Ice Hearts

I've had the clip-art for a while and finally created a background that "works".

Ice Hearts

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my 9th grade IT students get to hold on to their computers for a little while longer. This is a good thing as without laptops, it would be very difficult for us to do meaningful work.

A Thing of Beauty

Dedicated to all those Torah scholars out there.

Today's Gratitude Item: That today was my very last cafeteria duty! I'm so happy :)

Green Square

This one could be an aerial view of a landscaped park - complete with paths and bushes.

Green Square

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the weather was perfect for doing the 10km Hadassah walk. It was overcast and not too hot - which was exactly what we needed. I will definitely do the walk again next year as it was loads of fun and was a great opportunity to network and catch up with people.

Beautiful Mystery

Lets just say this one has a fair bit of depth to it.

Beautiful Mystery

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Relief from the heat. It was rather warm today which meant feeling tired and drinking a lot of water - happily its cooler now and I'm happily working away. It turns out that I really love working late at night when everyone else is sleeping - one can get so much done with no interruptions :)

Can You?

Loved the quotation. I think I need to repeat this for my Math students - often! Those that think they can't do it tend to give up without even trying. Like so much in life, Math is as much about attitude as ability.

Can You?

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: My colleagues in the Science faculty invited me to morning tea and gave me a beautiful card and $50 gift card for one of my favourite bookstores (it was a farewell gift). Guess who is feeling very loved and very happy :)

True North

This one is the result of the 7x version of Apophysis (discovered yesterday), a handy tutorial and judicious use of PSP tools.

True North

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Fudge :) As in the small parcels of fudge that found its way into each staff member's pigeon hole at school. It was a sweet gesture from the parents prayer group. This is a group of school parents who pray for the staff and, on occasion put food in our pigeon holes. How cool is that!

Unnecessary Art

The question is, which bits of this image are "unnecessary".

Unnecessary Art

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Most of my students have handed in their permission forms for an upcoming field trip. Its been quite a mission to get all the forms in as students have been away for various reasons and just catching up with them has been a massive challenge. Thankfully they generally check their email and my "no slip, no trip" message is slowly getting through.

Purple Madness

Some days just go like that.

Purple Madness

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a full time permanent position starting in February next year. My current contract finishes at the end of the year and the school I am with indicated some time ago that they would not be able to employ me (role issues). Finally finding something suitable is cause for huge celebration - guess whose looking very forward to the new job in the new year :)

Creative Destruction

If its spiky and it gets thrown, bad things could happen! On the other hand, it is rather pretty.

Creative Destruction

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: "Tart" strawberries. We had some after dinner tonight and whilst everyone else thought said fruit was not sweet enough - I really enjoyed them (normally strawberries are not my thing - but sour is great!)

See the light?

This one is a Menorah (rather than a Chunnukia) - which means its good for all year round!

See the Light?

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that clicking on an event on a google calender and hitting the delete key will get rid of it (no extra mouse clicks required). The only downside is that I had a huge number of events to get rid of and there is not way to get google to automatically delete them.

Soul Dust

I saw this quotation outside a local art gallery and thought it would look good on a fractal. The font was a chance occurrence. I was going for "Monotype Corsiva" and hit "Mistral" instead.

Soul Dust

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to create small pink bows like the ones you can get at the $2.00 store. Its much cheaper to buy them, but they are not always available and its impossible to get them in a pretty shade of pink. Turns out they were fun and easy to make.

Suspense

In that moment before a winner is announced, suspense builds up until it is bursting to come out.

Suspense

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Only three weeks of school left! I'm really looking forward to the summer vacation.

Patience

This one took a while to create - hence the quotation.

Patience

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Remembering how to make cool origami boxes from last year. I managed to misplace the instructions and had to unfold a box from last year to work out how it was folded. Happily this strategy worked, even though it was not particularly easy to do.

Harvest Wheel

Sometimes with fractals its a matter of luck. So do you feel lucky?

Harvest Wheel

Today's Gratitude Item: Having another job interview today. I can't say anything about the outcome until Friday but it was a really good experience.

Organised

Being organised can be a beautiful thing :)

Organised

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having the music from a new dance playing in my head. Its a good thing because the piece of music is rather pleasant and I "got" the dance this time round. The fact that one of my group was able to teach it is a huge bonus as my memory of this particular routine from camp was non-existent.

Buldging

It took forever to find the perfect gradient, but eventually patience paid off.

Buldging

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That our amazing lab techs remembered me talking about how I meant to order two circular magnets set up on a stick so that the one "levitated" and they magically supplied the gear without me putting in a formal order. I really love these ladies!

Learn, Live, Hope

This one turned out a lot better than expected - which is always a good thing.

Learn, Live, Hope

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having completed the first draft of my final reports for this year. This is always a time consuming chore and it feels really great to have it out of the way.

