Gold Grace

Finding the right gradient took a while. Am pleased with the result.

Gold Grace

The large version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I did not have to tutor the student I was supposed to see after school today. The break was sorely needed and most welcome.

Colour Splash

I have no idea how this happened! At least its symmetrical.

Colour Splash

A large version of the above graphic is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: The Kauri Trees at the bottom of our garden. Although they are relatively young, they are magnificent and just looking at them is a calming experience. I don't know why this is. Having such majestic trees right on one's doorstep is a great privilege.

This Way

"This is not a drill. Evacuate now. Follow the green lights to your nearest exit. This is not a drill...."

This Way

The original size can be seen at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Mum's bright red beanie* which is perfect for keeping my ears warm when walking on a cold clear day. The only problem with said beanie is that it is not very flattering! The good thing is that when people see me in it, they get a good laugh.

*A Beanie is the New Zealand term for a ski cap.

In Sync

Some times everything just drops nicely into place. Its good when that happens.

In Sync

The image above is available in large size.

Today's Gratitude Item: Its Friday afternoon and a wonderful weekend awaits me! One of us is in need of some R & R.

Warp 3

Engage!

Dedicated to all the "Star Trek" fans out there.

Warp 3

The large image is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A warm classroom early in the morning. Someone puts on the heat real early at school so my classroom is cosy when I arrive. Very nice.

Spiralus II

This one is the same flame as the yesterday's graphic. It just shows a different area of the flame with a different gradient.

Spiralus II

The above graphic can be viewed in large size at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my favourite jumper has very stretchy sleeves - perfect for unpacking the dishwasher when the crockery is still too hot to hold without protection (patience is not exactly my strong suit).

Tuesday, July 25, 2006

Spiralus I

Sometimes these things just happen. The second in this series is currently rendering. This one, in huge size took about 2 hours to do.

Spiralus I

The very large version can be seen at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Modular orgimami! Its great for making colourful models to teach students about geometric solids.

Gold Bridge

Got lucky with the gradient. Wonder what's on the other side of this bridge?

Gold Bridge

The large version can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to buy spinach again! With the rather wet weather we have been having, both spinach and lettuce became scarce. It got so bad that the veggie shop did not have any spinach for about a month. Happily things are now back to "normal".

Magen Sky

This one may end up as a greeting card. I created it after losing the parameters for a similar graphic (whoops).

Magen Sky

The large version can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of the libraries near by had a book that my mom asked me to borrow for her which saved me having to order it.

Floral Fantasy

Usually the ones on a white background don't look particularly pleasing. This one certainly breaks that rule :)

Floral Fantasy

The original image can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Saturdays! Not having to go to work, being able to sleep in late and spending the entire day reading a novel is something very special. Sometimes the "quiet life" can be very very good.

Outpost 52

Somewhere at the edge of civilisation, was Outpost 52.

Outpost 52

The large image is available at the preceding link. Many of you will recognise the above fractal. It is a direct result of Trystan's script with very little "tweaking". Its not very creative but it was a start.

Today's Gratitude Item: The filing cabinet in my classroom that got damaged during the move upstairs has been fixed. This is wonderful as I can now access the student files inside and can lock my computer away when it is not being used.

Magnetic Distortion

Done using Trystian's "plastic" script. For some reason, the rendered image looked much more solid than expected. Am not sure why this is.

Magnetic Distortion

The large version is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the deputy principal visited my one eighth grade class today and was pleased with how things went. It was one of the best lessons we have had all year.

Snail Spam

I really hate getting unsolicted snail mail, especially from finance companies / people trying to sell me stuff. Now what we do is we send the mail back marked "unsolicted mail" with one of these stickers. That means that the snail spammer then pays postage twice. Once to send the mail and once to have it returned. Needless to say, offenders rarely reoffend. If only there was a way to to this with email. Those of you who are observant, may notice that the snail's shell is actually an apophysis spiral.

No Snail Spam

Believe it or not, there is a large version of this graphic.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my students are such great amusement value. One of them told me today to "Think before you hassle". Needless to say, this little angel is in the habit of chatting, so I am in the habit of hassling her. Still, the rather candid comment did make me smile inside.

Silver Star

:)

Silver Star

The original image can be found at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an extension cord at school so that I can have my computer plugged in at the back of the room where my desk is. The reason for needing a cord now is that I shifted classrooms at the start of term and my old cord was not long enough for the new classroom.

Tidal Motion

This one took forever to get "right". Am glad that it finally worked out though. Sometimes making these images is really easy, and other times it is a real struggle.

Tidal Motion

The large image is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: First day of the new term and my worst student is not going to be back in my class! Needless to say this is a huge relief. Said individual had extreme behaviour issues and was wrecking my class. Now things are back to normal. They are not perfect - just normal. Normal is very very good.

Liquid Dream

Sometimes it is easier to let the fractal speak for itself. I wonder what this one is trying to say?

Liquid Dream

The large image is at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: The "undo" button. Need I say more?

Saturday, July 15, 2006

Light Phase

"Light Phase" is the name given to the process in photosynthesis which needs light to proceed. The "Dark Phase" (aka: the Calvin Cycle) follows the "Light Phase".

Who said biology was hard?

Light Phase

The large version can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: The greeting cards that I had printed featuring some of my work are finally ready. Am hoping that they look good. The plan is to pick them up from the printer (who also happens to be my brother) very soon. Thanks Bro.

Chaos Weave

The large version took over three hours to render! Happily it was worth the wait.

