Gold Shell

Its amazing how many variations one can get from a certain "style".

Today's Gratitude Item: Our magnificent weather. Today was the second day in a row that featured blue sky and sunshine. The temperature was not too hot which made it perfect for being outside.

Clock Flower

This one reminded me of a clock face for some reason. The "braid" at the side is derived from the same fractal as the main image.

Today's Gratitude Item: A record day over at Shutterstock. I got 47 downloads which is much, much more than expected. Not nearly enough to quit the day job, but very encouraging nevertheless.

Magenta Cog

Explaining how this one was made would take a while. Suffice it to say, my regular visitors may recognise the style.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the washing is done and folded and that I have work for tomorrow!

Water Snake

Made from scratch! I followed Joel's instructions over at this thread in the Fracfan forum and this is what happened.

Today's Gratitude Item: The humble toothpick. No, I have not lost my mind, its just that these little pieces of wood can be rather useful. The frames for my first ever prints are finally complete and needed a bit of "filling" where the corners were slightly cracked (long story). Pine coloured wood putty and a toothpick made the job delightfully simple. Tomorrow the plan is to sand off the excess wood fill, cover the frame with another thin layer of beeswax and then they will be ready for auction!

Decorative Delight

I've managed to keep the "sphere" thing under control - until now.

Today's Gratitude Item: Beeswax. Its a perfect wax for use on natural wood. Its dead easy to apply and it looks (and smells) wonderful. A little also goes a very long way.

Jewel River

Looks a bit like old fashioned curtains. The icon space "blind" just continues the theme.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the weekend is finally here! This week has felt a lot longer than four days!

Thursday, October 25, 2007

Oh dear. It looks like the icon space was not properly stuck down. Its peeling away! For some reason, this image makes me smile.

Today's Gratitude Item: Water based wood filler. Its perfect for filling the slight gap in "my" wooden picture frames. Next step will be to sand lightly and then apply a coating of beeswax. Believe it or not, this frame making journey is actually fun.

Rushing Romance

The title really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: Top Gear reruns! It was one of "those" days today. The kind where if it could go wrong, it did. My dance class was canceled and I only found out after when I arrived at the venue (par for the course really). So I came home and walked on the treadmill. Top Gear managed to make me laugh, even after all the day's mishaps. Its not so much a car show as a comedy!

Wave Weave

This was a bit of a surprise! I post processed on of my Apo weaves in PSP (using the Reflection, Pattern tool) and this was the result.

Today's Gratitude Item: My dad found the ferry ticket that he thought he had lost. Bearing in mind that the ticket is worth about $30.00 finding it was certainly worth being grateful for.

Mask Weave

Named because it looks like its made up of a bunch of masks all stuck together.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having an awesome day off from work. I love public holidays!

Bubble Birth

This is the place where bubbles are born! was particularly pleased with how it turned out.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the South Africans won the Rugby World Cup and that the whole World Cup thing is over for another four years!

Winter Scene

I've started creating Christmas graphics for sale at Shutterstock. Its not as hard for me as it was last year. In fact, this tree turned out quite well. It was created using Context Free Design Grammar.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my neighbour did an amazing job of making frames for my prints (the ones that are going to be auctioned on the 9th November). His work is better than the picture framers down the road! Its all about getting the moulding accurately cut and joined - not as easy as one might think.

Metal Peaks

For some reason, I'm still not bored with these Apo "weaves". This one has a nice metallic feel to it.

Today's Gratitude Item: This really cool piece of software called efofex. It integrates into Word and lets one create graphs, geometry diagrams and a range of cool maths stuff. Its brilliant for making worksheets and tests for students.

Bird Blind

This one is a bit whimsical. I started making icon space at the top and realised that it looked just like my kitchen blinds! The string and ring were a logical extension of this idea.

Today's Gratitude Item: Easy classes. As in some classes are easier to motivate / relieve for than others. Today I had a "dream class" where most of the students were working hard, cared about the subject (Senior Chemistry) and even seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Wave Net

All that's missing from this fractal ocean are the fish and dolphins.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting let out of school a bit early! The school where I was today had a shortened day due to an important staff meeting after school. Seen as substitute teachers don't generally go to these meetings, I got to go home a bit earlier than expected :)

Woven Items

Same basic params as yesterday's effort, different final transform and gradient. I think the effect is rather interesting.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a whole lot of small things done! None of the various jobs were difficult or "big", just bitty. Bitty is not good!

Fire Curl

Identical to "Funky Pink Curl" but mirrored and with a flaming gradient. Could not decide which I preferred.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that I set my alarm clock wrong before it was, quite literally, too late. Note to self: 6am is not the same as 6pm!

