Snow Tracks

This one is the result of a lot of experimenting. It took far longer to create than it should have.

Snow Tracks

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That everything can wait until tomorrow. I'm far too tired to do anymore tonight!

Pesach Sameach 5770

Presenting my 5th in the "Goshen Gazette" series. Its hard to believe that I've been at this for over five years!

Oh... turns out that the "cattle" wiped out in plague #5 included cows, sheep, goats and camels - hence the references to sheep and goats on the cover. I couldn't think of any great camel gags - thus is life.

A special thanks goes to David Bishop for giving me permission to use his Gefilte Fish photo for the recipe feature.

Pesach 5770

The huge version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Freshly made charoset. Yum!

Curled Velvet

The result of experimenting with the "Spherical" variation in Apophysis.

Curled Velvet

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That we have four days left of the school term - I'm looking forward to our upcoming vacation. Knowing that holidays are just around the corner makes Sunday night slightly less depressing.

Pink Boom

Sometimes explosions can be remarkably beautiful. This is one of those times.

Pink Boom

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding my Matzos recipe from last year. Pesach is fast approaching and home made matzos is a million times better than the stuff one can buy in the store. Making it is time consuming and results in sore muscles - but its totally worth it.

Orion's Belt

Named after the constellation because this particular piece is rather sparkly.

Orion's Belt

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: My colleague over in hard technology helped me to punch some holes in cardboard for the "pop ups" we are making in geometry. The problem is that the holes need to be punched into board but a regular hole punch does not reach that far in. A tool usually used to punch holes in aluminum and a hammer were all that was needed to do the job.

Sphere Jewel

Was particularly pleased with how this one turned out - it took forever to find a gradient that "worked".

Sphere Jewel

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That word has a "compress" option for images that makes them smaller and thus makes it easier to convert word documents into .pdf files. I wish those emailing large word documents would learn how to use that feature.

Diamond Drop

If you look closely at the droplet, you'll see the diamond shape.

Diamond Drop

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having three new people at dance. We've been trying to grow our group and our advertising efforts appear to have bourne fruit. Lets hope our new dancers come back for more of the same next week.

Flower Ride

This one is based on the "Fear Fall" ride at Rainbow's End. The fractal version is a lot less scary (its prettier too).

Flower Ride

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my boss (ie: the HOF Science at school) is using my Unit Plans to teach his 7th grade class. I overheard him showing one of the plans to parents at interviews tonight which made me very happy. I'd have been even happier if I'd heard him giving me the credit for creating the plan (they take hours to make). Still I do get paid a bit extra for this so its all good.

Checkered Cloth

This was easier to make than one might think.

Checkered Cloth

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of my students sent through a you-tube guide on how to make Halo 3 based Machinima. I'll need to know how to do this in Term 3 for my IT class. Turns out the language is a bit dodgy but at least I have an understanding of how this technology works - sort of.

Rising Ring

This one is based on the parameters from "Obscure or Obvious".

Rising Ring

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally get caught up on missed sleep. It never fails to amaze me how being tired can affect everything to such a large degree.

Obscure or Obvious?

What do you see?

Obscure or Obvious?

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding out that holding the key down whilst using the eraser tool in Illustrator will delete a selected area. This simple tip makes life a lot easier.

Butterfly Coin

The quotation was really lucky - as this looks like both a flower and a butterfly.

Butterfly Coin

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cotton buds. They are really great for accessing tight spots and I think its time I used some on my keyboard!

Sky Ride

Presenting another graphic based on photos taken at Rainbows End. Of course their rides don't have my signature on the front - but nothing's perfect.

Sky Ride

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Surviving parent / teacher interviews - my voice lasted the distance which was something of a relief. Hopefully my cold will be completely gone in the very near future.

Sphere Storm

The clipart is based on photographs taken at Rainbow's End on a Science / Physics trip. Those two were certainly having a lot of fun.

Sphere Storm

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the side mirrors in my car automatically fix themselves if they have been bumped back. Having mirrors get bumped back is one of the occupational hazards of parking at a school as kids tend to walk between parked cars without paying too much attention and sometimes they push the mirrors back as they go past.

