Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting to see a Brown Teal. This is an endangered duck that is found only on offshore islands like Tiritiri Matangi. I've been to Tiri three times before and mentioned to one of the volunteers on the ferry over that my goal was to see said duck. She organised an excursion which was slightly off the beaten track to allow this to happen. Most visitors don't get to see that part of the Island so it was really special. My one student has to do an assessment on this particular bird (each student got a different species), so she got to come and see it too with a few of her friends.
I was rather surprised with how this one turned out - and I'm not sure that's a good thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: That two of my favourite people are enjoying one of my favourite cities. The only downside is that I can't enjoy said city with them (school commitments).

Today's Gratitude Item: That my students seemed to enjoy working on the multiplication resource that I spent a lot of time creating on Sunday. It probably helped that said resource featured a number of games for them to play / practice their multiplication facts.

I was not going to create anything this year but then my father bought me a poppy and rather than pinning it on my T-Shirt, I put it on my hat instead. After that, it was a short step to making this image. As is so often the case, the tag line "Creations to Remember" is ambiguous.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having tomorrow all to myself to get ready for school on Monday. I don't have that much to do but it will be good to get organised.

Today's Gratitude Item: My dad bought me an ANZAC day poppy on our walk this morning. Said poppy turned out to be rather inspirational - the image will feature here tomorrow night. So I'm grateful both for the poppy and the inspiration. What can I say? Its been a good day today.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my shul finally featured one of my graphics in their electronic newsletter. They did not attribute* it or make it nearly large enough, but its a start.
*Attribution for that particular image is not required, but it would have been nice. Said graphic will appear on this blog for Shavuot. If you can't wait that long, take a sneak peak.

Today's Gratitude Item: A visiting dancer. Its always nice when we have visitors to dance class from overseas - especially when said visitor is an amazing dancer. One of the fantastic things about Israeli dance is that you can go pretty much any where in the world, find a dance group and get an instant circle of friends (and a great work out).

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to program "shoe bot"* so that he wondered around the kitchen without bumping into the walls / cupboards.
*Shoe bot is the Lego robot that I have on loan from school. It was necessary to program him as we will be doing robotics starting on Monday. The robot got his name from the fact that he currently lives in an old shoe box.
Just a gentle reminder that sometimes the minority happen to be correct.

Today's Gratitude Item: Still being on holiday. The state schools went back today but we get another week which is lovely. Almost felt sorry for those who did have to return to school / work today.
This one took a while to create. Huge thanks to Zeev who deciphered the Hebrew under the "we don't wait for you if you're late" notice so that I could recreate it. Credit also goes to flickr user boeing752 who photographed his El Al boarding pass and then posted the image online.

Today's Gratitude Item: The word randomiser tool that comes as part of the software we use with our whiteboards. It will make assigning topics for an upcoming assessment really easy. I've set it up so that one randomiser selects the student's name and the second selects their topic. The "no repeat" function ensures that no-one will get selected twice. At least this way, no one will be able to complain that "its not fair"!
The main image is the Israeli Defence Force Logo. In many places it is customary to put stones on a graveside when visiting - hence the "stones" reference.

Today's Gratitude Item: Remembering to take an earlier off-ramp when returning home from dance today - this meant avoiding roadworks and saving time :)

Today's Gratitude Item: My annual check-up at the dentist was uneventful. I really don't like going to the dentist and it was something of a relief to get a clean bill of *dental* health.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finishing marking my student's webpages. It took forever and I'm really glad that job is done.
The shapes *sort of* remind me of the Mandlebrot set, made out of springs, hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning a whole lot of cool things about my electronic whiteboard. Today was the first part of a two-day conference and I did not think that I'd learn that much - boy was I wrong! The tips / tricks we saw today were extremely cool. Its *almost* enough to make me look forward to going back to school.
Presenting another in a series which has run for a while. As before, the names are taken from the Yad Vashem Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names. The names in this image are a small fraction of those who perished in Auschwitz in 1941.
Note that the names on the Yellow Badge are not "recycled" from previous images - even though the shape is the same.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my pizza bases worked (for the most part). They are still too thin in the middle but with practice I'll get better at making them. The nice thing about being on vacation is having time to cook / play in the kitchen.

Today's Gratitude Item: A great little site called Seek Logo. It has a massive number of corporate and government logos available in vector format which has saved me loads of time as it means not having to recreate logos from scratch.

Today's Gratitude Item: That all my students remembered the nets for the various Platonic solids. This could be the first time in my teaching career where everyone has "got" a particular concept the first time round. Of course the question could have been too easy ...

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an extra hours sleep :) Daylight saving has finally ended and it will be wonderful not having to get up in the dark - at least until the worst of winter hits.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning a new dance :) Turns out that the dance group that meet on Friday afternoons dance every week - even on public holidays. I'll be dancing with them for the next three weeks as I'm on holiday. Whilst the group is a 45 minute drive from where I live, its worth it.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my 6th graders are not that great at reading carefully. We gave them a test today and the mark scheme (ie: answers) were inadvertently stapled to the back of each paper. I'm not sure whether to be relieved or horrified that none of them appeared to notice! Lets just say that's the last time I accept a bunch of photocopied tests from a colleague without carefully checking them first. Of course this does answer a question I've had for a while. Would they do any better if we gave them the answers with the test? Apparently the answer to that question is a resounding "no". I wish I was kidding about this but I'm not.
