Wild Triple

As in three interwoven entities going a bit crazy.

Today's Gratitude Item: One week and one day left of this term. Next week will be 'long' due to 'learner lead conferences' but holidays are achingly close.

Ribbon Revolution

Liked the '3D' effect of this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not being affected by today's flooding which had an impressive impact on some parts of Auckland city.

Blooming String

Took my time with the background on this one and I think it paid off.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting the 'go ahead' to store my moderation electronically rather than using paper. This could be because I flat out refused to go the paper route, as all of my assessments are electronic and don't 'translate' to hard copy very well. The short version is that this time, common sense actually prevailed.

Light Curtain

Am not sure if this is a curtain that is made of light, or if it's a curtain that is well alight!

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally winning the 'Monday Memo' quiz. Each Monday on the broadsheet that is handed out at 'briefing' before school, there is a picture of a New Zealand historical figure. The challenge is to identify said figure and provide a bit of information on why they are significant. This week I was the only one to get it right. The odds of winning are actually quite good as of the 80 odd teaching staff, there are usually only 4 or 5 entries. It appears as if most of my colleagues have not quite got the hang of using google image search.

Comet Collision

I'm pretty sure that I've made something really similar to this before.

Today's Gratitude Item: Taking the time to make fractals this weekend. I am looking most forward to the end of term (two weeks to go).

Ring Ripple

Sometimes ripping things apart can work.

Today's Gratitude Item: Today's weather was such that the only viable activities were napping and reading a book - so I made the most of it. Am feeling slightly guilty about not exercising at all but am completely rested :)

Greek Key

If you don't see the resemblance, try tilting your head by about 45 degrees.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to solve an annoying / frustrating programming problem with the help of Stack Overflow. I finally joined the community and asked a question. The answer gave me enough information that I could solve the problem.

Soft Spiral

It's been a while but the reality is that spirals are never far away.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to edit / rearrange .pdf files by opening them in Illustrator. It means that I can customise Maths Worksheets for my students with relative ease.

Wednesday, June 22, 2016

Spinning Rose

Could also be called 'happy coincidence', mostly because I got lucky with the final transform.

Today's Gratitude Item: Breaks in the bad weather. As in if one is even slightly patient, then getting wet in Auckland's bad weather appears to be optional. Sometimes said breaks are quite short at which point 'making a dash for it' becomes necessary.

Infinite Sphere

If you look closely, you'll see the infinity symbol.

Today's Gratitude Item: Horrible weather tomorrow. This is a good thing as it means that our 'whole school' assembly has been changed so that we are in a more comfortable venue and instead of having to suffer through an hour of stuff, we get a condensed half hour version.

Spiro Trunk

As in a 'spirograph' tree trunk.

Today's Gratitude Item: That at least some of my students are able to think for themselves. Teaching programming is often quite interesting as my brighter students usually come up with novel (and fun) ways of solving the various problems. It's great when they go beyond what was asked and really take ownership of their learning.

Many Circles

Every so often Apophysis produces some really nice images. This was one of those times.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my first ever 'google hangout' went relatively smoothly.

String Theory

This one is a variation on a theme.

Today's Gratitude Item: An 80th birthday which was a lot more fun than one might assume. Let's just say that lots of dancing was involved and a good time was had by all.

String Triquetra

This one is worth a closer look.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a large amount of 'must do' work done. Sending out emails to the parents of my level 1 programming students went particularly well as I have figured out how to share both their grades and my feedback on the work. It will be interesting to see how this type of feedback affects work completion (and overall success).

Blue Harmony

Related to 'String Triquetra', I could not resist recolouring and rendering it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to wait in line for coffee. My colleagues (who teach 'hospitality' and are in the process of the wonderful 'coffee' topic) know me well enough that on the days when they sell coffee, they have my order hot and ready at the start of morning tea so that I don't need to wait in line. That's what I call great service :)

Circular String

This one is 'interesting' - not sure if I like it all that much.

Today's Gratitude Item: My work computer is finally back to normal. It took a while to get all the software I use back onto it but at least working properly now.

Pretty Bad Weather

As in a looks like a beautiful storm.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a recalcitrant program working. As is so often the case, there is a *long* story behind this one.

Monday, June 13, 2016

Blind Earth

The horizontal lines reminded me of blinds.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my work computer is once again working. It was not connecting to the internet via wireless and required a complete 're-image' to resolve the problem. Happily everything was backed up prior to said re-image and most of the software that I need has been reinstalled.

Sunday, June 12, 2016

Hole Geometry

This one was quite easy to create.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making slow progress on a program that I'm working on for my level 3 course. In this case, slow progress is infinitely better than 'no progress'. The process has been painful and frustrating but I am getting very close to solving the problem.

Shavuot 5776

This one is worth a very close look. The 'cards' in the display cabinet are not just there for decoration.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: That my cell phone recharges really quickly. It only took 90 minutes to go from zero to 92% charged.

Friday, June 10, 2016

Silk Sky

Sometimes shiny is very good.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my students solved an annoying problem that quite a few of us were having. He shared the 'fix'. It was not obvious but it's easy when you know how.

Thursday, June 09, 2016

Copper Up Close

Is it a weed or a flower?

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting teacher aide help with my 'mixed ability' Math class. Some of the students are really struggling and having another adult in the room to help them get to grips with the material is hugely helpful. Said teacher aide will be with us for the foreseeable future and he is amazing.

Infinite Thistle

There is something not quite right about this one...

Today's Gratitude Item: That sometimes making requested changes to client's websites is both quick and easy.

Tuesday, June 07, 2016

Lateral Growth

This one reminded me of sprouting plants.

Today's Gratitude Item: Really comfortable new shoes that have replaced my old 'treadmill shoes'.

Monday, June 06, 2016

Tunnel Disc

As in the dark hole at the center of this one is a tunnel.

Today's Gratitude Item: Somehow getting most of the 'stuff' that needed to get done this *long* weekend, done. I won't bore you with the details.

Sunday, June 05, 2016

Ultra Violet String

The 'string' was much clearer in the 'un-rendered' image. Am not too thrilled about the unanticipated smoothness of this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finishing an eBook that has arguably been over a year in the making. I need it for Tuesday and am really glad that it is ready in time. Here's hoping there are no embarrassing mistakes in this one.

Saturday, June 04, 2016

Cut Above

Named for the 'cut' about two thirds of the way up the image.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally having time to make a client's site responsive. They wanted a bunch of images put onto one of the pages and presenting the material as a slide show made sense. One thing lead to another and by the end, the site had been edited quite a bit (which is a very good thing).

Friday, June 03, 2016

Thatch Roof

In the preview, the 'thatch' quality was much more obvious.

Today's Gratitude Item: A very strong cappuccino at the start of the day - am looking forward to catching up on sleep over the weekend.

Frill Flower

Sometimes 'pale' can be pretty.

Today's Gratitude Item: Reaching a blogging milestone. This is post #4,000 :)

2D Waves

Was excited to discover that this one tiles :)

Today's Gratitude Item: That the water spout that appeared very close to school went past us without causing any damage. Turns out water spouts are unusual enough to be be featured in the news. Here's the article.