Figure Orbit

This one's a bit different but I like it.

Figure Orbit

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Vaseline (aka petroleum jelly). I've got the traditional change of season cold and having vaseline on my nose prevents it from being more red and sore than necessary. The cold is not too bad - the only problem is my voice sounds very weird. This could make parent-teacher interviews on Thursday night "interesting".

Filigree Sea

Getting the fern like / waves was a nice surprise.

Filigree Sea

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Programming "my" robot at school so that it detects the edge of a desk, moves backwards and turns around (rather than continuing to go forward and falling off said desk). I really wish that I'd played with Lego as a kid! Even better, I get to bring one of the robots home tomorrow to practice some more. My students do robotics next term and I need to be ready!

Ocean Ribbons

This one was surprisingly simple to make - its great when that happens.

Ocean Ribbons

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Paying $5.00 for my favourite cereal (compared with the regular price of $6.50)

Infinite Sphere

Its actually a golf ball on steroids.

Infinite Sphere

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my HOF emailed through the mark scheme for the test my students did on Friday. This means being able to mark said tests tomorrow which means less stress next week. Here's hoping my students did well.

Discotech

The background reminded me of those sixty's disco balls - but with a technical twist, hence the title.

Discotech

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a tiny sewing kit in my bag. On our Physics trip to Rainbow's End one our students won this massive stuffed animal. Only problem was that said animal was over stuffed / not that well made and it sprung a leak. Said sewing kit allowed for a quick and easy repair (and a happy student).

Frosty

Its been a while since my last Incendia piece. The problem is that they take too long to render. This one was over 26 hours in the making - it rendered over Shabbat!

Frosty

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having the presence of mind to grab my water bottle and morning tea as the fire alarm was going off at school. I think it was a drill but it could have been a false alarm - either way, there is no point being hungry and thirsty when on an enforced break. Given that I was sitting at my desk when said alarm sounded, grabbing food and water did not delay my exit in any way.

Ring Joins

The pattern is being held together by fractal rings

Ring Joins

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having an "easy" day tomorrow. Here's hoping that the dance group I'm trying to get started at school "takes off". Of course if it does not, I can always reclaim my Thursday afternoons - right now, its a win-win situation for me.

Floral Dawn

This one worked better than expected. Its good when that happens.

Floral Dawn

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Roasted pine-nuts. They made a rather good sandwich great.

Monday, March 08, 2010

Candyland

As in the red and white stripes reminded me of a traditional candy cane. Of course that's the only thing about this image that is traditional

Candyland

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That parent-teacher interviews don't interfere with my regular dance class. Unfortunately they do interfere with the class that I'm trying to establish at school but some things cannot be helped.

Marble Floor

The floor is made, at least in part, from marbles!

Marble Floor

Today's Gratitude Item: That the coming week is not quite as busy as last week.

Access Cover

Loved the quote :) It would be worse if the access cover looked like this though.

Access Cover

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to get the bulk of a unit I was planning done on Friday. These units are time consuming but fun to create and this one will be needed in the not too distant future.

Recycled

The sphere is one of my previous flames with a final transform - hence the title. This one "works" as a desktop if the trash icon is placed at the bottom LHS

Recycled

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: It turns out that my students all have a WYSIWYG html editor on their laptops so creating their webpages won't be as nightmarish as originally feared. Its a long story but it appears that a happy ending may be possible.

Black Holes

Sometimes unexpected fractals work out the best.

Black Holes

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting Mathletics set up for all of my sixth graders. They enjoy using this learning tool and it should help them to develop some really sound skills.

Tuesday, March 02, 2010

Rollercoaster

The roller coaster is based on a reference photo taken way back in March last year when we took our students to a local amusement park as part of their unit on Physics. Turns out that we'll do just about anything to make Physics fun :)

Rollercoaster

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to dance three times this week. The only problem is that whilst dancing is my favourite thing to do, it can get rather exhausting.

Mechanical Oyster

I wonder how much this particular pearl would be worth.

Mechanical Oyster

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that a meeting I thought was happening tomorrow is in reality scheduled for next Tuesday. This means having time to catch up on my "to do" list which is depressingly long.
