Smoke Rings

The graphic below is called "Smoke Rings".

My home computer decided to throw another "hissy fit" yesterday. Ended up having to go back to an older "restore point". Hopefully this will fix the problem for good. Won't be adding any new software on to my machine until I am sure that it is back to normal again.

Green Thing

In honour of the approaching spring, I present my very own "Green Thing".

If memory serves, this image was obtained by taking a rather ordinary looking fractal and changing it in to a negative image using Paint Shop Pro. Gotta love it when random experimenting actually works.

Rainbow Lungs

Had a very busy weekend, hence the early morning post. Yesterday involved a trip to Waiheke Island with a friend followed by dance class. It was all good :)

The image above was created some time ago and is called "Rainbow Lungs".

Spore Ball

It could be a magnified mushroom spore, only it isn't.

Am very happy right now. Blogger has put in place word verification to help prevent spam comments. Thanks Blogger!

Digital Daffodil

Am pleased to report that things are much better than they were yesterday. Restored relationship with my mom and my genius brother worked his magic on my computer. Flu still lingers.

Today is officially "Daffodil Day". For those readers who are not in NZ, Daffodil Day is the main promotional and fundraising event for the Cancer Society of New Zealand.

Why Daffodils?? The official website explains:

"The daffodil was chosen because of its reputation as a hardy annual flower that can push its way through the frozen earth after a long hard winter and herald the new life and growth of spring. The Cancer Society chose the daffodil because it symbolises the struggle people have with cancer and that with research and healthier lifestyles there is hope."

Dismal :(

Things are not going well right now. I made a list.

  • Still have a sore throat that won't go away
  • My home computer is sicker than I am (as in it won't start up anymore)!
  • Had a fight with my mom last night

Am so frustrated that screaming is beginning to look like a rational response. The fractal below reflects my state of mind.

It used to be called "Blue Rose" but am changing the name to "Lightless Tunnel".

Organised Chaos

Ran out of time / energy last night hence the late post. Am sitting here giving new meaning to the phrase "sick and tired".

The above looks like it belongs in an ocean somewhere.

The Italian Job

Throat still very sore. Feeling grumpy and bad tempered. Fractal below did nothing to cheer me up. Need to get a life.

The above looks like pasta! Cannelloni to be precise.

Hell Fire

Is it just me or does it look like there is someone screaming in the middle of this one?

The above graphic is what my throat feel like right now. Very sore. Glands swollen as well. Am feeling rather sorry for myself. This is not a great way to start the week!

Of course I have to go to work tomorrow. No work = no pay. Am booked solid for the next five weeks.

Spiral Ripple

I was not having a good day on yesterday, I called Friday's fractal "Spiral Ripple" when I meant to say "Spiral Weave". The goal was to save the title "Spiral Ripple" for today's offering which actually has a ripple in it.

Update: Years later, this image has mysteriously disappeared (as in lost by flickr) - it's probably for the best (updated 23/09/2012)

Happily the title of Friday's post has been edited so that the error has been fixed.

Spiral Weave

The Spiral theme continues with today's fractal.

This is an "interesting" one but it is not as good as yesterday's image.

Silk Sea Shell

Have been looking forward to posting this one. It is one of my personal favourites.

This week is Maths Week. At school today there was a quiz in the staff room and one of the questions asked us to compose a limerick with the first line:
There was a mathematician named Sam....

Here is my attempt

There was a mathematician named Sam
He kept kosher and never ate ham
He really loved pi
And never would lie
Unless he was caught in a jam.

Electric Octopus

The image below was originally titled "Blue Wave" but when I looked at it again, it reminded me of the an octupus tentacle, hence the rather more creative title of "Electric Octopus".

Below is another spiral generated with Neil's script.

Its called "Gallaxia" because if you look closely, you will see small spiral "gallaxies" around the main spiral.

Forest Spiral

This post is dedicated to Neil Slater, the author of the script which allowed me to create the fractal below.

Thanks for sharing Neil!

Tisha B'Av

Today is the 9th of Av (ie: Tisha B'Av). This is the saddest day in the Jewish calendar as it is the anniversary of the destruction of both the first and second temples.

The fractal below is an attempt to commemorate those tragic events.

To find out more about Tisha B'Av, see this article entitled "Waking up to a World without God's Presence".

Strange View

This is one of the more unusual fractals that I have created. Hard to describe it really, it looks like the view of a blue lake through an orange portal.

The petrol price continues to soar, which is not a good thing. Yesterday it was $1.43 per litre at the pumps. The depressing part of this is that a large amount of that price is tax and if the Labour government wins the upcoming election, they will stick on another 5c per litre because of the Kyoto Protocol. Anyone want to guess where my vote is going??

Shickered Star

If stars got inebriated, this is what they would look like.

Why is it that the English language, has so many different words for drunk?? Below are some of my favourites.

  • Shickered*
  • Sloshed
  • Tipsy
  • Hammered
  • Plastered
  • Totaled
  • Wasted

*Technically, this word is Yiddish but it is what we say when we mean "drunk". Interestingly, there is an Israeli dance step called "Shicker" because it mimics the movements of a drunkard.

Welcome Home Discovery

The fractal below is dedicated to the successful return of the Discovery crew after their rather eventful mission. I was just relieved that they made it back safely.

The image above is called "Lucky Star" mostly because I got lucky with the fractal and the gradient.

Early Morning Update

The image below was created some time last month when I was not "flat out" like I am now. Would have posted last night but was too busy, hence this "early morning update" which is called "Spiked Spiral".

Glass Star

If Stars were made of glass, would they look like this??

Saturday, August 06, 2005

Star Swirl

The image below is called "Star Swirl".

Have not had much time to create fractals this week, but a few fractals are better than none at all.

Fractal Addiction

Its the end of a long week and am very happy that the weekend is here! Not that the week has been bad, its just been busy.

The above is called "Star Silk" and was created on Tuesday night when I should have been getting ready for bed. I think I have a fractal addiction.

Alien Dart Board

Below is yet another "ripple" type fractal.

So far only one person has responded to my "What's Wrong with this Picture?" post from yesterday (deep sigh).

What's Wrong with this Picture??

The stamp in the image below was on a piece of mail that we received today. So what is wrong with the picture?? Feel free to comment if you spot it!

Lets just say that right now I am not very impressed with New Zealand Post.

Bright Buoy

Today was a tough one! Worked at intermediate school (ie: middle school) and one of the students was amazingly awful!

Worse, I have to go back tomorrow. Suffice it to say that tomorrow will be my last time in that class unless that student leaves. I don't get paid enough to have to put up with this kind of stuff.

The above is called "Bright Buoy". It was created on the weekend and I liked the wrinkled ripple effect.

Psychedelic Compass

Lost?? The compass below glows in the dark!

Busy day today. Busy day tomorrow. Life is great!
