Purple Mountain

This is my version of Purple Mountains.

Purple Mountain

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being sensible and cancelling dance class. My dancers were all suitably sympathetic which is good. Here's hoping that next week we can resume class as normal.

Hole Rotation

It took ages to find colours that worked with well for this one.

Hole Rotation

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cold medicine that actually works.

Monday, August 21, 2017

Drain Hole

Only the drain in my sink is not as pretty as this one.

Drain Hole

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to go to an afternoon meeting - it turns out that having a cold is a great reason to go home 'early'. Whilst I am not a fan of being unwell, in this case there was a fairly significant silver lining.

Sunday, August 20, 2017

Double Hole

With a funky checkered background thrown in for good measure.

Double Hole

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the 'on site' lectures for the course I am doing were videoed at the time. I needed a very specific piece of information that was missing from the notes that I took way back in April - happily finding said information by looking at the video was both quick and easy.

Spindle Check

A variation on a theme that worked out rather well.

Spindle Check

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Home made chicken soup! I *might* be coming down with a bit of a cold and am hoping that said chicken soup will keep the worst of it away.

Radiant Ribbon

This combines two of my favourite things, a spiral and a woven design.

Radiant Ribbon

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an extra 'free' due to my one class being on a field trip. I was anticipating being given internal cover but this did not happen (which is great). It felt strange not having to teach my 9th grade math class...

Thursday, August 17, 2017

Tail Display

Reminded me of a peacock's tail. Sort of.

Tail Display

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: My 9th grade Math class are going on a field trip tomorrow which means we get a bit of a break from each other (this is a good thing).

Fern Shade

Simple but hopefully effective.

Fern Shade

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding an easy to follow set of tutorials that are helpful when learning C#. Also helpful is the fact that at least some of the syntax is reminiscent of php (commenting and the need to put semi-colons at the end of each line are common to both languages).

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Fire Funnel

Is it just me or is this one slightly ominous?

Fire Funnel

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That options evening went really well. It will be interesting to see how many students choose my subject for next year...

Monday, August 14, 2017

Spiral Check

I'm pretty sure we have been here before. Repeatedly.

Spiral Check

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having someone else take care of the 'little' things which sometimes are not so little.

Sunday, August 13, 2017

Shimmer Web

If this is the web, what does the spider look like?

Shimmer Web

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally submitting my second Uni assignment. Two down, one more to go. Only problem is that the last one is the big one (worth 60% of our final grade).

Saturday, August 12, 2017

Crescent Rose

Sometimes disc designs are good.

Crescent Rose

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That Winter Warm-up went well - mostly due to the fact that one of my dancers brought her computer / speakers as a back up 'just in case'. Without said backup we would have been up 'that' creek without a paddle (long story).

Friday, August 11, 2017

Blue Sun

Made in the car on the way to work (way back when I had a car pool buddy who happened to be driving while I 'worked').

Blue Sun

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting my CV updated! Needless to say, the hunt for work closer to home continues...

Thursday, August 10, 2017

Revisited Fan

We've been here before but the urge to render was irresistible.

Revisited Fan

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to quickly highlight text in Moodle when there is no obvious tool to do so. A tiny bit of html / css was required.

Wednesday, August 09, 2017

Solar Eclipse v2

This one did not turn out as well as hoped.

Solar Eclipse v2

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding out that sliding downwards with three fingers on my laptop will show my desktop. This is a cool Windows 10 / laptop multi-touch gesture that I did not know about until I saw one of my senior students showing it to a classmate.

Tuesday, August 08, 2017

Solid Upholstery

As in it looks like old fashioned upholstery fabric.

Solid Upholstery

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally having a decent day over at Shutterstock. Let's just say that in recent months things have been far quieter than I'd like...

Monday, August 07, 2017

Spiral Stare Case

The colours of this one required a fair bit of tweaking.

Spiral Stare Case

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting updated contact information for a site I maintain without the anticipated pain of tracking down said information. It magically appeared in my inbox courtesy of one of my contacts which saved me a bit of time and stress.

