Tap Dancing

The graphic below was created for my third WET Challenge. This one was voted for by one person. Despite the fact that this one was not a "winner", it was still fun to make and it did get a lot of positive feedback.

Today's Gratitude Item: My broken watch strap has been replaced. Thanks dad :)

Blue Synergy

The poster says it all :)

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that I don't have to get up at 6.00am tomorrow morning. Workwise, am wondering what tomorrow will bring.

Intimate Pathways

Took forever to decide on the colour of this one! My mom helped to name it. Click on the image below to enjoy the full size.

Today's Gratitude Item: Had a great afternoon nap, a wonderful dance session and I have work set up for tomrrow. Its all good on this end.

Tactile Sensation

If this was music, what would it sound like?

Today's Gratitude Item: Artistic challenges and the feeling you get when a piece turns out "just right".

Artistic Boredom

A while back, I was bored. The graphic below was the result.

Today's Gratitude Item: I did not get called to work today so have had a lovely day "off". Had time to play, do some ironing, read a book and watch TV. Have not really watched TV all week so this was a rather special indulgence. The weekend ahead looks like it will be quite "action packed" so am grateful for the "breather" that I had today.

Passionate Pink

Just for the record, I still don't like pink. This work was created for the WET challenge and whilst it was fun to make, it did not get any votes. Guess the general public out there does not like pink either.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting another private student to tutor. It means a being rather busy but it also means some extra cash which is always a good thing.

Sponge Fantasy

A little "spherical" goes a long way.

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that my entry in this weeks "WET Challenge" has received at least one vote - Thanks mla3302. So far, have entered the competition three times and this is the first time anyone has ever voted for one of my entries. The actual entry will feature on this blog in the not too distant future.

Paradise Path

Returning to "classic apo" is like visiting a favourite place. Was pleased with how this one turned out. Normally I prefer more vibrant colours but the pastel shades "work" in this piece.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to have an early night. I am "zonked" after a late night last night followed by an early morning this morning.

Spiral Reflection

This one was inspired by Emrys, a fellow artist who asked me for feedback on one of his flames.

Today's Gratitude Item: Time off for good behaviour. Got let out of school earlier than expected as the regular teachers had "professional development". This means that instead of finishing at 3.20pm, we finished at 2.50pm. Part of the "saved" time was due to a shorter lunch break but being able to go home slightly early was certainly appreciated.

Eat Fresh

Guess who had subway for lunch the other day? Sometimes food can inspire "art".

Today's Gratitude Item: Child Labour. I volunteer at the Jewish library and today had a 10 year old helper. His mom brought him in and he was looking bored so I did my teacher impression and before the poor guy knew it, he had been roped into helping out. It was great. Together we managed to cover quite a few books and the kid even knew how to shelve them in the right place. Very impressive.

Dedicated to all those out there who know how to use the "shift" key. Emails and blog entries totally lacking in capitals are one of my pet peeves. I find lowercase text more difficult to read which is probably why it is so annoying.

Today's Gratitude Item: Time out. It is great to be able to simply "chill" and read a book. No pressure, no place else to be. Priceless.

Took a while to get this one "just right". I am being serious here, no pun intended.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having just enough time to post this entry before going to synagogue. What can I say, Shabbat is a wonderful thing.

First Light

This is my first attempt at the amazing circles light challenge. It was fun to make.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting back to work. It is nice to be earning money again and the school I taught at today was lovely. Great kids, great staff. Even better, they have booked me in advance for two more days in the not too distant future. I love getting repeat business.

The clock is an amazing circle which used an apophysis fractal as a base. Lots of post processing involved in this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Returning to Wednesday night Israeli Dance class! It was awesome. Really wonderful to be back. The group seems much closer this year which is good. Must be because we have been together for quite a while now.

Let the Games Begin

I should have posted this one a while back, but better late than never.

Today's Gratitude Item: Was initially booked for only half a day's work but got to work the full day (which means getting paid for a full day). Also had a really crunchy apple for morning tea! Said apple was so good that it deserves a special mention.

Tu B'shvat 5766

Today is Tu'Bshvat. I knew about it but *forgot* to create a piece to celebrate the occasion until Soccer Dad reminded me. Below is a "tree fractal" complete with full moon.

Today's Gratitude Item: The trees all around us of course! That and the cicadas which are still "at it" full swing with their "beautiful noise".

Eye Bumps

Having these gives one a whole new kind of vision.

Today's Gratitude Item: My computer is behaving itself so far and one of my students from last year has already signed on for more tutoring this year. Repeat business is very good - for one thing, it saves on advertising.

