Inside Out

Today's Gratitude Item: Trying a variation on an "old" bread recipe - said variation worked like a treat and now the whole house smells like freshly baked bread. I never get tired of that particular smell :)

Aeon Web

Named because it took ages to get this one right. In the end, I got the double strands by duplicating the original fractal and then shifting it over a bit.

Today's Gratitude Item: That three of the seven books I ordered from the library have arrived. Its nice to have free reading material on demand :) I'm loving the fact that since the councils merged, there is no fee for requesting books.

Crazy Wire Flower

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally got around to marking my 9th graders' Graphs tests and no-one failed! A couple came close but everyone "got it" (or at least got enough questions right to get through). To be fair, they are a top group so I was expecting greatness. It is nice when they deliver though.

Today's Gratitude Item: White fillings. Whilst having cavities (or in my case, a single cavity) filled is not exactly fun, at least these days they can match the filling colour to one's teeth and one does not end up with a mouth full of metal.

Kosher Dreams

I know that dream catchers are an American Indian "thing" but wouldn't it be cool if there was a Jewish version? I can see it now - kosher dreams guaranteed.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to consume bread again - lets just say, tomorrow I will bake!

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that its been raining all day and I have not needed to go out for anything :) Rain is a wonderful thing when one is safe and dry indoors. Having a clothes dryer to expedite laundry and not needing to hang out the washing in this type of weather is an added bonus.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having the time to read two novels in as many days. Love the fact that the library was open yesterday and that I managed to find "new" (as in new to me) books from some of my favourite authors.

Ring Reinforcement

Anyone remember those sticky plastic / paper ring reinforcements we used to painstakingly stick onto hole punched documents to prevent them ripping once filed? This image reminded me of those.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that it is possible to overlay a grid on top of a fractal in Apophysis so that the rule of thirds can easily be followed. Very nifty!

String Windmill

This one turned out far better than expected. Its probably too busy for most but it makes me happy. It reminds me of those toy windmills we used to play with as kids (the ones on a stick where you blew on them to make them turn).

Today's Gratitude Item: That my mom found (and kept) a pizza flier from a local store as she knew that I would be able to use it as a basis for one of my "Chag" images. Lets just say that said flier was extremely useful. Said image is close to completion and will feature on this blog in due course.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning how to make modelling chocolate. Well, sort of learning - It turns out that if you add corn syrup to chocolate in the correct proportions, it becomes a bit like clay on cooling and can, theoretically be moulded into a range of shapes. According to the internet, if one does not have corn syrup, then golden syrup can be used in its place. Seen as I did not have any golden syrup handy, used honey instead and used the modelling chocolate I made to decorate some chocolate cup-cakes. It worked but my "clay" got soft too easily and then tended to stick a fair bit. Now would probably be a good time to scour youtube in the hope of finding a demonstration.

Knitted Ribbon

This one reminds me of a design on a rather "dated" jumper.

The hieroglyphics are from the hieroglyphics unicode chart. The theatre faces are a modified version of this image found over at wikimedia commons.

Oh... and according to the sacred-texts site, the eye hieroglyphic in the middle of the page means "weeping".

Today's Gratitude Item: Having home made matzos to eat :) Have been avoiding the temptation of eating it early and can't wait for Pesach to start. I know the festival is about more than matzos but after slaving away making the stuff, it will be wonderful to indulge.

Today's Gratitude Item: Sleeping late, finding $1.40 on my walk and having time to just relax. Its nice not being under pressure to get stuff done.

Today's Gratitude Item: Nothing beats the "just started my holiday" feeling. Successfully bribing my students so that they worked hard on the last day of term was an added bonus. Even better is the fact that my Head of learning wanted to see me about an assessment that I'm in the process of putting together but he did not want to interrupt my classes because they were working so well :)

Cathedral Arch

Lets just say that the final colours of this one were something of a surprise. It reminds me of what the ceiling of a cathedral could look like (if those who built cathedrals were into fractals).

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that shifting stuff around on google calendars is not as tedious as originally feared. Whilst it would be great to have a way of inserting an extra day in a school time-table situation, manually shifting stuff did not take as long as I thought it would. It was much quicker than any other available options.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning how to "transpose" data in Excel. Ever had data in columns when you really wanted it to be in rows (or vice versa)? Turns out in Excel's "Paste Special" menu, there is the option to transpose data to make this happen. Gotta love google for making it so easy to find the answer.

Ocean Prison

Its almost as if there is an image behind the "bars" in the foreground of this one. Got lucky with the colouring.

Today's Gratitude Item: For the first time in months, an entire batch of fractals was accepted on Shutterstock. I'm hoping that its a reversal of their previous policy but fear that the reviewer was just being kind.

Diamond Desktop

Its been too long since I made a "serious" desktop. This one has space for icons and is neatly divided into sections to make organising easier.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my students "got" basic differentiation. They were surprised at how easy it was to apply the rule! Some of them were really excited as they did not struggle with the concept (they usually find things a lot harder) - they kept asking "is that all?" :)

Coiled Sun

This one was fun to make. I'm thinking that orange might be one of my favourite colours at the moment.

Today's Gratitude Item: No left overs :) Its great when one's miniature cup cakes are so popular that there are none left. In retrospect, I probably should have made more than two dozen. The "pi" symbols were a great hit with the Maths crowd and they all enjoyed the visual pun.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to pipe chocolate into "pi" symbols for placing on miniature cup-cakes. This has opened up a world of possibilities :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally being able to give my senior students the results from their Internal assessment. They have all been really anxious about this as it "counts" for credits. Happily, most students passed and those who did not get it this time around will have another go next term. Needless to say, most were pleased with their results.

Forgive and Forget?

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to fill up my car because someone else did it for me :) Its one less thing which needs to be done and at this point, every little bit helps.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cooler weather. For the first time this year needed a jumper at school and hardly sweated at all in dance class! Its amazing how much difference the change in weather has made.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not getting drenched! I returned to my classroom after doing my bit for cross country and 5 mins later the heavens opened. Lets just say that the vast majority of my students were not so fortunate.

Today's Gratitude Item: Only having to spend two and a half hours volunteering at the library instead of four. Basically went in to cover a stack of books and then went home when I was done. Having the extra time to prepare for tomorrow was really useful.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an extra hours sleep :) Its sad when summer is officially over and daylight saving ends, but the extra hour of sleep *almost* makes up for it.

Today's Gratitude Item: The Khan Academy website. It has an impressive range of mathematics related videos and practice exercises so when parents ask how they can help their kids learn maths, the answer has just gotten even easier.
