Diamonds in Flood

Definitely 'weird'. Not sure if it qualifies as 'wonderful'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Teaching my final Video Conference (VC) lesson for 2013. Whilst I will miss seeing my VC students, it's nice to have made it to the end of the year and successfully delivered an on-line / distance course.

Bored Game

It's like chess, only the board is more interesting.

Today's Gratitude Item: That for better or for worse, my senior Information Technology students are 'done'. They hand in their final piece of work tomorrow morning. Best of all, I don't have to grade it as it is an external that gets sent away for marking.

Volcanic Pearls

If pearls were made in volcanoes (rather than oysters), this is what the process would look like.

Today's Gratitude Item: That every so often buyers see my artwork on Shutterstock, and then commission an original / exclusive piece. Prompt payment for said artwork is generally cause for celebration.

Not Quite...

Noughts and crosses - but close.

Today's Gratitude Item: Revisiting Context Free Design Grammar and finding out how to render images with a transparent background.

Wonky Tile Mosaic

This is the reason you want to make sure that the guy tiling your kitchen / bathroom is 100% sober.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to get apps I created onto my rather basic phone. Turns out that I had to download a file manager app as part of the process!

Diamond Path

With added pearls for no extra charge.

Today's Gratitude Item: A super relaxing day - having Monday off is an added bonus and has lead to a truly "stress free" weekend. The glorious weather helped make today perfect.

Fancy Feathers

The appearance of this one was a very pleasant surprise

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting confirmation that after December the 1st, all students at our school will be allowed to install professional versions of MS Office 2013 on up to 5 of their devices. This makes a big difference to me as it means more students will be able to do my course as they don't need to buy expensive software to do the work.

Unsteady Path

Don't try and navigate this one when drunk / tired.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my colleagues (in other schools) found my Usability Posters helpful. I posted the link on our subject association listserv and was surprised by how many people took the time to say 'thanks'. A number of my colleagues have already printed the posters out and are now using them with their classes.

Curved Checkers

Looks simple? Was extra-ordinarily complicated to make.

Today's Gratitude Item: Tall students who don't mind putting up posters for me. I managed to finish a series of posters on Usability and needed to display them. Being both short and short of time, I got one of my students to do the hard work for me.

Flowing String?

Looks complicated? Was simple to make!

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning some cool PowerPoint tricks. My new favourite is to use the 'insert album' feature to quickly and easily insert a large number of images into a presentation.

Bridge Perspective

In my world, string bridges look like this.

Today's Gratitude Item: There is light at the end of the tunnel. Let's hope it's not an oncoming train. Have a tonne of 'stuff' to get done in the next two weeks but once that is done things should get easier.

Cubism Revisited

No cubes were harmed in the creation of this image.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having quite a large number of kids on the list for the Israeli Dance elective that I'm running this term. It would have been even better if all the kids had been able to make it for our first session. Had fun with those who did manage to attend.

Fractal Integration

Reminded me of a diagram one might draw to explain the concept of integration (as in a cool way of finding the area under a curve). Maths is beautiful - that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Dinner 'out'. One of my friends was celebrating her 20th wedding anniversary and it was a lovely event. Everyone who was invited took along some food and a good time was had by all.

Forest Fortress

If the background to this one looks familiar, it's because it is. Sort of. The "borders" variation always gives the same wall-like effect but sometimes rendering the results is irresistible.

Today's Gratitude Item: Using a comment bank to generate end of year reports for my students. Doing this allows comments to be recycled and prevents those embarrassing pronoun errors. It also guarantees that the student's name will be correct. Best of all, once a comment from the bank has been put on the report, it can be edited / changed if desired. I've never used a comment bank before but this approach has its advantages. This time around, the entire process was very quick and incredibly simple.

String Perspective

I wonder where this door leads?

Today's Gratitude Item: Summer if finally here. Had a berry / fruit 'slushi' (home made of course) this afternoon to celebrate - it was delicious.

