Yom HaShoah 5768

The image below was requested by Zeev. It contains the names of 1,692 victims of the Shoah. These names were found on the Yad Vashem Central Database of Shoah Victims. The boy in the image is taken from the famous Warsaw Ghetto Photograph.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: That this image is part of the Holocaust Yellow Badge in Art Exhibit which opens in Safed (Israel) today. Its the first time my work has been exhibited and I'm deeply grateful to Zeev for his amazing efforts on my behalf.

Psych Skater

As in psychedelic colours. This one is a variant of "Skate Lanes", although the "lanes" in this case look more like fiber optic cables.

Today's Gratitude Item: Chocolate muffin for breakfast - with dad in the city. Extremely decadent but very delicious and a lot of fun.

Hot Stuff on Ice

I used to skate and remember one skater who often wore a T-Shirt with the slogan "Caution: contents extremely hot". Given that she worked very hard, and literally get really hot, the T-Shirt made us all smile. This image is dedicated to her.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting over my "Apo burnout". I have a decent image rendering as I type this. Said image will feature here in a month or two.

Ice Pipes

The pipes in this fractal looked rather cold, so the ice skater was a natural addition to the piece.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to eat bread again :) Pesach is finally over. Lets just say that a week without pretzels is a long week!

Kinetic Flow

This is the final image in my "dance" series. Its sad, but all good things come to an end.

Today's Gratitude Item: New recipes. We tried something new for dinner and it worked perfectly. Sometimes it is possible to get creative in the kitchen :)

ANZAC Day 2008

The poppy fractal appeared quite some time ago and I've been saving it for today. The medal images were found on the New Zealand Defence Force webpage. More information on each medal was available over at wikipedia.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the recipe for my chocolate ice lollies wrong. I did not add enough water so said lollies were extra tasty. The downside is that they did not freeze as hard as normal - but in my view, that only adds to their charm.

Had fun with the colouring algorithm on this one. It reminds me of the nail polish that used to use before I decided that polished nails were not really worth the effort.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my stuff finally uploaded to Flickr. For some reason it was stalling / going slow tonight.

Sundance Kid

I'm really enjoying creating this series. It fuses two things that have meaning for me. Dance and fractals.

Today's Gratitude Item: New jerseys! Its that time of year again and my old stuff was rather worn out.

Purple Grace

Both the ballerina and the background are graceful. Hopefully this will find a home on a dancer's desktop.

Today's Gratitude Item: A really productive day. Managed to get quite a few things done for school. Which is good. I'm not sure that working in my "holidays" is that good, but it will make next term easier *hopefully*.

Getting Ready

One in a series of "ballet" themed wallpapers. Its a bit pink for my taste but hopefully someone "out there" will like it.

Today's Gratitude Item: A perfect Autumn day (ie: no rain). Things are definitely on the cool side though. Its too bad really. I miss summer.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is quite a popular activity here in New Zealand. Oddly, I have no desire to try it for myself.

Today's Gratitude Item: My flights to (and from) Wellington for dance camp in October are booked. Now all I need to do is book accommodation and register for the camp :)

Pesach Sameach (5768)

Pesach Sameach everyone!

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Inspiration via email. Sometimes coming up with ideas for graphics is quite a challenge, so when people suggest possible ideas, I'm always grateful.

Shadow Fighter

I like the juxtaposition of the peaceful background with the not so peaceful silhouette.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to the ferry building seconds before the skies opened. Lets just say that this morning started off fine and then the rains came!

Sun Path Warrior

Yet another Tierazon creation. Taking a break from Apo has been very nice.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my mom proof read they summary sheet that I made for my students. She found three typos which have now been fixed :) Thanks mom.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Graphic made in Tierazon :) Had quite a bit of fun with this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting to grips with InDesign. I have not used that application as much as Illustrator and was surprised how easy it was when I revisited it. Weird.

Images of war will always evoke strong emotions. Does this inspire horror, patriotism or pity?

Today's Gratitude Item: That our front door is working again. We had a slight issue with the lock - as in it was stuck and could not be opened. We're pretty sure this has something to do with the extremely wet weather we are having at the moment.

Old Man

Is this what James Bond will look like when he gets old? This would fit in well with the whole "Gold finger" thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: That despite not having as much time as we would have liked in our Algebra section, most of the students who took the topic test did reasonably well.

Dance Like Nobody's Watching

This one is for all those Israeli dancers out there!

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a book for my mom that she really wanted. The library where I volunteer on Sundays just got it in so I borrowed it for her. Very convenient.

Angel Equipment

Golden ripple effect made in Tierazon. Harp created with illustrator.

Today's Gratitude Item: Slippers which are more like boots! Autumn is here and it gets cold sitting at the computer for long periods of time. The slippers help. A lot.

Flamingo Feathers

This one is dedicated to my mom. She knows why :)

Today's Gratitude Item: That today was the last day of school for a while. We now have a lovely 3 week holiday :)

Thursday, April 10, 2008

Shadow Dawn

This one has a weird '60's feel about it. It fits firmly into the "different" category.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the last of my parent-teacher interviews have been done. Long story with a happy ending.

Ripple Frog

Background made in Tierazon. Took ages to come up with the accompanying graphic.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being given chocolate at dance group. Said chocolate was from two different people, which made me feel really special :)

Super Mop

This design reminded me of a funky kitchen floor. Of course it is important to mop the kitchen floor on a regular basis :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Being "out" on Professional Development tomorrow. They do say that change is as good as a holiday and I'm looking forward to the break in routine.

Let's Go Fly a Kite

This one is for my brother. When we were kids, he loved going to the park to fly homemade kites. They never really took off (literally) but were fun to make. Lyrics courtesy of the Mary Poppins :)

Today's Gratitude Item: A nifty little Word add-on called "equation editor" that we have at work. It makes typing in Maths equations / fractions and so forth really easy.

American Kite

One thing that was really obvious when I visited the States back in 2004 was the extreme patriotism of the American people. Everywhere I looked, I was reminded of where I was by US flags flying proudly from public buildings and private houses alike.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the trivial pursuits evening I went to tonight was really fun. Oddly, the winning team (not us) won bottles of wine and the losing team (also not us) got chocolate fish. I liked the losing team's prize better!

Feather Dawn

The background was made with Tierazon. The feathers on the side took an insanely long time to create. I think it was worth it thought.

Today's Gratitude Item: An extra hour in the day! The downside of this is that it means daylight saving is over and those lovely long evenings are over for now. Never mind. At least it won't be so dark now when I go to work on Monday morning.

Friday, April 04, 2008

Summer Dawn

Made with Tierazon for a change. Somehow the idea of recorder / flute music seems to "fit" with this image.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an enhanced sale on Shutterstock. This is a rare, and exciting event. Am hoping it becomes more common - although it would be no less exciting.

Whistle While at Work

Dedicated to all those PE teachers / Sports coaches out there!

Today's Gratitude Item: The flood of spam that arrived in my inbox yesterday was short lived. Some pond slime out there had clearly used my domain (ie: forged the from field) in their spam emails and systems from all over bounced the messages back to me. Not cool.

Pea Pods

Presenting the fractal and "regular" version.

Today's Gratitude Item: A busy, but straightforward day. Happily the classes that I relieved for all knew what they were doing and worked quietly, which let me get a fair bit of my own stuff done at the same time. I had an insane amount of said "stuff" to do and I'm glad that most of it got done.

Baby's Blanket

This baby's blanket comes complete with a bottle of milk. Dedicated to all those sleep deprived mom's out there.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to save a rather large image file in .pdf form. It was a minor mission but the thing eventually "worked".
