Restless Tide

Took a break from Context Free and came up with this. Finding names for these fractals is sometimes the toughest part of the process.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I am all ready to go back to school tomorrow. My laundry is done, the house has been cleaned and my alarm clock is set!

Flower Square

Another Context Free creation. This one turned out even better than expected.

For some reason, these are really satisfying to make.

Today's Gratitude Item: Fresh guacamole salad. Take one ripe avocardo, cut it in half, mash with a hint of pepper, some salt and a splash of vinegar. Spread over warm French bread. The perfect meal for one. Keep other half of avo for a "rerun" tomorrow.

Opening Out

Created with Context Free. It makes a nice change from my "usual" offerings.

*This post has appeared early than usual as I won't have time to update my blog before Shabbat comes in. Lets just say I have places to go and people to see (which sounds much more exciting than it actually is).

Today's Gratitude Item: Sea breezes. When I get close to the water on my daily walk, there is usually a delightful cool breeze that makes the whole experience that much more special.

Blue Moon II

This one is for the wolves.

Howl away guys!

Today's Gratitude Item: That the free posters I made for the Jewish holidays are being enjoyed by the wider community. Today I found out that the progressive community have printed them out and put them on their noticeboard and someone else emailed me to see if it was OK to forward the posters on to a Jewish Studies teacher in London who would be able to use them. I am thrilled that they are being used / enjoyed! Of course said posters will be posted on this blog in due course.

This one got rendered at 1200 by 900 which is the biggest that I have ever rendered a fractal. Had fun with the frame as well which is quite thin (for me).

Today's Gratitude Item: The latest version of Apo came out a few days ago. Am grateful that it was released during the school holidays which has meant that I have the time to get to grips / enjoy it without worrying about the pressures of work. The fractal above was created with the "old" version of Apo. Stay tuned to this blog to see the "new stuff" in the not too distant future.

Anzac Day - 2006

The words in this poster are not mine. They are inscribed on the Birkenhead War memorial. More information about Anzac Day can be found at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Unlike last year, the weather was mostly fine today and I managed to get a spot of excercise without getting soaked.

Yom Hashoah 5766

Yom Hashoah is a time to remember and reflect. This composition lists just a few of the Righteous Among the Nations who risked their lives to save their fellow Jews.

Many of the names on the list were found on the Yad Vashem website.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: That there are more than "a few good men / women" out there who were / are willing to do the right thing, even though it may be risky / dangerous or inconvenient.

Gold Flower

I have learned that it is possible to salvage just about any Apophysis creation by using the "Kaleidoscope" function in PSP.

Throw in some Amazing Circles for good luck and you end up with quite a nice graphic.

To be fair, I did get lucky when playing with the "Colour Balance" options.

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that the customers at the library where I volunteer are generally patient and have a good sense of humour. It makes working there a lot of fun.

Calculated Creativity

Made for a WET challenge.

It was inspired by my dad's rather basic solar powered calculator which has round buttons. Suffice it to say, his device is not as colourful as the "improved" version.

Click on the image above to access the large version

Today's Gratitude Item: Chocolate. As in chocolate that you can give to clients when you forget that you were supposed to meet them because you are on "holiday" and have not actually consulted your diary all week. Said client called when I did not show up at the appointed time. I told her that I was experimenting with a new hair colour - "blonde". She said it was good to know that I am human and make mistakes. She also liked the chocolate :)

Done in a rush on a Friday afternoon when I should have been getting ready to go to synagogue.

Shabbat Shalom everyone!

Today's Gratitude Item: That I still have one more week of holiday :)

Universal Shell

The background resembles both a massive gallaxy and a relatively small shell. Makes you think, doesn't it? Apologies to Nedbank*.

*Nedbank is a South African bank that, during my childhood, ran a rather memorable ad campaign with the slogan "makes you think, doesn't it". Needless to say this little phrase quickly became cliched.

Today's Gratitude Item: Toast. As in sliced bread that has been heated up in a toaster. Happily Passover is done for another year and I can once again eat bread / yeast products :) I don't mind matzo but after eating it for eight days in place of bread, toast tastes like heaven.

Road to Sanctuary

Getting there is never easy, but its worth the journey.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting back to dance! Two weeks without class felt like an eternity. Am glad to get back and am really grateful for the new dance that we learned. Its in lines and its cool!

Forest Fantasy

I zoomed, rotated and then rendered. This one took about two and a half hours to render.

If you stare at it long enough, you can almost see the forest for the trees.

Today's Gratitude Item: Colour printers that can handle A3 paper and a father who not only has access to one of these gems but kindly printed off thirteen graphics for me. Now all I have to do is laminate them and put them on the walls of "my" classroom. For those of you who don't yet know, I have accepted a "long term" contract which means I will *mosty* be in the same place for two terms - just like a "regular" teacher.

This means actually having a classroom that I can decorate :) I will be teaching junior maths and have some Curve Stitched designs and fractals / motivational posters almost ready to go.

Bedtime Reading

The image featured on the cover of the magazine and used to create the Amazing circles in this piece are from Hubble Site.

