Rainy Day

Looks like a rather chic puddle to me. Ironically, as I write this, its raining outside. This one has the rare honour of being the background to my work laptop. It was a bit of a mission to center it etc so the border does not show, but it was worth it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to figure out the CD for the "listing" part of the French lessons I am responsible for. Given that I don't speak French, being able to figure out where to start / stop etc is a major achievement. Having the help of the HOD (languages) did not hurt either.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting my favourite dip on special! I use the dip to spice up "nuked" veggies and its also really good as a super quick sauce on fettuccine. Needless to say, I go through quite a bit of the stuff. Good thing its not too high in fat.

A surprise that took minimal tweaking. Its good when this happens.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting our ancient petrol lawn mower started! Once said mower is started, actually mowing the lawn is very easy.

Psychedelic Motion

Am slowly learning the "secrets" of "wire and tubes" fractals. The aim is to create something that is not so symmetrical, that its boring. This one certainly had that potential.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a lovely weekend to look forward to! For some reason, this past week has gone really slowly. Yesterday and today were particularly exhausting. Am looking forward to "recharging" over the next few days.

Pink Paper Weight

When I was a kid, I remember seeing really cool solid glass paperweights for sale at our local stationery store. I always wanted one but never really needed one. Now I have the electronic version (which does not require dusting and can't be broken).

Today's Gratitude Item: Being back at school. Its great to be working and interacting with people again after almost two and a half weeks of almost solid computer work.

Peaking

A truly abstract work which could be some kind of weird green eye. Of course it could be a bird's eye view of two strong gray guys carrying a pearl in an oblong green vase.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I live in such a beautiful city - at least, if you look in the right light. Driving to dance today was a real treat, as the sun was just setting and the city reflected the gold / orange sunlight. It was quite surreal!

ANZAC Day 2007

The background of this graphic is composed of 765 names of Kiwi soldiers who died in World War I. Their names are taken from the Common Wealth War Graves Commission website (Debt of Honour Register).

This is only a small fraction of those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom.

A Time for Peace

Here is another "Star of David" graphic, inspired by Ze'ev. He's the "ideas man". All I have to do is create the graphic.

Yom Hazikaron 5767

Yom Hazikaron commemorates both Israel's fallen soldiers and civilians murdered by acts of terror.

Most of the names on the graphic come from Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. A few of the names were given to me by members of the Israeli community here in New Zealand.

This is one of those graphics that is best viewed in its largest size where the individual names can be clearly read.

Today's Gratitude Item: That email is basically free. New Zealand post are putting up the price of snail mail (again), this time its going up from 45c to 50c from the 1st of June. That means if you have "old" 45c stamps, you will need to buy some 5c stamps so that there is sufficient postage. IMHO that is rather inconvenient. But then nothing about snail mail is convenient (deep sigh).

Could also have called this one "Fractal River at Dawn". If you stare at if for a bit, it grows on you.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to be anywhere fast. Its a good thing because with the insane traffic in this city, trying to get anywhere in a hurry is a mission impossible.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding another new book by my favourite author in the library.

Yom Hashoah 5767

Yom HaShoah is when we remember those who perished in the Holocaust.

This graphic aims to emphasise the humanity of those who died under the Nazi regime. The "number" is a reference both to the tattoos that were applied to prisoners of Auschwitz after 1941 and the "6 million who died during the Holocaust".

The words that are in colour all applied to my great grandfather at the time of his death in a concentration camp.

The arrangement of the words is random because people may use a number of different labels to describe themselves at any given time. The labels chosen will often depend on the situation / life stage of any given person.

This graphic is best viewed in large size.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my grandparents survived the Holocaust. Obviously if they had not, I would not be here today.

Was playing around with wires, tubes and the "blob" variation and came up with this.

Today's Gratitude Item: Subways just opened a store within walking distance of my house. To celebrate the event, they are running some pretty good specials. Now if only it would stop raining...

Abalone Inspiration

This textured piece mimics a Paua shell. Paua is "kiwi" for abalone, only the Paua shells found in New Zealand waters are particularly bright. These shells are highly sought after and are used to make really gorgeous jewelery.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cold days with rain. As in not feeling guilty for staying indoors and watching TV / "working" on the computer. Of course I do exercise whilst watching TV (gotta love that treadmill).

Today's Gratitude Item: This Modeling Tutorial for Blender. Am slowly working my way through it. Without this tutorial, getting the "hang" of blender would be much, much harder.

Autumn - Close Up

Appropriately created on the last day of daylight saving. It seems that for once, my computer is in sync with the rest of New Zealand and has decided to generate an appropriate graphic.

Today's Gratitude Item: The smell of fresh bread *again*. With Pesach over for another year, out house once again smells like a bakery! This is a very good thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally figuring out how to save files in blender. Also managing to create two 3D dice. Blender is a free software for creating 3D scenes. Am finding it very tough to get to grips with it but the results are quite cool - its a good thing that I'm on holiday.

Today's Gratitude Item:: That my camera was not broken! It just needed fresh batteries. Said camera behaved very strangely when I tried to turn it on resulting in a "mild" panic.

Tempus Fugit

These glass egg timers were created in POV-ray. Its been a while since I used that program but making the timers was actually quite simple.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to help out my brother instead of it being the other way round. "They" were right. It is better to give than to receive!

Choose Life

Some graphics are just screaming to be created. This was one of them. For something quite simple, it can be read on a number of levels.

Normally I don't "do" Easter but this one was too good to pass up.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being featured on a Shutterstock light box. Each month, SS runs a competition and whilst I did not win last month, one of my entries made it onto the light box. Theoretically being in a light box gives one more exposure and therefore more sales. Am interested to see if it works in this case.
