Coming Ready or Not - 2006

The New Year is coming. Am totally ready for it. Have got diaries and everything!

The orange one is from 2005. Lime Green and Red one are for 2006. Yes people, I keep not one but two diaires. One stays with me and one stays home so mom (aka my secretary) can make appointments with clients as needed.

Hope you all have a great 2006.

Today's Gratitude Item: 72% Cocoa Bittersweet Chocolate (Whittakers). More bitter than sweet. Need I say more??

When the leaves turn to gold and summer dies, we savour each moment before winter sets in and are richer for it.

Today's gratitude item: Am grateful for time to relax and literally do nothing! It is wonderful not to need to worry about working, tutoring and traffic. The lovely weather we are having makes "down time" even more special.

Autumn Leaf

Its not Autumn over here - not even close! Which makes me wonder why my computer is generating "Autumn" pictures. Clearly it has a mind of its own.

Today's Gratitude Item: Am grateful for the freedom to go where I want, when I want. Am especially grateful that my dad cleans my car for me :)

Portal to Paradise

Wouldn't it be nice
to go to paradise?
A portal is what you need
and some luck to succeed.

Today's Gratitude Item: Am grateful for the 2006 lime green diary that I acquired today at a 25% discount. Good things come to those who wait. Said diary has a pithy little quote at the bottom of most pages (Mon - Fri) and it has a good "feel" to it. Needless to say, both my parents hate the colour. For some reason, this makes me love it all the more.

The Grinch

Presenting the Grinch. This little critter will steal Christmas if you don't look out. Or maybe he already has. Better celebrate Chanukah instead!

Today I am grateful that the library will be open tomorrow. Have had two rather tough days! Lets just day that I discovered that Robert Silverberg's novels don't hold my attention particularly well at the moment and I have run out of "interesting" books to read. Can't wait to get some decent reading material tomorrow.

Chanukah Sameach II

Had so much fun with yesterday's Chunukah graphic, that I decided to post a second one. Technically there should only be three candles this evening (two + the shamas) but decided that I could get away with a "blaze of glory".

Today I am thankful for the peace and quiet that is Auckland after Christmas. A break from the past month's insanity is most welcome.

Chanukah Sameach

Chanukah if finally here!! Below is a graphic created with POV-Ray specially for this occasion. All you need to know about Chanukah can be found at aish dot com's Chanukah page.

Today I am grateful for our super large umbrella. Dad and I took it with us on our walk today, so of course it did not rain :) Turns out umbrellas are good for keeping away rain, snakes, bears and a whole lot of other nasties.

Amethyst Way

A long time ago, in a land far away
A traveller embarked on Amethyst way.

I am grateful that I got to have lunch with my brother and his lovely wife today. Had a lovely time. Food was good too :)

Coloured Comfort

If you could see comfort, it might just look like this.

Today I am grateful that I am Jewish and don't need to worry about Christmas shopping. It is wonderful to just be able to enjoy the holidays without the stress.

Thursday, December 22, 2005

The one below was created with POV-Ray and a larger version is serving as my wallpaper. When my mom saw it, she immediatly said it looks like an alien landing. Which is exactly what it is meant to be.

I am grateful that my dad has 12 days off work which means we are all officially on holiday. Holidays are very very good.

Metal Masque

"Found" this one as part of a larger flame. Zoomed in (a lot) rotated and zoomed in some more to get this picture. Did not tweak or adjust the gradient. This one took about an hour to render at 450 x 450.

Today I a grateful for all the amazing people who come to Wednesday night dance group. Tonight was our last session for the year and it was lovely. We danced, talked and laughed. Being surrounded by friends, good music and lots of warmth is the perfect way to spend an evening.

Slinky Spiral

For all those slinky fans out there. Enjoy!

Today's Gratitude item: I am thankful for the many monarch butterflies that have made our garden their home. Watching them do their thing is a source of joy and never ending fascination.

Kiwi Koru

This one is dedicated to all those Kiwi's out there. Kia Kaha!

Today I am grateful that my student brought me chocolates as a Christmas gift. Even though I don't do the Christmas thing, the gesture was deeply appreciated and the chocolates are one of my favourite kinds. Its really good to be appreciated.

Ocean Bubbles

Deep down in the ocean,
Where even light cannot penetrate,
Something is breathing.

Today I am grateful that I got a new web design client!! Have spent the bulk of the afternoon / evening trying to figure out how to set up a free forum for this client. It has been fun. Pity the forum is not working quite right. Never mind. Am close to getting it sorted.

Blue Jade

Thanks to everyone who commented on my last post!! The graphic below is not as cool as yesterday's image but never mind.

I have a list of stuff to be grateful for today. Here goes...

  • The Chocolate mud cake yesterday tasted as good as it looked.
  • My car headlight was broken, so dad let me use his car last night and he fixed my headlight today (thanks dad!!!)
  • The party last night was really really fun.
  • Went for long walk this evening and did not get rained on.
  • My grandmother is safely on her way back to South Africa after a five and a half week visit with us.

