Violet Cube

Take some floral colours, add in really strong geometry and this is the result.

Today's Gratitude Item: Good Reads! School has a 'thing' where they want staff to share what they are currently reading with students in the hope that this will encourage said students to read more. Updating the 'what I'm currently reading' poster fairly frequently is inconvenient. With Good Reads, it is easy to review books and share the link to one's profile which shows what you are currently reading and ALL the reviews you have written. It's the perfect solution to this particular problem.

Fan of Bowls

As in this one is a fan made out of bowls.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting released from school slightly early. They scheduled a 'Civil Defence' drill for the end of last period and once that was over, everyone was allowed to go home :)

Gentle Argyle

Am not too sure about this one. There is a find line between 'gentle' and 'wishy washy'. This one might just be on the wrong side of that line.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not getting too lost trying to travel between school and an off-site cluster meeting. It turns out that road markings are only useful when the traffic is not too heavy. I struggled at a series of roundabouts because the arrows on the road showing which lane was 'straight' and which lane was 'turning only' were covered up by cars!

String Triangulation

This one has all of my favourite elements, so it is no surprise that it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: A great turn out at dance class (and being mostly recovered from my cold).

Sandshell Cave

As in a sandy coloured shell with a not so hidden cave in the bottom left corner.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finding time to put my Usability Posters on the wall in my classroom.

Monday, June 25, 2018

Hole Ripple

Playing with ripples is always fun.

Today's Gratitude Item: The posters for my classroom walls are ready to go. They are laminated and look great. This time around, I did not have to do said laminating / cutting. Our amazing resource room ladies did it for me and saved me masses of time :)

Urn It!

Sometimes squashing circles is a very good idea.

Today's Gratitude Item: Feeling *much* better and getting a fair amount of work done. I'm almost ready for school tomorrow...

Saturday, June 23, 2018

Twisted String

It's a disc with a funky twist.

Today's Gratitude Item: Lots of hot tea on a cold day. Am still battling with a dry throat and persistent cough. The *black* tea helps (and by tea I mean herbal infusion rather than 'real' tea).

Friday, June 22, 2018

Silver String

Adding colour to this one detracted from the design - hence the decision to go grayscale.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a contract with my new school. Said contract lasts all the way until the start of 2020 which is longer than anticipated. So it's all good :)

Tightly Wound

It took ages to get this one looking 'just right'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Parent / Teacher interviews that went well. My voice lasted the distance and the meetings were all worthwhile.

Fish Kiss

If you can't see the fish in question, try squinting.

Today's Gratitude Item: That at school it is possible to get from my classroom to my car without getting wet when it is raining. In a city like Auckland where rain is the norm, you'd think that schools would be designed so that students and staff could remain dry when moving between classes. You'd be wrong! In most Auckland schools getting wet when it rains is pretty much guaranteed.

Wave Manufacture

As in this is the place where waves are made.

Today's Gratitude Item: Discovering that one can use Window's 'Magnify' feature to get a larger / zoomed in version of what is on screen. This is useful for generating high resolution screenshots which are destined for printed posters...

Water Ways

I'm not quite sure how to describe this one but it looks like a place that is worth further exploration.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finishing a time consuming and somewhat tedious task. Some days are like that...

Sunday, June 17, 2018

Fire Chain

As in chains and fire were involved.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting most of the stuff on my list accomplished. There are still ongoing (time consuming) projects but at least I'm not hopelessly behind.

Saturday, June 16, 2018

Escape the Net

Made on a 'good day' where everything just worked. It's a pity that such days are not more common.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my cold is on the way out. My voice is almost back to normal which is good, especially as making 'how to' videos for my students in on my 'to do list'.

Unforgettable Fire Flower

The flower reminded me of a 'forget me not' - hence the title.

Today's Gratitude Item: A lovely morning tea. First one at the new school and it was delicious :)

Skeleton Flower

Am really not sure about this one. I liked the ripple effect so it got rendered but the colours are very subtle.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally being at the point where I know most of my students' names. I'm roughly two weeks into the new role but learning kids names when they are facing a screen and not the front is a lot harder than one might think!

Not So Plain Sailing

Is it just me or is there a sail in this one?

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to reuse resources that I made previously in the new job. Things are not a perfect fit (resource wise) but it is close enough in the short term...

Tuesday, June 12, 2018

Mystic Blue Lily

This one is in the 'weird but not ugly enough to bin' category.

Today's Gratitude Item: Slowly making progress in cleaning up my classroom. It's got a way to go but it looks a lot better than it did earlier in the week.

Monday, June 11, 2018

Circle Bunch

As in a bunch of circles.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to stay after school for a meeting. Due to my current cold, I asked for permission to skip said meeting and was pleasantly surprised and deeply grateful that it was granted instantly. It's great to work at a school where senior management genuinely care about staff.

Multi Star

Getting metallic fractals can be surprisingly tricky. Happily things went well this time around.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my brother (aka: my tech guy) was able to explain some mysterious code that a colleague uses when teaching databases. To be fair, said code was beautiful. It was also a lot more than my current students would be able to cope with...

Cancelled Stamps

With email, stamps are something of a rarity. In fact, one could argue that for the most part, they have been cancelled.

Today's Gratitude Item: A brilliantly relaxing day after a week that gave new meaning to the words 'full on'.

Friday, June 08, 2018

Rain Inspired

It was raining when this one was made - so much so that a small lake formed outside where the garden used to be.

Today's Gratitude Item: A nifty little system at school that lets us text parents using Outlook if they don't have email. The catch? Texts should be less than 160 characters to avoid multiple messages. The upside? It's quick and easy to use and replies come straight to my inbox.

Thursday, June 07, 2018

Palace Floor

It can be tricky trying to get bright colours to play nicely together. This one is something of a success story in that department.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to worry about filling up my car. Things have been extremely busy (it's never been quite this insane) and I am extremely grateful to my dad who filled up my car so that I can get to work tomorrow without needing any extra stops along the way. At times like this, those 'little' things make a huge difference.

Wednesday, June 06, 2018

Golfer's Friend

As in a hole which suck's in golf balls!

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that my headphones / microphone are actually fine and the problems I was experiencing were due to slightly broken software. Uninstalling and reinstalling said software seems to have worked (fingers crossed).

Tuesday, June 05, 2018

Go Flow Revisited

I know we have been here before but it was so much fun the last time that we're back for another visit.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the microphone on my headset mysteriously started working again after it mysteriously stopped working! It's been on of 'those' days.

Monday, June 04, 2018

Winter Sharpness

This one involved some tiling of the original image.

Today's Gratitude Item: That Photoshop is very easy to use. I still prefer GIMP as it is powerful, open source and has some filters that are missing from Photoshop but when one has to teach Photoshop at school, being able to quickly get up to speed is a good thing.

Sunday, June 03, 2018

Wave Curtain

Made with bright colours and careful tiling.

Today's Gratitude Item: That tomorrow is a public holiday (Queen's Birthday). I need all the time I can get to prepare for classes on Tuesday!

Trapped in Metal

A metallic vortex where escape is tricky to say the least.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finishing something that took far longer than expected!

Friday, June 01, 2018

Star Focus

This one was a cozy surprise.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting a 'basic' program to work.