Today's Gratitude Item: Rock / paper / scissors. A fantastic tool for deciding who gets to make the decision!

Chocolate Bliss

Dedicated to all those out there who love chocolate, Amazing Circles, Apophysis or all three.

Today's Gratitude Item: A taste of heaven! My mom makes the world's best coffee. Her "secret" ingredient is just a hint of vanilla essence. It is very, very good.

Cracking Up - Going Crazy

When it gets too stressful, things tend to either go round in circles, crack up or both. Purple is my "crazy" colour. On days like that, I blame my students.

Today's Gratitude Item: I now speak two out of the three official languages of this country. I did not suddenly acquire another language, rather a week ago the government finally passed the New Zealand Sign Language Bill.

Pesach 5766

Pesach Sameach everyone! This blog will be on a short break due to the upcoming festival. The next installment is planned for Saturday night, after Shabbat.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that my wonderful dad got my leather shoes resoled. I was supposed to give him said shoes in a bag on Sunday night so that he could organise to get the shoes resoled on Monday. Being a totally dope, I did not do this and left them hidden in the shoe drawer.

Needless to say last night I asked my dad if it was too late to give him the shoes for resoling. He said "Yes" (as in, yes, you are too late foolish daughter). I assumed that meant that he would not have time to do it and that it was my own dumb fault for not giving him the shoes earlier and now it was my problem.

I was wrong! The reason it was too late was because he had found my shoes and they were already in the shop being mended! Much to my delight, I received my resoled shoes this evening. Thanks dad! You are the greatest.

Radioactive Spill

The name really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cooler weather. Today we experienced a rather significant drop in temperature. This was really noticeable when I went on the treadmill and found it much easier than usual. Not sweating as much when doing exercise is, in my mind, a good thing.

Cobalt Destiny

A random fractal deserves a random name. Am pleased with how this one turned out.

Today's Gratitude Item: My cellphone. Or more precisely, my cellphone and my loving parents. Went for my usual walk today and whilst it looked like it *might* rain, it wasn't when I started out. I had just gotten beyond the halfway point when my pants start to ring, so I answer my phone and my dad tells me that it is raining back at the house (3.5 odd kays away). This was fine with me, cause it was totally dry where I was. Was just about done reassuring my dad that the weather was (literally) fine when the heavens opened. Guess who ran for shelter and waited to be picked up by her loving parents. Finished said walk at home on the treadmill :)

Amazing Leaf

I suspect that posting a variation on yesterday's image is cheating a bit but what the heck.

Presenting Autumn, Apophysis and Amazing Circles. Think of it as a three for the price of one special.

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that the celery in the fridge was past its use by date. This means that the apple my mom cut up to use in a celery salad for my dad had to be eaten before it went brown (the celery got thrown away). I volunteered to do the eating :) Nothing tastes quite as good as an apple that has been peeled and diced for you.

Autumn Leaf

Today is one of those days that I am going to let my art do the talking :)

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that I have had hot cross buns for "tea" three mornings in a row. Twice they were free :) For some reason, I kinda like hot cross buns but only at this time of year.

Blowing Bubbles

This one is a mixture of POV-Ray, Amazing Circles and disgustingly sentimental nostalgia.

It was created on a cold, wet Autumn day when I was longing for those childhood summers that seemed endless so long ago.

Today's Gratitude Item: Serendipity. That is when you manage to trade a PE class for a Biology class with a fellow reliever who happens to be a PE teacher. Its a rather boring story but it had a very happy ending for both of us :)

Amazing Stamps

Yet another WET challenge entry. All the circles in the stamps were generated from the image in the background.

Suffice it to say, this took a while to do. It was fun though. Best viewed in the larger sizes (accessible by clicking on the image below).

Today's Gratitude Item: That my internet is working again. Missed posting last night cause the Net was down. Very annoying :( Happily, the problem was with my ISP and has been "sorted" which is kiwispeak for fixed. It is amazing how much we take things like the Internet for granted.

Monday, April 03, 2006

This one reminded me of the leaves that are currently falling from the trees.

Part of the reason that I love Autumn is that it is the most beautiful season of all. That beauty is tinged with sadness as I know that it is transient and will be replaced by a cold, dark and wet winter.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting slightly cheaper petrol than expected. Price adevertised on the board was $1.56 per litre, price on pump was $1.57 per litre. Guy at the till was having a tough day due to the almost constant price changes so processed the price at $1.57 and then gave me a $1.00 change where he only needed to give me 75c. Its a small thing, but often it is the little things that matter.

All that Jazz

If you listen closely, you can almost hear the music.

Today's Gratitude Item: This may sound slightly "lame" but one of the patrons of the library where I volunteer gave me some really kind words of encouragement today. Those simple words really made my day. Gratitude is important and when people take the time to acknowledge services rendered it feels really, really good.

Antarctic Oasis

This one is dedicated to the Scientists down at Scott Base. Keep up the great work guys!

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that April Fools fell on a Saturday this year. Lets just say that April fools and relief teachers just don't mix.