Wonder what creature will emerge from this one?

Today's Gratitude Item: My neighbours came back from Hong Kong which means that not only don't we have to clear their mailbox anymore, but they also bought us some really cool things. I was thrilled to bits to receive another 256Mb data stick. As you know, I seriously love those things and now that I have two of them, can take my data with me and have a "safe" copy at home as well. Life is good. Computer *sort of* behaving. As long as I don't use Mozilla, it seems OK. Just don't quote me on that. Happily a friend has offered to visit and "work his magic" if said computer does not get its act together. For the record, friends are much more important that computers :)

Emerald City

A birds eye view of the wizard's abode.

Click on the image above to access the large version

Today's Gratitude Item: The 256Mb memory stick that my brother gave me a while ago. With my current computer issues, this stick has prooved to be invaluable. I have backed up some of my vital stuff onto it and it is great! I love the fact that these little babies are portable and can carry so much information. My computer is still "dodgy" but have defragged it, set it back to sometime last November and am avoiding using Mozilla to see if that will help (all the problems began when Mozilla updated itself!), so far, so good.

Dense Green

Perhaps it should have been named "Grey Green". I would be a lot happier right now if my computer was working as it should. Thing is refusing to start up, even in "safe mode". Am "making do" on my dad's computer. This is not fun for me!

Today's Gratitude Item: Today is our 12th "anniversary". My family and I arrived in New Zealand 12 years ago today from South Africa. NZ is a great country and I am grateful to be able to live here.

Kaledoscopic Exploration

All the graphics that make up the composition below are based on the same Apophysis flame which has been "kaleidoscoped" using the "kaleidoscope" effect in Paintshop Pro. Some intense recolouring of said graphic was also involved.

Click on the image above to access the large version

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that it did not rain too hard when I went for my walk today. It was cold / overcast but it only drizzled a tiny bit and thankfully the "wet patch" did not last long. Having cooler weather is a wonderful thing as it is much easier to walk when it is not hot and humid.

Popular Poppy

This one was inspired by dawnzy58's rather special Pink-Yellow which started off as a huge hibiscus. "Popular Poppy" started off as, you guessed it, a huge poppy. Not exactly original but still quite nice.

Today's Gratitude Item: A great haircut. Lets just say that my current hairdresser is wonderfully talented. The only problem (for me) is that she is moving far away from Auckland which means that in the not too distant future will once again be searching for a hair care professional.

Circular Butterfly

Was wondering what a butterfly would like transformed into an amazing circle. Now I know.

Those of you have been following this blog for a while, may remember that I have a "thing" for Monarch butterflies. Read more at the posts below:

Today's Gratitude Item: Went to a fascinating lecture this evening titled "The terrorists among us: Jihadists in Western Democracies". The speaker, Steven Emerson was articulate, interesting and passionate about the subject. All in all it was an evening well spent.

Amazing Blossoms

Anyone remeber those spherical glass paperweights? This looks a bit like one of them. The graphic below is an "Amazing Circle" rather than a fractal.

Today's Gratitude Item: Writeable CD's. They make backing up information very easy.

Porus Sunset

It could almost be coral. If you look closely, you can see a spiral at the bottom RHS of this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Afternoon naps. That is what Saturday afternoons were made for :)

Sunrise Wheat

Looks so good that perhaps I should make it into a serial (or is that cereal??). Apologies for the lame pun. Lets just say I was in a somewhat strange mood when this graphic was created.

Today's Gratitude Item: Inspiration that occurs when taking a long walk. Today an idea for a whole new series of graphics was born, the actual pictures will take a while to appear on this blog but hopefully it will be worth the wait.

Wasted Time

This one took 3 hours and 48 minutes to render and it is not the nice smooth looking object that I had hoped it would be. There is nothing quite like the disappointment of a rough render. Especially one that has taken so long!

Today's Gratitude Item: Pomegranate and Grape Tea. This is a "new" one that I tried this morning for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. It has a wonderful fragrant smell and a light taste. Very very good.

Sometimes, I just need a change. In this case, switched from Apophysis to Chaoscope.

Today's Gratitude Item: Okey Dokey apples*. They are just coming in season and are tart and crisp. Just the way apples were meant to be. They are particularly delicious when cut into slices, wrapped in filo pastry, sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar and then baked in the oven for about 20 minutes. Served with ice cream of course.

*Okey Dokey apples are one of the many varieties of apples available over here. They are a smaller version of "Gala" apples and are crunchier than the ever popular "Pacific Rose" variety.
