Knot a Problem?

Lets just say that this is the result of a tough day at the "office".

Knot a Problem??

The full sized image can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A nifty / cool script that was posted on fracfan which makes making "plastic" flames (like the one above) really easy. Thanks Trystian!

Hasty

I don't know where this one is going, but its in a hurry to get there!

Hasty

The full size image can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to help one of the students in my 10th grade study group. She had a physics test last period today, so I tutored her in fourth period when she had study. This is good because it means that I was not bored out of my tree and she was very pleased with how the session went.

Galactic Frisbee

This toy works best in zero gravity. Batteries not included.

Galactic Frisbee

The large version of the above graphic can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my worst year 10 student will not be in my class on Friday. His behaviour was so bad that I have organised for him to be withdrawn from class and instead of doing a fun practical activity, he will have alternate paperwork to do. With him out of my hair, hopefully the class will go well. I don't have any year 10 classes tomorrow which is great! For some reason, the kids at that age can be rather difficult. For those of you not in NZ, year 10 translates to 9th grade.

Impression

Basically this one is a fractal footprint.

Impression

The full size image is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Fuzzy gloves in both pale blue and grey. They are warm and match my two favourite tops perfectly. The downside of said gloves is that one cannot type / write easily with them on and one freezes without them :) Gotta love this winter weather. They were also cheap at only NZ$2.00 per pair.

Solace

This is the result of luck and "playing" with the weight of one of the triangles in Apo.

Solace

The full size image can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my students only broke one boiling tube whilst doing an experiment which involved the thermal decomposition of a metal carbonate. My colleague's class managed break at least three of them in one session. Turns out those boiling tubes are not as resilient as we would like them to be.

Smooth Operator

There's a song about this one :)

Smooth Operator

The image is also available in large size.

Today's Gratitude Item: My new electric blanket! My parents bought it for me and it is the first time that I have used an electric blanket. Getting into a warm bed on a cold night is absolute bliss. Plus, I get a laugh out of the whole idea of "pre-heating" my bed.

Shadowplex

A fitting entry to the final day of "Monochrome Fest".

When the sun sets, and colour fades from the world, the Shadowplex remains.

Shadowplex

The super large version is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Clear skies and the time to enjoy them. Not using a computer during Shabbat used to be quite hard for me, but now it is routine and it is something that I really enjoy. It means a day of enforced relaxation with no one expecting you do update web pages, answer email or do anything computer related because they know what the answer will be. What can I say but thank G-d for Shabbat!

Mono Star

Created specially for "Monochrome Festival"!

Mono Star

The full sized version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a nice warm classroom on what was a freezing day. At least, most of us were freezing. My one student who was born in England was in short sleeves and was not cold at all (it was mufti day today - so the kids were far more colourful than usual)!

Monochrome Mitochondria

This one reminded me of mitochondria.

Its dedicated to all the cellular biologists out there :)

Monochrome Mitochondria

This one is worth seeing in full size.

Today's Gratitude Item: The ability to put information into a powerpoint slideshow and then upload it to the net. Said slide show will be shown to my Year 8 class tomorrow. Hopefully I can get it to play using IE. The school where I am currently working only has star office on their computers and in this case, you get what you pay for. Pretty much everyone finds Star Office difficult to use and the kids hate it.

Bones

This is one of my personal favourites. I don't know why :)

Bones

The original flickr page is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Restless turtles. At the moment my classroom is a science lab and at the back, there is a large terrarium which contains two turtles. Usually they are pretty content / quiet but the last few days they have been scratching at the glass and as if trying to make a run for it *its mating season or something*. We solved the problem (period one) by letting the turtles out, rinsing off the sand and then letting them roam around the room. It worked well. No more scratching glass sound and all students sitting in the seats and hardly moving lest the step on / squash a roaming turtle. I think the turtles were happy too. They walked around the room exploring everything and did not seem stressed at all (although it is hard to tell with turtles). A win-win solution all round.

White Waves

Made when I should have been asleep. I probably did not dream in colour that night :)

White Waves

The full size version can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: I will finally have access to a laptop computer at school! My HOD is going away and has left me his computer. Hopefully this will make things much easier.

Stormy Seas

Continuing with the monochrome theme, I present you with "Stormy Seas".

Stormy Seas

The flickr photo page for this graphic is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Piping hot potatoes in sauce for dinner on a freezing cold day. Lets just say that these potatoes tasted incredible, partly due to the fact that I literally came in from the cold to get them.

Sharp Sunday

This one was created six months ago in preparation for "Monochrome Festival". The Festival is finally here so all this week my blog will feature monochrome graphics.

Sharp Shades

Monochrome Festival is basically something I made up last year when it was cold and grey. Am repeating it this week and the guys at fracfan have joined in the fun.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cheap beads. Said beads were needed to model a concept for my senior Biology students and for $4.00 I got a large number of brightly coloured large beads that will work perfectly. The beads are actually part of kiddie jewellery which accounts for their sparkle and low price tag.

Spin City

Caution: Staring at this graphic for too long may result in motion sickness.

One has to worry when art comes with a warning label!

Spin City

The full sized image can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being mostly ready for school on Monday :) With any luck, my HOD will let me use his computer for my year 12 Bio class. Will take an alternate activity with me, just in case borrowing the computer is not possible.

