert Dreaming".

This one is called "Rigid Ripples". I don't like it as much as "Desert Dreaming" but it is still blog worthy.

Rainbow Rock

We used to make "pet rocks" when I was a kid. This involved finding a really smooth flat pebble and painting it. Here is the fractal version.

New Year, New Toys!

Shortly before the New Year, I discovered a very cool new "toy" that lets me create some rather interesting designs. The program is a free download called Context Free and since downloading it have had a lot of fun. Below is one of my first designs.

The above image is called "Fire Flower".

For the record, dance camp last weekend was amazing!
