Lucky Stars

Was lucky to find these. Getting the image looking "just right" took way longer than anticipated.

Lucky Stars

Today's Gratitude Item: Grow-a-brain is today's gratitude item. Why? Because he linked here with the following comment:

Not Quite Perfect, a beautiful blog by a Kiwi artist, Dzeni. Every day she posts an original, usually-gorgeous image, done with some fancy-shmancy fractal software, as well as a daily Gratitude Item. Best browsed through the archives

This is certainly one of the nicest reviews I have ever received. Thanks!

Mountain View

This one involved a lot of "playing" in Paint Shop pro after the original "mountain" was created. The big brown moutain is a larger, recoloured duplicate of the smaller one.

Mountain View

Today's Gratitude Item: Air conditioning. Or to be more precise, the fact that we have aircon in the living room. Its been hot and very humid this past week so being able to literally "chill out" is something I am not taking for granted.

Blissful Blues

My favourite hue,
Is simply blue.

Blissful Blues

Today's Gratitude Item: GIMP is today's item. It is free, and does the polar coordinate thing, which is cool, especially if you want to try and make Amazing Circles.

Green Sponge

Swirling through the ocean deep,
This image, I think I'll keep.

Green Sponge

Today's Gratitude Item: I am grateful that both of my parents are really good sports. They asked me to show them how to manually calculate square roots and gave it a good go. Was amazed at how quickly my dad picked up the concept. Now I know where I got my "math brain". Thanks dad!

Overhill - A green-blue mystery

This one is the result of a rainy, depressing day. For some reason, the deep blue-green is appealing. Happily today was neither rainy nor depressing.

Overhill - A green-blue mystery

Today's Gratitude Item: I am thankful that Monday is a public holiday meaning we have a lovely long weekend. Auckland Anniversary day, the holiday in question is of course only observed in Auckland. Theoretically, if one travels and times it right, it would be possible to have quite a few days off due to the differing Anniversary days in each region.

Potholes on the Way

Potholes on the way to paradise,
Riches on the road to glory.
In life's gamble you hold the dice,
Find a good end to this story.

Potholes on the Way

Today's Gratitude item: Inspiration from a friend who sent me a charming little email titled "Bubble and Geek" referring to my current screen issue. Needless to say a blog about the continuing IBM / ThinkPad saga was born.

Blue Ferns

New Zealand is a land filled with ferns, none of them were blue - until now.

Blue Ferns

Today's Gratitude Item: I am thankful for my handy digital camera that let me take a photo of the problem I am having with my G40 thinkpad screen so that I could email it to IBM. Hopefully they will solve the problem soon. For those wondering what the issue is, I have a "bubble" on both the LHS and RHS of my screen and this computer is just over two years old. Have told IBM it is not good enough and am waiting to see what happens.

Blue Labyrinth

Originally created to thank Emrys who was extremely kind and sponsored me a Pro Flickr account. Suffice it to say, blue is his favourite colour.

Blue Labyrinth

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that I have a book which explains how to find square roots without using a calculator. Its relatively easy compared with some other methods out there. This is a good thing because the private student I tutored yesterday asked how to do this and now I can show her.

Space Coral

Luck had everything to do with this one!

Space Coral

Today's Gratitude Item: Adult Ed tonight was really interesting. For some reason I really enjoyed it. Thanks Rabbi - it was great.

Light Squared

Sometimes its better not to "think outside the square".

Light Squared

Today's Gratitude Item: Telephones and the fact that local calls are free. Whilst email is wonderful, a phonecall is often a lot more efficient, especially when you want to discuss something rather than just send through information. Thanks AGB!

Coy Roy

I once knew a guy called Roy,
He was cute but quite coy.
We met near the beach,
I told him I teach.
And that's the last I heard of the boy.

ROY also stands for Red, Orange, Yellow which are colours of this composition.

The limerick above is based on a true story. For the record, Roy is a lovely human being and I wish him all the best. I guess "he's just not that into me".

Coy Roy

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that my parents spent all of yesterday and today putting in an irrigation system so that when they go on vacation, it will be really easy for me to water the garden. Thanks guys!!

Shell Gem

Beneath the sea, beyond the beach,
Lie treasures beyond our reach.
Nestled in the darkest deep,
Is a glistening crop we cannot reap

Shell Gem

Today's Gratitude Item: I am very grateful for PDF Online, they offer a free converter that changes Word, Excel and Publisher files (amongst others) to pdf files. Thanks guys, you are awesome!

Moss Cliff

I guess climbing up this one would be a real challenge.

Moss Cliff

Today's Gratitude Item: Having another web design project to keep me busy.

Leaf Detail

I am hopelessly addicted to creating fractals. The excuse for generating this one is that it is a good entry for the "Autumn" challenge that is being run on the Apo forum. What fun.

Leaf Detail

Today's Gratitude Item: A successful checkup at the dentist! No fillings needed. Will repeat the exercise next year. Was relieved, glad and very thankful when it was over.

Amber Chain

Made whilst showing a friend how to use the Tiling script. It turned out nicely.

