Violet Distortion

Reminds me of the 'African Violet' pot plants that we had when I was growing up.

Violet Distortion

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting help with a Python problem which has frustrated me for weeks. The solution, as suspected was incredibly simple (as in I knew I was missing something 'obvious').

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally successfully 'binding' arrow keys in Python. This took a while to figure out.

Sukkot 5776

With 'pop up' restaurants and shops becoming common place, I thought it was time that the 'Booth Brothers' got in on the act. If you are in NZ, then this image is one day late and it is not your imagination.

Sukkot 5776

The huge version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A burst of creativity which resulted in quite a few fractals being created.

Spring Bloom

As in a flower made up of springs.

Spring Bloom

Today's Gratitude Item: The start of daylight saving. Losing an hour's sleep is a small price to pay for 'longer' days.

Gold Disc Curtain

Hopefully this one is not 'too bright' for desktop wallpaper

Gold Disc Curtain

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: An easy day. It was the last day of term today and all the 'dodgy' kids stayed home. Exams finished yesterday and our motivated students came in for 'debrief day'. Those less enthusiastic about school decided to start their holiday early.

Double Interference

Sometimes horizontal lines can be surprising.

Double Interference

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: One more day of school before we get a two week break. I'm looking most forward to the time off (it's been a very busy term).

Portal to the Unknown

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That Yom Kippur is 'done' for this year. Needless to say, this is one of my least favourite 'holidays'.

This one was Inspired by a vintage music festival poster.

Yom Kippur 5776

The really massive version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting things set up so that my students can submit their external assessment electronically. We are part of a trail which, if successful could result in a lot less paperwork (literally). I'm hoping things will go smoothly.

Oasis Upgraded

Playing with 'depth blur' was a good idea.

Oasis Upgraded

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having any junior classes. With the seniors busy with exams things are a lot quieter than they have been in some time and it makes a nice change.

Etched Olympics

This is what happens if you don't wipe the bottom of your coffee cup. Don't say you weren't warned.

Etched Olympics

Spiral Spring

Today's Gratitude Item: Gorgeous weather. Spring is definitely here and I'm enjoying the longer days and am looking forward to the start of daylight saving (bring on summer!).

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally having time to focus on learning how to code a Python GUI. My head now hurts but at least some progress has been made.

Spirals on Steroids

Sometimes 'no colour' is the best option.

Spirals on Steroids

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Twitter. It can be the fastest way to get urgent questions answered by large government departments.

Wednesday, September 16, 2015

Koru Coin

Took ages to create. At least the time was not wasted.

Koru Coin

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally resolving a situation which has been 'in progress' for about two weeks. Whilst the conclusion was less than ideal, being able to 'move on' is a great feeling.

Ribbon Road

Tried something quite 'different' and it worked.

Ribbon Road

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Two days of unconnected bliss (taking a break from technology = a very peaceful start to the New Year). In addition, making french toast with the left over babka turned out to be a hit and this will probably be repeated in years to come.

Rosh HaShana 5776

A rather obvious take on the theme of 'apples and honey'.

Rosh HaShana 5776

The huge version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Delicious warm, home made babka. This is a traditional 'once a year' treat and getting to eat some of it 'early' was really special.

Rotating Ribbons

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A random spurt of creativity. Let's just say that it's been a while.

Shadow Flowers

It's amazing what one can do with a large amount of triangles.

Shadow Flowers

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being 'gifted' a cool plastic spider by one of my students. It appeared on my keyboard and I think they were hoping it would give me a fright. They were wrong! Said spider now has pride of place on my notice board.

Wednesday, September 09, 2015

Spike Wave

Reminds me of fireworks for some reason.

Spike Wave

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That Flickr is being cooperative again. Things have been a bit 'buggy' over the past few days but they now seem to be back to normal which is good.

Triangulated

At least naming this one was easy.

Triangulated

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making my first ever 'Bootstrap' site. It was an experiment and I'm not 100% happy with it but it is responsive and I can see a lot of potential in the tool.

Tinsel Weave

In this case, 'shiny' is good.

Tinsel Weave

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: "Two birds with one stone". Got organised to go travelling and documented how to evaluate the usability of an interface (it's a Computer Science thing). Happily, my screen recording tool lets me blur out material that I want to keep private. It also lets one pause when recording to avoid any potential 'oversharing'.

Modern Try

Finally a triquetra that was worth rendering!

Modern Try

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A really lovely afternoon 'out'. Part of the attraction could have been the fact that it was an excuse not to spend today doing school work.

Irish Cross Roads

Had fun with the 'knot work' background.

Irish Cross Roads

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A mystery being solved. A while back one of my students complained that I had not taught them about two dimensional arrays. He did not recognise that a 'list within a list' is a two dimensional array (ie: the work had been well covered in class) and I was wondering where he got the notion of 2D arrays from. It turns out that his dad is a rather 'involved' parent who is able to program. Now the trick is to figure out how much of his recent assessment is his work and how much is his dad's. A meeting may well be in order.

Another experiment which went well.

Side Waves

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my planning workload for next year has been massively reduced. One of the courses that I'm responsible for won't happen next year. Ordinarily that would not be a cause for celebration but in this case, it's actually a good thing and I am extremely happy about this latest development.

Pasta Wheel

Wouldn't it be cool if you could get pasta in this shape. It would make an excellent 'sauce carrier'.

Pasta Wheel

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That this morning's atrocious weather (strong winds and heavy rain) cleared away before I had to be 'out and about'.
