Poet's Wall

All this wall is missing is some poetry.

Today's Gratitude Item: The progress reports for my classes are all done! They are due next Wednesday and it's great to have them out of the way.

Stained Glass Spiral

And here I was thinking that my spiral addiction was under control. Never mind.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my Video Conference students are finally starting to use our on-line forum. Hopefully this will lead to them interacting a bit more with each other.

Endless Kiss

If you're wondering why this one is 'endless' tilt your head and stare at it for a bit...

Today's Gratitude Item: That at least some of my "Video Conference" students are getting work done and getting in touch. Delivering content on-line and seeing students for only one hour a week is, in some ways, quite different to having a face-to-face class.

Ocean Song

Background turned out darker than intended - happily it "works" rather well.

Today's Gratitude Item: Gimp's 'colour to alpha' feature. It worked better than I could have imagined and saved me loads of time / effort.

Fanciful Yarn

Tried something a bit different with this one and it seemed to work.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the caravan for Athletics Day lived up to the advertising. Basically it meant I was one of the only ones on the field who had consistent shade all day and I was able to charge my computer so we did not run out of power. Turns out that being the one to write the record keeping database for said Athletics event has it's perks. My colleagues were not so lucky and more than a few of them will be sporting sun burns after a full day in the sun with non-existent shade. Funny thing is, it's class photos tomorrow and quite a few people will be rather red. Sunscreen is effective but only up to a point and people generally sweat it out / miss crucial spots.

Locust in Motion

Pattern and colours are reminiscent of locust wings.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally figuring out how to turn off the automatic 'Date Stamp' on my dad's camera. It's a pity that I only realised this was necessary after having taken a bunch of 'texture' photographs. Happily, the images were all taken at 14 megapixels (aka big enough to put on the side of a bus without quality issues) - so cropping a bit off the bottom is not the end of the world.

Mind Melodies

This one was inspired by the poem, kindly supplied by Gerhard.

Today's Gratitude Item: That Monday is Athletics day and we don't have regular classes. This takes a bit of pressure off as I don't have to do quite so much 'prep'.

Fall Paint

Presenting one of my brightest ideas.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the nicest "Thank You" card ever. It was so good that I'm keeping it as an example of what to write when gifts are received.

Modern Funk

This is completely different to my usual offering. I think I like it. A lot.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to grade student work from just about anywhere. I'm not sure this is a good thing as far as work / life balance goes but it makes it easy to get on top of my massive marking pile.

Complicated Columns

Maybe a bit too much?

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that a meeting which I though was happening on Friday, is in fact happening tomorrow. Less time before the meeting is not great - but turning up a day late would be rather emabarrassing.

Fabric Weight

As in a 'paper weight' but for fabric.

Today's Gratitude Item: That things are often easier the second time around.

Rotating Rose

The recipe for this simply says "Just add flower, then stir".

Today's Gratitude Item: That most of my students are handing in most of the work most of the time. I still need to follow up on a few 'reluctant' students though (such is life).

Oh Buoy

This fractal was rendered twice, once in blue for the ocean, and once in orange for the buoy. Then the post processing fun began.

Today's Gratitude Item: The flexible colour settings in Apophysis (and having the knowledge to get the most out of them).

Storm Anticipation

The dark / brooding colours reminded me of the calm before a storm.

Today's Gratitude Item: That there is an iPad app for Google Drive. Said app has a number of limitations but it is free and will let our iPad loving students complete (and submit) work electronically.

Heart Trellis

The original fractal was full of holes, so I duplicated it in PSP and then shifted the top layer over and 'played' a bit. Happily it worked.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my first Video Conference Class for the year went reasonably well. There were some initial technical problems but those were eventually resolved and it looks like I have a nice (but very shy) group of students. Hopefully as they get more used to using the VC, they will interact a bit more both with me and with each other.

Ever Unfinished

As in there is an incomplete infinity symbol in this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of the newbies from dance last week returned this week! This was a huge (but pleasant) surprise.

Woven Hearts

This one is based on the same params as "Heart Trellis".

Today's Gratitude Item: Early adopters. As in some of my colleagues get as excited about new Technology as I do and are not afraid to trial ideas which look promising.

Monday, February 10, 2014

Ocean Flow

Sometimes there is more to the ocean than water.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a break from carpooling tomorrow. Don't get me wrong - I like my carpool buddy. It's just nice to sometimes 'go it alone'.

Sunday, February 09, 2014

Roof Tiles

Look closely and you'll see these roof tiles are more than 'ordinary'.

Today's Gratitude Item: That it is possible to write plugins for GIMP using Python. Now all I need to do is figure out how to write a piece of code which will double the size of the canvas. Maybe the solution will present itself after a good night's sleep...

Friday, February 07, 2014

Tiger Sands

If it has orange and black stripes - then tigers must be involved.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that book-marking my individual course pages on Moodle made sense - it's quicker to use bookmarks then the in-built navigation. Not too sure what this says about Moodle but at least there is an easy 'work around'.

Thursday, February 06, 2014

Winter Strings

This one did not turn out quite as well as hoped - it's too fragile for my liking.

Today's Gratitude Item: An exciting new design project and the fact that GIMP let's one easily batch 'save', 'rename' and 'resize'. Right now, life is very good.

Calm Coil

The words are part of a poem written by Gerhard Furst.

Today's Gratitude Item: That with any luck, my students will *finally* be able to download full working versions of MS Office 2013 as part of the Office 365 schools program (which means they don't have to pay for the software). Here's hoping the process goes smoothly...

Mist-ery Dust

As in the golden bit reminds me of a mixture of mist and dust.

Today's Gratitude Item: The task list on the right hand side of my google calendar. I've been using it to keep track of all those annoying little 'jobs' that need to be done and so far, it's working brilliantly.

Monday, February 03, 2014

Infinite Ripples

I'm almost certain this is a 'repeat' of previous designs - even though it was created from scratch.

Today's Gratitude Item: Open Source software that lets one compare the contents of two .pdf files. The reason I need to do this is long / complicated - needless to say, the software saves a huge amount of time.

Sunday, February 02, 2014

Skull String

This one is vaguely disturbing. It goes that way sometimes.

Today's Gratitude Item: A very pleasant afternoon tea - it was nice to get out and meet some new people.

Saturday, February 01, 2014

Modern Cuboid

There is something to be said for images which have a strong geometric component.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my dad's printer / scanner is working again. It stopped working a while back for no apparent reason and getting it fixed was *almost* Mission Impossible.
