Convoluted Story

Probably too busy for all but the most Spartan of desktops.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my final assignment for the programming course I have been doing for the last term was 'up to scratch'. All that remains is this weeks optional lecture which introduces material for level 3 (our course was focussed on the level 2 material). It should be fun.

Scottish Sideways

Perhaps this one should have been called 'Tilted Tartan'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time to read and create fractals! It's been too long.

Spiral Sunset

Almost as pretty as a real-life sunset.

Today's Gratitude Item: Completing the final assignment for my Programming course. Am really pleased it is done.

Saturday, September 27, 2014

For those unfamiliar with the Mathematics notation in Python, the above is read as 'String Squared".

Today's Gratitude Item: Putting the clocks forward again. Bring on summer!

5775 Rosh HaShana

The flags in this one represent the countries with the largest Jewish populations (according to a list found on Wikipedia).

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: That it is almost Rosh HaShana and not only to I get the Jewish holidays 'off', schools go on vacation for two weeks (everyone else's last day of term 3 is on Friday). That 'just starting my holiday' feeling is the best!

A pretty variation on a theme that just won't go away.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cloudy days and a willing driver - as in being able to use my computer during the daily commute.

Mask Matters

As in what is behind the mask is what really matters.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being appreciated. It's nice to thanked for doing small things which are not strictly speaking part of my job :)

De Je Blue

We've seen this one before. As in deje vu + blue = De Je Blue.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the 2014 elections are over! Not only was the result more than I'd hoped for, it also means not being bombarded with political 'stuff' for a good long while.

Ocean Motion

Another oddly familiar image...

Today's Gratitude Item: That the garlic flavoured olive oil we use for making garlic bread is also useful for making really yummy bagel chips.

Fluffy Harmony

An old-style image revisited.

Today's Gratitude Item: The MyScript Calculator App. Basically it lets you write expressions on your ipad and it converts them into typed mathematical equations with the answer. It is not perfect - for instance, it only supports one line of working and you can't draw diagrams on it but it is easy and fun to use.

Ball and String

Tried mixing things up a bit on the final transform and got lucky.

Today's Gratitude Item: An unexpected break from my programming course. Our last lecture (and assignment) will only be posted next week.

Column Mosaic

This one is not as pretty as hoped. Not quite ugly enough to 'bin' though.

Today's Gratitude Item: A great turn out for dance class which included a visiting dancer from Melbourne who knew almost *all* our dances. A good time was had by all.

Wonder Wing

Not too sure about the colours on this one...

Today's Gratitude Item: Finishing both my programming assignment and the layout of our community magazine. Right now it's work, work, work!

Shades of Blue

This one was a nice surprise.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making progress on my programming assignment. As is so often the case, getting the program to do what it needs to do has been an 'interesting' journey.

String Stutter

This one took a while to create. Zooming in (a lot) helped.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a fair bit of work done. It's a pity that I did not manage to finish my assignment this weekend. Thankfully, they are flexible on things like 'due dates'.

Ripple tide

For some reason this one makes me happy.

Today's Gratitude Item: Booking tickets to go to Christchurch in December - I can't wait!

Monochrome Water

Getting the gradient / colours (or lack thereof) was a big challenge.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally figuring out how to use 'groups' and 'groupings' in Moodle. This means that it is now possible to set assignments for only some kids in a given course (and not others). Trust me when I say that this is a very useful feature.

Wave Ball

Somehow the checkered effect never gets 'old'.

Today's Gratitude Item: That we are at that point in the year where kids who are not all that motivated either find motivation because they realise they need credits or they stop coming to class because they have already passed the year.

Ocean Waves

This one took a while to create - the effort was worth it though.

Today's Gratitude Item: My Professional Development request for later in the year was approved. This was great news and it means that I get to go to Christchurch in December to do more programming related 'stuff'. It should be fun.

Late Night Ocean

I liked the woven effect on this one. Not too sure about the colours though...

Today's Gratitude Item: That an early morning meeting planned for tomorrow has been postponed. It would have been better if it was cancelled altogether but at this point, I'll take what I can get.

Floral Flow

Reminded me of a flower with flowing petals.

Today's Gratitude Item: Only two more programming assignments to go! I'm really enjoying the course but have limited time to indulge.

Sunday, September 07, 2014

Fan Mosaic

This one was made with Context Free Design Grammar. Let's just say it's been a long time since my last 'play' with this very cool little program.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being up-to-date with my marking and completing this week's programming assignment. Am ready for the new week!

Summer Sunshine

Why is it that when we have days of beautiful sunshine, everyone complains about the lack of rain?

Today's Gratitude Item: Another 'de-stress / do nothing' Saturday. With life being far too busy, time off is a precious commodity.

Heart Net

Show this to your friends and share the love.

Today's Gratitude Item: That two of my most difficult students were away today! That pretty much never happens and it made a huge difference.

Thursday, September 04, 2014

Too Bright

Can an idea be "too bright"? It was worse before I decreased the brightness - talk about 'eye watering'.

Today's Gratitude Item: That it was overcast on the way home! This meant being able to get an extra 40 minutes of work done. Normally it is impossible to do computer work on the way home due to the glare / not being able to see content on my screen. Luckily it was not my turn to drive today.

Lilac Branches

I liked the patterning on this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting some moderation done with a colleague. We still have more to do but making a start on this task was really good.

Tuesday, September 02, 2014

Fine Gold Ripples

Turned out better than expected. Wish I could remember exactly what I did to get this affect.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being offered 'extension work' in the programming course that I'm currently doing. Turns out that my lecturer is worried I am not finding the course challenging enough...

Monday, September 01, 2014

Sine Waves

This one started off as a narrow fractal strip which was 'tiled' after the fact in PSP.

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of my more 'challenged' students managed to successfully complete a major piece of work. He put a lot of effort into the task and I was thrilled with what he managed to achieve.