Sunday, August 06, 2017

Interesting Squared

This one is somewhere between a flower and a weird web.

Interesting Squared

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: I'm considering switching schools for next year which means that the hunt for a new job is on. Fortunately my Uni lecturer is happy to act as a reference. Now 'all' I need to do is dust off my CV, update it and find a suitable position. I believe the term 'Oy Vey' applies.

Saturday, August 05, 2017

Wave Smoke

This one turned out better than expected.

Wave Smoke

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an A grade on the first assignment for my Uni Course. It's a case of 'one down, two more to go'...

Thursday, August 03, 2017

Geometrix

For some reason this one makes me very happy.

Geometrix

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting some worries off my chest. My school has made some decisions that I don't agree with when it comes to courses for next year. At least the DP was willing to listen to what I had to say. It will be interesting to see if anything changes (I'm not holding my breath though).

Wednesday, August 02, 2017

Odd Flower

Zooming in to just part of this fractal did the trick.

Odd Flower

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having spare batteries in the cupboard for my iPad keyboard which died quite suddenly at some point yesterday. Things are all working again now which is great.

Tuesday, August 01, 2017

Flower Tile

The negative flower in the middle of the tile was the main reason that this one got rendered.

Flower Tile

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not being the only one to post dodgy usability examples in the Usability FB page I administer. For a while there it felt like I was the only one experiencing bad usability on a regular basis.

Monday, July 31, 2017

Tisha B'Av 5777

Whilst Tisha B'Av is always a very sad day, the underlying message is one of hope.

5777 Tisha B'Av

The extremely large version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That *most* of my days are filled with hope rather than mourning.

Sunday, July 30, 2017

Hot Blue

An interesting design that did not quite 'deliver'. Was not quite ugly enough to abandon completely.

Hot Blue

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to create individualised 'to do' lists for my 7th grade math students. The plan is to get them to complete material that lets them work on 'gaps' in their knowledge rather than getting everyone to do the same thing. It will be interesting to see how this goes...

Saturday, July 29, 2017

Flame Game

This one took a fair bit of 'post processing' - the original does not look anything like this.

Flame Game

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: An unexpectedly super-fast response to an email. It's good to know I'm not the only one working on the weekend.

Friday, July 28, 2017

The hexagonal shapes reminded me of snowflakes.

Cold Connection

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being up-to-date on marking before the start of a weekend :)

Thursday, July 27, 2017

String Flute

In my world, wind instruments sometimes fit in the 'string' section.

String Flute

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: I checked my pigeon hole today and was surprised (and delighted) to find a lovely card and some petrol vouchers from two teachers who really appreciated some resources that I shared earlier in the year.

Wednesday, July 26, 2017

Moth Diamond

I really liked the 'feathery' texture of the wings so this one got rendered.

Moth Diamond

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time to catch up with a whole lot of 'stuff' that needed doing. It's only the start of term and I'm already feeling quite stressed and more than a little over worked.

Tuesday, July 25, 2017

Wheel Bloom

There was a bit of 're-invention' with this particular wheel.

Wheel Bloom

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Trying something and having it work first time around. This is a rare occurrence and it was a nice surprise.

Monday, July 24, 2017

Spiral Comfort

A surprise that turned out better than expected.

Spiral Comfort

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Surviving the first day of our new term. Only 49 school days to go until the next set of holidays!

Saturday, July 22, 2017

Scottish Sculpture

This one is, quite literally, 'nice and different'.

Scottish Sculpture

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a second puzzle book! It turns out that school holidays means having a lot of time to do crosswords etc.

Friday, July 21, 2017

Xmas Flower Ball

Even though I don't celebrate Christmas, the shiny decorations are oddly appealing. Also for some reason at this time of year, Christmas type fractals randomly appear on my screen - which is beyond weird.

Xmas Flower Ball

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting quite a bit done! I am not exactly thrilled about having to go back to school on Monday but at least I'm not dreading it...