Second Sanctuary

This reminded me a bit of a previous work called "Sanctuary" hence the name.

Second Sanctuary

The original image can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A super long Middle School assembly which meant that instead of seeing my Year 7 class for a double, (almost 2 hours), I only saw them for 30 minutes. Spent the rest of the time grading Year 8 papers which means less work to do at home on the weekend.

Made in NZ

Ferns are a New Zealand thing, hence the title.

Made in NZ

The full sized image can be seen at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: The super water resistant jacket that my mom brought back from the States for me. It is a gorgeous light blue and has a hood that does a great job of keeping the rain off. Said jacket is a billion times better than an umbrella as it is actually effective in windy conditions. Being warm and dry is not something to be taken for granted.

Carved Star

It could be a fossilised star fish on a good day. Made with Apo 2.04 using the final transform feature and the Julian variant.

Carved Star

The original image can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That it did not rain during the fire drill we had today.

Open for Business

I have finally opened up a shop over at CaféPress. Naturally, I would be thrilled if my regular readers would pay the shop a visit and then give me feedback. Basically I would like to hear your views on everything from design choice to pricing.

If you have a favourite graphic that is not currently on a piece of merchandise and you would like to change the situation, simply let me know what your wishes are. Turns out that there is a large amount of stuff that can be made at CaféPress so if you wish to request clocks, cards, stickers, buttons or magnets please do so.

This shop is an experiment. Of course it would be wonderful to actually sell some of my stuff.

As for the graphic below, it was made at a friends place whilst showing her what Apo can do. I emailed myself the params, came home and played :)

Snow Steppe

It is called "Snow Steppe" and is best viewed in large size.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being pretty much ready for my classes tomorrow after having spent long hours at this computer churning out worksheets and checklists for my students.

Turquoise Hope

Made with Apo 2.04. I "cheated" and edited out the noise around the edge using Paintshop Pro. The downside to this approach is that it took "forever" to do!

Turquoise Hope

Enjoy the large version at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my private students passed her Chemistry internal with a "Merit" grade! This is wonderful as both her mom and I worked with her and she used her brain on the day. This student finds Science quite difficult so to get Merit is a huge boost for her. A pass grade is "Achieved", "Merit" is one level up and this is followed by "Excellence" which is a top grade.

Space Roulette

Made with the same parameters as "coinage". Am constantly amazed by how small changes in the parameters can have a major impact on an image. Gotta love these chaotic systems.

Space Roulette

The original image is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my car had problems starting this morning. This has to be the strangest "Gratitude Item" yet. The reason that it is good that my car battery decided to start to "give out" this morning is that it is Sunday, which means that my dad is home which means that he has already organised for a new battery so that I can get to work tomorrow without any problems. If said battery decided to "die" during the week, it would be less easy to get it fixed. Needless to say, the AA battery service is a beautiful thing.

Phoenix Feathers

The "spiral thing" strikes again. This one reminded me of feathers, hence the title.

Phoenix Feathers

Enjoy the large image at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Perfect winter weather. OK, its cold but the sun was shining today and my walk was heaven. Not too hot, not too cold! Those simple things are what makes it all worthwhile.

Coinage

Made with Apo 2.04 from the same parameters as "sucked in".

Coinage

The large image can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: I am almost finished my junior reports. They have been proof read, edited and are ready to be put into the system. Whew!

Sucked In

This one was done a while back on a day that I was supposed to do some work but got sucked into playing with Apo instead. Whoops :)

Sucked In

In this case, the large version is worth looking at.

Today's Gratitude Item: My two most difficult students were away today! It is amazing how much one can get done when the "tough" kids stay home.

Crystal Cascade

An "old style" Apo creation. After so many "blob" pics, needed a bit of a change.

Crystal Cascade

This image is best enjoyed in large size.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having plenty of work. There is nothing like going "flat out" to make the time pass quickly. It seems like we are all trying to fit five days of work into a four day week!

Star Print

This is what happens when you mix a star with a fingerprint :)

Star Print

The original image can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Methylated Spirits (aka methanol). Its prefect for getting rid of ink stains / ink that is stuck at the bottom of an old pen container. Thanks for the tip mom :)

From Scratch

Both the images below were created with Apo 2.04 following the instructions from Tracey's Tutorial - Thanks Tracy! The problem was that I could not decide which one was "better". Voting on the issue was too close to call, so have opted to post both images. This is my "two for the price of one" special.

From Scratch From Scratch II

Simple click on the images above to enlarge them.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being successfully booked for Wellington as planned. Flights are booked and hotel room is all organised. The only thing left to do is to register for camp which is very easy to do. The best thing is that my teaching contract will be over by the time Labour Weekend comes around so I don't need to worry about asking for time off work.

WET Path

This path is not damp in any way. The graphic is a rather old WET challenge entry. The basic shape is an Apophysis fractal which has an amazing circle superimposed on it.

WET Path

The full size image can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to make some small changes to my standard logo and change it into a Geometry exercise for my students. I love "recycling".

Shavout Sameach

Shavout starts in about one minute! Hence the super short post.

Shavout 5766

The above can be viewed in large size at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: An HOD (Head of Department) who is simply spectacular! If I said anything more, she would just be embarrassed.
