Many Eyes

If you look at the "petals" on this one, you'll see eyes looking back at you.

Today's Gratitude Item: That daylight saving has ended. Unlike some, I love everything about daylight saving. Having that "extra" hour of daylight in the evenings is wonderful as it lets me get in a good long walk after school. Having said that, getting up whilst it's still dark is not all that much fun so I'm glad that things are back to "normal".

Folded Rose

This one was a nice surprise. The braid on the LHS is just icing on the cake.

Today's Gratitude Item: No leftovers. As in the buns I made and brought to morning tea disappeared quite quickly which was great.

Thursday, March 29, 2012

As in a mixture of ripples and a propeller.

Today's Gratitude Item: Both my rainbow coloured umbrella and my not so interesting beige umbrella photographs were accepted over at Shutterstock. I was not expecting my photos to be accepted for a variety of reasons but am really glad that they made it through.

Black Hole

Simple but effective? Or just simple?? You be the judge.

Today's Gratitude Item: That this year's "post Purim spice buns" (basically hot cross buns with a star of David instead of the traditional cross) were more successful than last year's efforts. I used a completely different recipe and whilst they were nightmarish to make, they taste good and the feedback was really positive and encouraging.

Dark Sun

This one is for "those days" when nothing seems to go right. My "those days" be few and far between.

Today's Gratitude Item: That most things today went reasonably well.

Rose Tapestry

Liked the intricacy of this one, even if it is similar to previous works.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the internet at school is finally working again. It's been broken for the last two days but it appears that the issue has been resolved. I'm hoping the solution "sticks". With all my planning on line and my students relying on the Internet for quick and easy access to answers / tutorials, not having the resource was deeply frustrating. Suffice it to say that by the end of the day someone was really, really grumpy.

Flamingo Paving

The colours reminded me of flamingo feathers, bricks were reminiscent of a fancy paving design.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the "give way" rules have finally been changed to match the rest of the world. We had this one insane rule which was supposed to improve traffic flow (but didn't). All it did was cause accidents. This has finally been changed meaning that tourists will find New Zealand a slightly safer place to drive.

Dawn Gull

the reference photo for the clipart was taken early in the morning on my camera phone. I noticed a seagull on a nearby light and couldn't resist taking the shot.

Today's Gratitude Item: Acquiring a rainbow coloured umbrella. Whilst rainbow coloured umbrellas may be clich├ęd, this particular 'brolly' should withstand the wind and it makes me very happy.

Sunflower Spiral

This one is a sunflower made out of bricks. The braid on the RHS is from the same original fractal.

Today's Gratitude Item: That this is my 2,500th post on this blog. Reaching big milestones is a good thing.

Summer Sphere

For some reason, this one makes me happy. Perhaps its all the flowers.

Today's Gratitude Item: That Gimp let's one save images as .ico files - no plugins required.

Lazy Summer

Complete with a kayak.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that our text books for Visual Basic have CD’s in the back which will let kids install the software on their computers if they have not downloaded it.

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Kayaker's Dream

This one has waves and a kayak all ready to go.

Today's Gratitude Item: That tomorrow won't be quite as hectic as today. The busyness is mostly positive but it can be really draining.

Monday, March 19, 2012

Structured Metal

This one is the result of a fair bit of experimenting.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to and from work without needing to call the Automobile Association! I was not driving but my car pool buddy's car was not working quite right. Let's just say that it didn't want to go up hills meaning that progress at times was slow. Suffice it to say, I'll be doing the driving tomorrow and my buddy's car is going back to the garage for more "work". Here's hoping it gets fixed soon.

Solar Stairs

Tried a new variation on this one. The results are pleasing enough but the variation in question is pretty limited in what it does.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally having time to create a few fractals. Suffice it to say, life has been far too hectic in recent weeks.

Saturday, March 17, 2012

Ornate Decoration

This one could either be a flower or a really over the top serving platter.

Today's Gratitude Item: That tomorrow is a "free" Sunday. It's the first time in several weeks where I don't have to go "out" for several hours meaning that hopefully I'll have time to do some urgently needed work.

Cabbage Patch - 60's Style

If you look closely, you'll see the cabbages nestled in neat rows.