Sunday, October 14, 2007

Flower Ball

Its green, orange and more "funky" than my usual offerings. What do you think?

Today's Gratitude Item: That my next door neighbour is passionate about framing stuff. Turns out its one of his hobbies and he was more than happy to frame my prints for me. It was a simple matter of buying the materials (very easy when you have a guide) and things are underway. Am hoping it all goes smoothly.

Molten Sun

Is it just me, or does this look a bit like a sunflower??

Today's Gratitude Item: Bendy plastic rulers. Turns out that they have many uses, one of which is to smooth out those annoying bubbles that sometimes occur when trying to cover books with contact adhesive.

Great Gauze

The "great" in this case is referring to the size of the gauze rather than its quality.

Today's Gratitude Item: How my stuff manages to find its way back to me, even when I misplace it by accident. That happened today with a library book that I put down at school and forgot to pick up again (long story - involving someone not being totally focussed due to a late night). Said book was given back to me by the school librarian who did a bit of "leg work" and found out it was mine. (insert sigh of relief here).

For the record, I usually don't lose / misplace stuff - but when I do, it pretty much always finds its way back to me, sometimes in amazing ways.

Tartan Hearts

Look closely at the LHS and you'll notice that there are hearts woven into this design. It was an experiment that turned out nicely.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting three of my fractals printed in A2 size. My dad literally did the running around for me, as "my" printer is in the city relatively close to where he works. Am super excited! These fractals will be auctioned off on the 9th of November - can't wait to see how the do.

Magenta Arc

I got bored with the plain white "icon" space so decided to try putting some windows in it. With this graphic, it works as the image is not strong enough to make icons difficult to find.

Today's Gratitude Item: The question "Why". One of my friends kept emailing me all in capitals and eventually I asked her why she did this. Turns out that, as English is not her first language, she is unsure on when to capatilise so decided that all caps was a convenient solution. She was horrified when I told her that in email, caps means shouting! She was, however grateful that I told her, and will now email in lowercase. That question "why" can be really helpful in avoiding misunderstandings :)

Cloud 9

Actually a planet somewhere out of the universe. Composed almost entirely of water.

Today's Gratitude Item: Rechargeable calculator batteries and the fact that my graphing calculator lets me know when its running low :) Its all very clever.

Pastel Diamonds

This would be a good time to remind you all that diamonds really are a girl's best friend!

Today's Gratitude Item: The latest 3D Hack version of Apophysis. Its giving some interesting / different results. If only we could all figure out how to use it to its full potential.

Colour Wheel

Dedicated to all those who have a relatively large number of icons on their desktop :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Being ready for school tomorrow. Whilst I really enjoyed the last two weeks holiday, it will be good to get back to work.

Industrial Action

The teacher union was threatening to strike last month. The strike was called off at the last minute because some kind of agreement to continue talking was reached. The image below was inspired by the threat of industrial action.

I'm not a Union member (long boring story), but I won't object to being paid more money :) One of the amusing things about this country is that they call strikes "Industrial Action". Seeing as the workers are effectively putting down their tools, shouldn't it be called "Industrial Inaction"?

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding $5.00 on today's walk! I do feel sorry for the person who dropped it, but finding the money was very exciting (and rather surreal / weird).

Woven Tiles

That "simple woven fractal" made into mosaic tiles. It was resized and then I "played". The design is certainly different. Not sure if its a "winner" though. Will have to see if it stands the test of time.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being one step closer to printing out some of my work for display. Lets just hope that when it goes to auction (at a local school show), it sells!

Simchat Torah 5768

Simachat Torah has always been one of my favourite holidays. This has a lot to do with the fact that involves two of my favourite things, dancing and food!

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Having over 1000 approved images over at Shutterstock for sale.

Forest Weave

A simple woven fractal which turned out rather well.

Today's Gratitude Item: Asparagus. I never thought that I'd say this, but they make a lovely change. You know you are finally a grown up when veggies feature on the list of things you are grateful for.

Tuesday, October 02, 2007

I still hate pink! Hence the title. Of course the image is literally "twisted" around too. As is all too often the case, the pink gradient does make the thing "pop". Insert deep sigh here.

Today's Gratitude Item: Sleeping in my own bed! Whilst dance camp was amazing, there really is no place like home.

Monday, October 01, 2007

Clover Cross

The image in the middle reminded me of a four leaf clover - hence the title.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having an amazing time at dance camp! I can't wait to do it all again next year.