Impossible Starfish

Which was almost impossible to make! As is so often the case with Incendia, the image looks much better from a distance.

Impossible Star Fish

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Both baking and small sewing tasks worked well. Sometimes doing the "domestic" thing can be deeply satisfying. I wonder why that is...

Uncontained

This one is bulging with something - I don't know what though.

Uncontained

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being invited to interview with a top Auckland school for a job for next year. I currently teach at one of the top schools but due to a drop in the role, at this point the can't renew my contract which means I'm "looking". Said interview is on Monday and I'm very excited about it.

Twisted Thoughts

The quote was featured as the "Quote of the Day" when I looked at my igoogle page. It seemed to go with the image.

Twisted Thoughts

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of my students was so inspired by his kenken homework that he visited the official website, completed a 9 x 9 puzzle, took a screen shot and emailed it to me. This is especially impressive given that said student is roughly 11 years old. Needless to say the actual homework was an "easy" 5 x 5 puzzle aimed reviewing the factors work we did in class.

Green Planet

The quotation made me smile.

Green Planet

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my dad's colonoscopy came back clear (was incredibly worried about this - long story) and that I have a "pre-interview" for a job for next year tomorrow. I've been looking for "something" for next year and until this morning, had been sending out applications left, right and center with no joy. I reworked my CV and decided to road test it late last week. Within 24 hours of sending the CV through, I got a call. This is just another step in what is turning out to be a lengthy journey but its further than I was before and I'm both grateful and hopeful at the same time.

Green Morning

This one turned out much better than expected.

Green Morning

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Scoring in the 96th percentile (top 4%) on the Illustrator CS3 test over at Elance. Now all I need is to get some assignments / work. Here's hoping ...

Singapore

This one is the result of a request. Its dedicated to all those Singaporeans out there :)

Singapore

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Scoring in the top 10% *just* on the Elance MS Word 2007 test. You can see my profile (and hire me for your next project) over at Elance.com. The funny thing is that I don't use Word 2007 - I use Word 2003. I guess the applications have enough in common that it is not a problem.

Dragon Moon

Named because it looks like a full moon and the pattern is the result of the Mobius Dragon variation in Fractal Science Kit.

Dragon Moon

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Networking opportunities. It turns out that I'm looking for work for next year (long story). Happily volunteering at the library proved to be a good networking opportunity. Lets just say that "who" one knows is often more important than "what" one knows. Right now, I'm optimistic about finding "something" for next year which is a lot better than the frustration that has coloured the last month or so. Here's hoping for success...

Tropical Trouble

As in, when a cyclone comes near a beach in the tropics, the results are often messy.

Tropical Trouble

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Someone "out there" saw my work on flickr and was nice enough to email and ask my permission to get it printed. The Internet can be a great place, especially when people are polite and choose to do the right thing.

Corn Rise

As is so often the case, this one took a very long time to render. Happily the resulting image did not disappoint.

Cornrise

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A caffeine high. I was so tired this morning that instead of pushing the "hot chocolate" button on the coffee machine at school, I hit the "mocha" button instead. At this point I assumed that if I was tired enough to hit the wrong button, then caffeine was needed. The "kick" had me buzzing for the first two periods of the day.

Tiled Corn

This one involved a lot of post processing. I took the "Cornrise" image and created a pattern with it. Then the pattern was tiled and finally the wallpaper was created. The top and bottom stripes are icon space :)

Tiled Corn

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to get my Science lessons for the next two weeks planned. I've put in orders for all the gear we will need and I know exactly what we are going to do each session. This means just being able to get on with the job and having our awesome lab techs love me because I'm organised. The bonus is that the plan is reasonably flexible so if the unexpected happens, it will not be thrown into chaos.

Change Signal

Sometimes changes in life are heralded with stars / bright flashes.

Change Signal

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting Kodu Game labs installed on my computer (and my student's machines) at school. This means we can continue with our software development topic and the students can start to make some more sophisticated games which require basic programming skills.

Swirl Central

These fractals take a while to render but I'm enjoying creating them.

Swirl Central

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Requests from the Auckland Libraries are now free. That means not having to pay $1.00 every time I request a book. Given that reading is a favourite hobby and borrowing from the library is the main way that I acquire books, this has made me very happy. The library also appears to offer e-books which can be downloaded and automatically disappear from the reader device once they expire. This is another exciting development and even though I don't have a suitable reader device, its something that could be useful in the future.

Making Waves

Zeev asked me to make a ripple in the shape of a Star of David. Here is the result. I'm not sure the star inside is strong enough, but anything more would have looked very odd. The only way this was possible was thanks to this tutorial on how to make a ripple. It was especially useful for creating the water droplets.

Making Waves

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having a meeting this afternoon. Getting away from school early is always good. Especially as I tend to arrive too early and am, after all, a part timer.