Chaos Weave

Today's Gratitude Item: Teflon pans. They make cooking easy. Especially when the dish in question is french toast (served with Canadian Maple syrup of course).

Cold Front

Created on a very cold winters day. The thing about those icy cold days is that they are often "nice from far" but "far from nice".

Cold Front

As always, a larger version is also available.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I *finally* managed to get the kids section at the library where I volunteer in some kind of order. It was a small section but what it lacked in size, it made up for in messiness. Now hopefully it will be much easier to use / keep neat. The key was putting labels on the shelves and separating out the various sections so it is all a lot clearer now. This "little" job took me six hours over two days to accomplish. Holidays are a wonderful thing.

Suprise

This one "appeared" with minimal "tweaking". Had problems deciding on the gradient but in the end managed to get it "sorted".

Suprise

The larger version can be seen at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: My car passed its WOF (Warrant of Fitness). In NZ, you need a WOF to be allowed to drive your car as in driving without one is illegal and will result in a fine (if you are caught). The idea is that a WOF ensures that the car is road worthy. They have to be done every six months which is a pain but it does help the mechanics pay their bills.

Blue Thing

Made from scratch a while ago using Apo 2.04.

Best enjoyed in large size.

Blue Thing

Today's Gratitude Item: The guy at the gas station pumped my gas for me! It was quite a shock to the system as most gas stations have become "self service". It was nice to see a friendly face and experience some real service at this service station. It would have been nicer if said gas did not cost so much, but you can't have everything. Gone are the days when we thought that $1.53 a litre was expensive, its now sitting at $1.70 *deep sigh*.

Solitude

Recommended for those times when two is a crowd.

Solitude

The original version can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being warm. There is nothing quite like being warm and cosy in winter. The key today was taking an afternoon walk followed by a very hot shower. Result? Heaven.

Odd Ball

Late Night + Bubble Variation = Odd Ball.

At least I can say that things are adding up well :)

Odd Sphere

The original image can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That blogger finally loaded up for me! Its been going slow yesterday and today and I am wondering what the story is. Still, can't complain too much - it usually cooperates and the price is certainly right :)

Wave Wall

You know you are having a bad day when it feels like a massive wave is about to obliterate everything. Enough said.*

*The graphic below and comment above were both created several months ago when work was rather stressful. Things are much better now. This has a lot to do with the fact that I am currently on vacation.

Wave Wall

The original version can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I finally solved the Sudoku puzzle I was working on. It said "easy" but for some reason, it wasn't. Must have been lack of sleep on my part. It took three tries to get it right.

Cascade

Took some time to get this one looking "just right" but am pleased with the result.

Cascade

The above image is best enjoyed in large size.

Today's Gratitude Item: The great classroom swap has successfully occurred! I also managed to plan most of my classes for the first week back. With any luck, my request for a new *comfortable* chair will be granted and the guys will move the heavy cabinet which is still downstairs up to my new room. I left a bright pink note telling them where to put it. Previous gripes aside, sometimes pink has its uses :) It must be said that going in to school during the holidays is a very weird experience.

Turbulence

Life never goes smoothly for long. If it did, we would probably get bored.

Having said that, all too often the turbulance we experience is generally not fun and it can feel pretty damn dark at times. Hence the colour choice and title of this graphic.

Turbulence

The full sized version can be viewed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my life is not too turbulent at the moment. I am enjoying the "smooth sailing" while it lasts.

Wednesday, July 05, 2006

Seedy

Things that are "seedy" need not always be bad. Sometimes they can be quite interesting.

Seedy

The detail is best enjoyed when viewed on the large size version.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I am almost totally recovered from my "dodgy spell" earlier in the week. I can't even say that I was sick, just had a slightly sore throat / runny nose that has now completely disappeared. Several of the dancers in my dance group were away sick tonight so the old winter 'flu is certainly making the rounds.

Reunion

Reunions are a beautiful thing. Especially when those being reunited fit closely together.

Reunion

The original image is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the person who looked after my Maths classes at school #1 (whilst I was looking after someone else's classes at school #2) emailed me about important changes that will be happening next term. Even better, she gave me the home phone number of a colleague at school #1 so that I can talk to him directly and find out what is happening. It looks like we will be switching classrooms which means I get the stairs and the view (of the motorway - yippee) and he gets a printer close by.

Fragile

Sometimes it does not take much to "break" things. Whilst this spiral looks a touch "thorny" it is actually rather fragile and should be handled with great care. The same can be said of many people.

Fragile

The full sized version can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Kleenex. Lets just say that without them, having a running nose would not be a pretty sight! I currently have the runny nose / slight cough thing happening. Am feeling fine, mostly - certainly not sick enough to take time off. Of course, getting the sniffles whilst on vacation is what responsible teachers do. We get sick in the holidays so that we don't need to take time off from teaching during the term.

Sunday, July 02, 2006

Marred

Sometimes that which is not perfect can still be considered "beautiful".

This one is for my students who just can't seem to get it right, for whatever reason.

Marred

Flickr is playing up a bit at the moment but you can try see the slightly bigger version at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I don't have to work tomorrow! I can't believe how fast this weekend has flown by and I would not be ready to go back to school on Monday. Happily I get to sleep in / relax tomorrow. I really love my life.

Pink Pretzel

I still hate pink, even in the shape of a Chaoscope pretzel. The new version of Chaoscope is very cool though and this is the result of a super quick play.

Pink Pretzel

The large version can be enjoyed at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Amazing weather made even better by the fact that shcool is out! Holidays rock. You know the saying "we love school, when its closed!"