Wednesday, October 16, 2013

Perhaps this one should have been called 'infinite flower'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Jelly beans in a really cool jar. Said jelly beans were in my pigeon hole at school as a 'Welcome Back' from my Head of Department. It was a sweet gesture :)

Gentle Balance

This one has a nice soothing feel to it - hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting Microsoft Office 2013 for my work computer. A lot of my students already have this version and using the software that they use makes life that little bit easier. The fact that it did not take too long to get the software installed was a nice bonus.

Green Repeat

Heard of green retreat? This is green repeat - mainly because the pattern is similar to previous works. I was having that kind of day.

Today's Gratitude Item: That our school's content management system is *finally* back in working order. It got broken in the holidays which made life difficult as kids upload material for me to mark (and then download grades / feedback). All of my resources for my classes are on there too so not having it in working order was quite painful. Having it 'back' is thus a big relief.

Leaf Weave

Reminded me of a leaf made up of bits of interwoven string.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finishing this year's Channukah image. It took much longer than anticipated and will feature on this blog in due course.

Fire Rose

Liked both the bright colours and sense of motion in this one. Having said that, it's probably too intense for most desktops.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having one more day of rest before school goes back. I'm looking forward to getting a lot of small (but important) jobs out of the way.

Glowing Symmetry

Sometimes inverting colours gives usable results. This was one of those times.

Today's Gratitude Item: This pixel art tutorial from Vectips. It was exactly what I needed and it was super easy to follow.

Trapped Cog

Every feel trapped by life, the universe and everything? Then this is the wallpaper for you.

Today's Gratitude Item: One very large tin of anchovies :) Said anchovies were a special treat which will feature on my home made 'pizza bits' in due course. I should probably check that my dancers like anchovies before I get too enthusiastic...

Copper Tendrils

Sometimes good things happen when one plays.

Today's Gratitude Item: On-line product reviews. They can be really helpful in seeing what is 'out there' and getting good value for money. On the downside, I can't use the vodafone cellphone I won last week because it won't work with my 2 degrees sim card and I have no desire to pay $30.00 to unlock a phone which has worse specifications than my current model (which is saying something because my current model is not that great - it's good for making calls, texting, taking *bad* photographs and playing tetris and that's about it). I'm sure someone out there will be more than happy to take said phone off my hands. Maybe I can trade it for chocolate...

Checkered Love

Named for the heart and checkered pattern.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting free "Gold" membership over at Feedspot. Apparently this blog attracted 26 followers in a relatively short time and that was enough for them to decide to give me "Gold" membership for a year. Am not entirely clear on how this is better than the free version, but the aggregator is easier to log in to and less annoying than bloglines.

Flower Love

As in squint and you'll see both a flower and a heart

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a reasonably big project 'out of the way'. I still have loads to do and the holidays are going far too quickly.

Sunday, October 06, 2013

Cold Flame

Basically they are *fractal* columns of fire in cold colours.

Today's Gratitude Item: 'Sour' oranges. Said fruit is extremely tasty but too sour for the rest of my family - which means I don't need to share :)

Saturday, October 05, 2013

Curl Windmill

Reminded me of those windmills we used to play with as kids (again).

Today's Gratitude Item: That my school email appears to be working again. It appeared to be broken for much of Thursday / Friday and even though we are on 'holiday' people still sometimes try and contact me on that address.

Flower Bowl

What could be prettier than a bowl with a flower in it?

Today's Gratitude Item: Winning an Android smart phone (thanks Vodafone)! Part of my professional development 'course' was a competition involving using App Inventor. Ten phones were given away and I got one of them - so today was definitely fun.

Thursday, October 03, 2013

Geometric Pipes

If you look at the sides of diamond, you'll notice a cool ripple / interference effect.

Today's Gratitude Item: Winning a book on App Inventor. This was one of the prizes on offer at my PD (Professional Development) course. So far it's been quite good and I've enjoyed the 'hands on' workshops (the focus is learning how to create simple apps / games for use on Android devices).

Wednesday, October 02, 2013

Ocean Ribbon

An unlikely combination of "polar" and a tiny bit of "disc" resulted in this.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my dad had a spare, brand new USB Flash drive that he was happy to give me. Thanks dad!

Fractal Menorah

Now if only we had a temple to put this in ...

Today's Gratitude Item: That occasionally, things take less time than expected! It's great when that happens.