Light Construction

The graphic below is the result of a lot of luck and a little tweaking.

Today I am thankful for a wonderful little chain of stores called "The Cheesecake Shop". The name is a bit of a misnomer as they sell a lot more than cheesecake. I acquired a magnificent Boston Mudcake from them today for the end of year Dance party that I am going to tonight. Lets hope it tastes as good as it looks.

Light Tunnel

Beware of the light at the end of the tunnel. Its probably an oncoming train!

Today I am thankful for the library. It still amazes me that there is a large collection of books that is easily accessible and free to use! The best thing about our library system is that if they don't have it, you can ask them to order it (and they usually will). The next best thing about our library is that the entire catalogue is online, so you can see if they have the book that you want and where exactly it is etc.

Worm Hole

Have been aiming for this effect for a while, then when I was not even trying, it happened. Life is like that sometimes.

Today I am thankful for the Christmas lights that some people have put up around their houses. It makes the summer nights festive and rather special. Even though I don't celebrate Christmas, it is still great to see people making their surroundings beautiful at this time of year.

Petal Plate

The graphic below is either a strange flower or a strange serving dish. Its hard to decide.

Today I am grateful for the amazing weather we have been having. It is lovely to be able to enjoy the sunshine and clear blue skies. Even better than the current weather is knowing that watering the garden is not my problem :)

Holy Smoke

This one was inspired by the cool guys from Pixelhackers.

Today I am super grateful for the diary that my dad bought for me. OK, so for most of you getting a new diary is probably no big deal but this is a "week at a glance" appointment diary where each day has its own column. Suffice it to say, this particular layout is very hard to find and I have been searching for one like this for quite some time. Thanks dad! You really are the best.

Sometimes in life, its the small things that really make a difference.

Toy of the Future?

With Chanukah coming up in two weeks, thought that the graphic below was appropriate. Its not quite a dreidel, but then its not quite Chanukah yet either.

I am grateful that home for me is, and always has been, a Christmas free zone. It is wonderful to be exempt from the craziness that this time of year seems to bring.

Alien Crash

At dawn, the crashed alien craft was discovered on the desert plain.

Today I am grateful that my internet connection is still working. There *might* be problems with it over the next few weeks so if you don't see a new entry everyday, don't worry!

Shabbat Wine

Shabbat Shalom everyone. Graphic below is another POV-Ray creation that took a while (and some tips from the online newsgroup) to produce.

Today I am grateful that my dad fixed the broken stoplight on my car. To prove that no good deed goes unpunished, he accidentally cut himself when he dropped the spent bulb and tried to catch it before it hit the floor (it broke in his hand). Am also grateful for sticking plasters which are incredibly useful for in situations like this.

Cocktails ??

The graphic below was created with POV-Ray. It was an early attempt and I was very surprised at how well it worked. The glasses are made entirely of tori (ie: doughnut shapes).

Today I am thankful that I have a car and the freedom to use it! Being able to travel relatively far distances any time of day (or night) is wonderful. Realised today how much I take the freedom of my car for granted.

Shell Path

This one is dedicated to my mom. She "helped" make it by standing behind me and commenting on my progress as I tweaked. Thanks mom!!

Appropriatly, today (and every day) I am grateful for my mom. She is an awesome, kind, talented and wise woman. I love you mom.

Triple Love

A good graphic is a terrible thing to waste. Have spent the entire day learning more about POV. Having said that, I still have some Apophysis graphics. Below is one that was made a while ago. Good thing that these graphics don't have a "best before" date.

I am very grateful that there is so much cool free stuff on the internet. Am especially thankful for programs like Apophysis and POV-Ray which are well documented and totally free.

Maths Toys

Below is another POV-Ray scene. Lets just say that this wonderful program has allowed me to add a new dimension to my work.

Gratitude item for today?? The opportunity to go for a walk without getting rained on. It was a great way to clear my head after a rather heavy POV session. Did I mention that the learning curve for POV-Ray is almost vertical??

String Spiral

How long is a piece of string? In this case, its infinite!

Today I am grateful for indoor plumbing in general and hot showers in particular. There is nothing quite as wonderful as getting nice and clean after a session of Israeli Dance. Lets just say that when we dance, we don't hold anything back so a long hot shower is something very special.

POV Cliche

Have downloaded a new program which generates three dimensional graphics. Everyone should have a hobby and digital art happens to be mine. Below is my first, rather cliched effort with POV-Ray. It can only get better from here(Hopefully).

Am grateful that POV-Ray was a free download and that it has so much power and potential.

Stirred Steam

The image below was created with Apophysis. It is dedicated to all you coffee lovers out there. Enjoy!

Todays "gratitude item" is easy. TGIF!! Or more specifically, TGIF, school is over for another week and I have time for an afternoon nap.

Sky Smoke

I am grateful for the fact that I am working tomorrow. This "gratitude item" is not very original but having work (and getting paid) is always a good thing. Especially this late in the school year.

The graphic above was created with Apophysis and uses Neil Slater's spiral script.