Today's Gratitude Item: Chocolate cake at morning tea. It was really, really good :) These little things matter.

Thursday, March 15, 2012

This one is almost good enough to eat.

Today's Gratitude Item: Parent / Teacher interviews last night went well and the weekend is almost here. As usual, I'm exhausted and looking forward to some time out. How do other people manage??

Grid Lock

Featuring Auckland's sky tower. Finally had a chance to transform a photo I took ages ago into clip-art. Said photo was taken on my camera phone whilst waiting for a bus in the city.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a good appraisal / observation. My head of department is really encouraging and the observation went smoothly.

Tuesday, March 13, 2012

This one started off as a single large multi-coloured triangle. Was extremely pleased with the result.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a system restore fixed the problem with my graphics tablet. For some reason when I turned on my machine today, the driver decided to stop working which was "unexpected". It might be time to start thinking about buying a new tablet. My current one is relatively old and it does not play all that well with my newer PC. I looked at the wacom site and they have some very nice multi-touch "use your fingers if you want to" type tablets which are, of course completely wireless. At the end, I needed a towel to mop up the drool.

Fragile Stars

Sometimes the things that are the most beautiful, are the most fragile.

Today's Gratitude Item: A colleague who walks by my room on the way to Monday morning briefing and reminds me to tag along. I have been known to lose track of time and miss said meeting so having a human reminder is really useful.

Sunday, March 11, 2012

Sphere Delight

As is often the case, this one would make a great bead / piece of jewellery if it were real rather than digital.

Today's Gratitude Item: That today's dance workshop went really well. I was pleasantly surprised by the large turn out and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves. Today was a Sunday well spent.

Saturday, March 10, 2012

Or should that be "some holes". This one is a variant on an old theme.

Today's Gratitude Item: That setting up a play list for tomorrow's dance workshop did not take as long as anticipated.

Friday, March 09, 2012

Some Stars

Not so sure about this one, but if you look closely, you'll see a bunch of stars.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally figuring out how to get the Python interpreter to run on my machine so that I can test programs for the course that I'm doing. Most of the "programs" are really short but it's nice to be able to write material (and test it) on my machine. Sometimes the internet interpreter used by the course plays up - mainly because so many people are using it at the same time.

Itchy Spike

This spiral is rather spiky. Not sure if it was worth the effort.

Today's Gratitude Item: Had two queries from people wanting to use images that I've created. It's nice when people like the work enough to want to use it and it's really nice when they ask for permission.

Purim 5772

Presenting my Purim image for 5772. Needless to say, I think it would make life a lot easier if this machine actually existed.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a pretty good "catch up" day. It helped that my duty was covered by a reliever. Now if only there were a few more hours in the day ...

Tuesday, March 06, 2012

Barred Way

The title of this one is purposely ambiguous.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting almost instantaneous help at the Udacity Forums for a weird problem that I was having.

Monday, March 05, 2012

Oil on Water

When I was a kid, we used to make really cool patterns by floating oil paints on water and then putting a layer of paper on the top which would then absorb the paint. This design reminded me of that.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the new duty roster is not yet 'out'. If it was, it would have meant having duty today. Instead I got to enjoy my morning tea and lunch without having to worry about going on duty.

Sunday, March 04, 2012

Dusky Star

As in this one is a star with similar colours to when the sunsets.

Today's Gratitude Item: A rather special image that I was working on turned out better than expected. Said image will, of course feature in this blog in due course.

Saturday, March 03, 2012

Sea Curtin

For some reason this one reminds me of curtain fabric. Am not sure why that is.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being unaffected by the wild weather that we all experienced today. It rained quite hard at times and was really windy so a day indoors was required.

Friday, March 02, 2012

Small Wind

If one could visualise a little bit of wind, this is what it might look like. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the invitations I designed for our principal's farewell were well received. The fractal background printed beautifully and it was nice to see my work in hard copy instead of on screen.

Thursday, March 01, 2012

Soul Splash

If you look really closely, you might see a metallic star of David in this one. If its not immediately apparent, try squinting.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the practical assessment with my "big" computer class went off without a hitch. I still have some students to assess as they were away but the bulk of the work is done which is good.