Amber Chain

Today's Gratitude Item: Am amazing thing happened today. I received a free flickr pro account from a fellow artist who liked my work. This was something that was totally unexpected and it blew me away. The advantages of having a "pro" account are that I can organise my graphics far more effectively and am also able to upload more. Naturally this is something for which I am very very grateful.

Frilly

I don't like frilly things. There is something about them that I found most annoying. Wonder why that is. Even the signature is frilly. Ewww.

Frilly

Today's Gratitude Item: Another great weekend has passed and I am still on holiday. Holidays are very very good :)

Shiny Star

Graphic below made with the full version of Mind Boggling Fractals (downloaded from the FracFan Forum). It makes a change from the usual Apophysis offering.

Shiny Star

Today's Gratitude Item: Amazing long summer days which seem endless. Being able to go for a walk at 8.00pm because the sun only sets at 9.27pm is a wonderful thing.

Sand Storm

Inspired by the "single triangle" challenge posted on the Apo Forum.

Sand Storm

Today's Gratitude Item: My brother. For helping me set up a professional looking, add free, forum. Thanks Bro. I owe you!

Dance Floor

Creating this one involved using the tiling script, zooming in and then waiting. Now all I need is partner to dance with. Any volunteers??

Dance Floor

Today's Gratitude Item: Coffee with a friend at Mission Bay. It was a wonderful, relaxing afteroon :)

Metal Work

The "today" in the rhyme below refers to New Year's day (which was when the flame was created). Time flies when one is having fun.

A pixel painting
carved in gold.
Made today,
It looks old.

Metal Work

Today's Gratitude Item: Free reserves at my local library until March the 10th. This service normally costs $1.00 per time - which can add up if you reserve lots of books. Have already reserved two "free" books. Life can be very good sometimes.

Patchwork Gallaxy

This one was made using a new Tiling script that was publicised on the Apophysis mailing list.

Patchwork Gallaxy

Today's Gratitude Item: I am deeply thankful for the help and support that I have received from a number of people in the course of my latest project. The basic plan is to set up a forum for single Jewish New Zealanders in the hope of putting people together and kick starting my somewhat pathetic love life. If it does not work, am no worse off than before :)

Knitted Reptile

A mixture of knitting and reptile skin.

Knitted Reptile

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that I had time for an afternoon nap before my student came. Said nap was very very good.

Crinkle Paper

Below is a nice calm fractal. The end to a rather tranquil weekend.

Crinkle Paper

Today's Gratitude Item: Dance class restarted tonight and it was wonderful to get back to it. A good time was had by all.

Cubist

Not quite Salvador Dali, but if you look at it carefully, you will see a cube.

Cubist

Today's Gratitude Item: Isaac Asimov's "Black Widower" stories. I really enjoy Asimov's writing and discovered these short stories in the library the other day. It is a real treat to read such well crafted tales.

Algal Bloom

The image below was created with Apophysis and framed using Paint Shop Pro. Its signed on the frame as the signature did not show up very well when placed on the "canvas".

Algal Bloom

Its been a very long day in the kitchen. Am grateful for the opportunity to sit down! As I said before, in life, its the little things that matter.

Deep Rainbow

I am always amazed at how much even a small amount of tweaking can change an image. The small image (bottom right) is the initial image generated in Apophysis. The large "rainbow shell" is the result of some tweaking and a gradient change. Often the changes from start to finish are even more dramatic than in this example.

Deep Rainbow

Today's Gratitude Item: I am grateful for the fact that I filled up with petrol this morning before all the fuel companies raised the price by 3c per litre. The little things do matter and beating the price hike made a nice change.

Beyond Twightlight

Beyond sunset,
Before full night,
Lies a special place,
Filled with delight.

Beyond Twighlight

Today's Gratitude Item: I am grateful for the vast amount of knowledge that is literally a few keystrokes away. Researching or finding facts using the Internet is so much easier than having to consult an encyclopedia. It still blows me away how much information is out there, especially compared to 20 years ago when I was a kid.

Christmas Shell

The graphic below was named for the fact that it was created on Christmas day 2005.

Christmas Shell

Today's Gratitude Item: Jdates gone wrong is today's item. It is a great little blog that helped me to get some perspective on the whole dating (or in my case lack thereof) thing. Its probably not a good thing to take pleasure in other people's misfortune but some of the stories on there were quite amusing and it reminded me that there are worse things than being single and dateless.

Funky Gown

Wouldn't it be cool to have a ball gown made from this fabric?

Funky Gown

Today's Gratitude Item: Movenpick Mocha icecream enjoyed in a waffle cone with friends. Did not need to feel guilty about enjoying the icecream as it was preceded by a rather long walk.

Spider Spiral

Silky strands woven in time.
Create a web that is divine.
Light falls on it a certain way,
Enjoy the view of a dying day.

Spider Spiral

Today's Gratitude Item: I am thankful for the Apophysis Mailing List. The people who post there are talented, creative, helpful and inspiring. Their generosity of spirit has made all the difference. Thanks guys!