Thursday, July 20, 2017

Floral DNA

This would be a cool throw pillow.

Floral DNA

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Rainy weather. Which is perfect for curling up with a good book / crossword puzzle.

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

Four Squares

In addition to the whole spiral 'thing', I now have a 'square' thing too.

Four Squares

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to use the gym for dance tonight (again). The Community Security Guys who usually use the space were kind enough to switch to the smaller space as they had fewer people. It was a very pleasant surprise and I am grateful that they were willing to accommodate our needs.

Tuesday, July 18, 2017

Hard and Soft

As in the center is quite 'hard' and the surrounding texture is quite soft.

Hard and Soft

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A really relaxing 'play' day where no real work was done.

Monday, July 17, 2017

Floor Tiles

Simple but strangely compelling.

Floor Tiles

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: A very nice little site called lashon.net. This site allows users to automatically generate the Hebrew text for either the Tanach or Mishna. It made creating this year's Simchat Torah image a lot easier than it would otherwise have been. For a sneak peak of said image, please click the preceding link.

Sunday, July 16, 2017

Flower Belt

This one is a bit too floral for my liking...

Flower Belt

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That replacing some of my less than perfect images with improved versions on flickr was really easy.

Saturday, July 15, 2017

Hanging in the Balance

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a day of sunshine! After several days of freezing cold, cloudy days we finally caught a break.

Scottish Stairs

This one could have been called 'Tartan Ripple'.

Scottish Stairs

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That making a *virtual* Sukkah was not as hard as anticipated. Having recyclable schach helped.

Thursday, July 13, 2017

Scottish Spiral

This one is a twist on a very familiar theme.

Scottish Spiral

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to make a flat square image curve around a pre-existing cylinder. If this sounds complicated that is because it is.

Wednesday, July 12, 2017

Forest Tread

When I first saw this one, it reminded me of tread marks - hence the name.

Forest Tread

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to use the Gym in the community center where we are currently dancing rather than the much smaller hall. The guys who usually use the gym on Wednesday nights apparently decided to take a break this week which was great for us.

Tuesday, July 11, 2017

Butterfly Blues

This one turned out better than expected.

Butterfly Blues

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: One down, four more to go. As in I have created my Rosh HaShana image for 5778 and have four more images to make. As always, the hardest part is coming up with a decent idea for any given image ...

Monday, July 10, 2017

Floral Fantasy - Version 2

Weird things happen when you mix diamonds and flowers. This one is firmly in the 'not sure if this was a good idea' pile.

Floral Fantasy - Version 2

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That thus far none of my students have uploaded overdue work! It means not having to mark said work and whilst those who are behind should be working hard to catch up, we all know its not going to happen which means I get a bit of a break.

Sunday, July 09, 2017

Slightly Off Balance

Sometimes being 'slightly off' works - this was one of those times.

Slightly Off Balance

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: That in addition to being on school holidays, things are really quiet on the Uni front. Taking a brief break from insane busyness is bliss.

As in a wall with lots of holes.

Holy Wall

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Rippled Texture

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making it to the end of term!

Thursday, July 06, 2017

Drawn in Quarters

Every so often something just 'different enough' appears on my screen. It took longer than one might think to get the background to co-operate.

Drawn in Quarters

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: One more day until Winter Vacation! Right now, I have a hate / hate relationship with my alarm clock. The only thing worse than it going off is if it does not go off at all!

Wednesday, July 05, 2017

Disc Flowers

This one is a rather pretty variation on a theme.

Disc Flowers

The wallpaper version is available at the preceding link.

Today's Gratitude Item: My 8th grade Math class were getting ready for a test tomorrow and we had an algebra revision sheet but no answers. Instead of hurriedly trying to work out all the answers, I got the class to collaborate on a shared spreadsheet where students would post a possibly correct answer and others in the class would either 'up vote' or disagree and post an alternate answer. This worked better than expected and the answer key ended up being 'self correcting'. I think the kids learned a lot doing it this as they had to take risks, be polite and respectful and think about why a possible solution was correct / wrong.
