It is now late summer and the weather is beautiful. The days are gorgeous and warm but I think the last of the humidity has passed. Life is good. The cicadas are in full song at the moment. Went for a walk today and could hear them most of the time. The trees and wooden fences in my area are littered with the casings that they leave when they moult.
Below, in all its glory, is an adult cicada. I think they are beautiful. Not everyone agrees!
Life is starting to get busy again. Have been booked for four days this week and its only Wednesday! Never mind. Work is good. Getting paid is better.
The voting is on for the Chaoscope monthly contest. One of the entries is mine.
Below is another fractal. It took a while to render but the wait was worth it. I have called it "Ghost Flower".
Turns out that Chaoscope has a really cool solid rendering mode used to creation the image below.
A while back, Tracy, of Artsy Science fame blogged about how on the back of a penny, you can see Lincoln's statue in the Lincoln Memorial. His Penny Wise post gathered quite a few comments.
Over here in NZ, we don't have 1c denominations and when I visited the States last year, those little copper coloured coins drove me nuts. I kept being called back by over zealous store people because I was leaving without my "change" of two or three pennies.
Needless to say, I was delighted to discover that places like the Smithsonian Museums and Disney Land obviously share my disdain for the penny, as they actively encourage one to squash them.
I would have squashed more pennies if they had not charged an extra 50c (US) for the privilege. Below, are my three squashed penny souvenirs. The one on the top right is from EPCOT center, sadly it is not as clear as the ones from the Natural History Museum and "Air and Space".

The image below is, believe it or not, a fractal. It was created using Chaoscope, which is a free, easy to use fractal generator.
The Monarch's are beginning to emerge from their chrysalis, so being insanely determined to capture the process, I "camped out" yesterday alongside one of the "shrink wrapped butterflies" and waited. The wait was rewarded and the pictures below are the result.

For some reason I found this fractal rather comforting.
For the record, it is raining. Surprise surprise.
This is an old fractal that I rediscovered. It looks three dimensional because of the very cool "emboss" feature that comes with Tierazon.
