Star Web / Kosher Spider

This one was inspired by Ze'ev who suggested making designs incorporating the Star of David. After that, it was easy to come up with the graphic :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to wait to get my hair cut :) There was a long queue at the hair dresser but how it works is that you can leave your name and come back when they are ready. It seems like everyone in line did that and then went to lunch. None of them got back in time so there was a hair dresser who could take me as soon as I turned up. Guess it was my lucky day today!

Blue Membrane

Made with the same params as "Falling Rainbow".

Today's Gratitude Item: That it finally stopped raining! Its nice to be able to go from place to place without getting wet :)

Falling Rainbow

I've run out of words! Just enjoy the graphic.

Today's Gratitude Item: "Old Faithful". In this case, "old faithful" is my trusty umbrella which I have had since childhood. Its the perfect size for one person and has never been blown inside out or been damaged. Pretty amazing really. On a day like today, it really got a "work out".

Dark Sun

I was playing around with Julia fractals trying to make a "cog / clockwork" fractal. It did not work out quite as planned. Never mind.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being warm and dry despite the rain outside. Not exactly an original sentiment, but there you have it.

Korean Flag - Fractal Version

I am particularly pleased with how this one turned out. Its dedicated to all my Korean students!

The fractal design is uses the same params as yesterday's "Blue Worm" piece.

Today's Gratitude Item: That today was way better than yesterday. Even though it involved a 6am start, it was still good. Of course today going better than yesterday does not actually take much!

Blue Worms

Believe it or not, coming up with the title for this one was a bit of a challenge. Eventually my dad named it! Thanks dad :)

Today's Gratitude Item: My dad bought two boxes of Matzos for us. With Pesach literally round the corner, we're getting ready! Because the Jewish population in Auckland is quite small, there are only a few shops which will stock Matzos for Pesach. Getting the stuff is not too difficult, one just needs to plan ahead.

Staring at this one for too long can be hazardous to your health!

Today's Gratitude Item: Some unanticipated free time :)

New Zealand Flag

Flown by proud Kiwis, the world over :)

Today's Gratitude Item: That I live in one of the world's most beautiful countries. It helps that the people over here are generally really friendly as well.

Union Jack

I've been meaning to make one of these for quite some time. Its a useful thing to have, especially as this particular symbol appears on the flags of quite a few countries.

Today's Gratitude Item: Apple fritters! Freshly made and waiting when I got home. Have not had these for ages and am looking forward to it.

Chinese Flag

I'm not Chinese, but I figured out how to make five sided stars in Apo and thought that their flag could do with a touch of "enhancement". Hope nobody objects :)

The Background is Apo too, although it has been blurred / softened beyond recognition.

Today's Gratitude Item: Long lunches and shortened periods. There was some sort of concert at lunchtime today which went into "overtime" ! If I was a regular teacher, this would have been annoying as it cuts into teaching time. As a substitute, its not a problem :)

Gold Star

Wire and Tubes fractal. In this case, the wire in question is made of gold!

Today's Gratitude Item: An easy day at school. The place I was subbing at was in the middle of "test week" which is where all the students write tests in all of their subjects so that they and their teachers can figure out how they are progressing. Its fairly stressful on the students (lots of study) and not too much fun for the staff (lots of marking) but if you are subbing, its easy (just walk around and watch kids write exams). Not exactly the most stimulating activity but it does give one time to think / devise future graphics.

Magen Fire Flower

This wire and tubes fractal turned out well. The "Star of David" is improved by the flower in the middle.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having enough time to get my Yom Ha'atzmaut graphic done. It will feature on this blog later next month. I'm just relieved that the thing has finally been finished!

Winter Warmth

Another textured classic. This one seems just right for Autumn.

Today's Gratitude Item: Those nifty little pre-packed tissues. Lets just say that sometimes they can be very handy indeed.

Green Sea Urchin

As a kid, finding sea urchin shells intact was a big deal. They were only found on some beaches and spotting / collecting them was thrilling.

Today's Gratitude Item: BBQ'd corn on the cob. My friend's husband stood outside in the rain to cook us our lunch which included said corn. It was really good stuff!

Japanese Flag

Dedicated to all of those who live in or have spent time in the Land of the Rising Sun.

Today's Gratitude Item: An extra hour of sleep! The end of daylight saving is actually a good thing :)

Saint Patrick's Day

Here is image #1

and here is image #2. The pot is a recycled fractal, the knot work border was originally drawn by hand and then scanned into the computer. The design is not original, its from a tutorial on drawing "knots".

Today's Gratitude Item: Rainbows. Saw a really lovely one on the way to work this morning. It always amazes me how something so simple like water droplets and sunshine (at and angle of 42 degrees) can make something so beautiful.

Spiral Ceramic / Fire Pot

Fifteen minutes to create, over three hours to render. I have the feeling that on this one , my computer did most of the work :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Field trips! The kind which results in half the class being away and the rest of the class being really quiet and working well. What more could a substitute teacher ask for :)

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

Galactic Glove

It reminded me of a baseball mitt *sort of*.

Today's Gratitude Item: The school where I worked today had a new coffee machine that makes the most amazing mochachinos. I'm back at the same place tomorrow and Friday which is very very good.

Feather Fantasy

Same params as "Beyond Bliss", tweaked a bit and then experimented with the gradient.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being booked for the rest of the week! Things have been too quiet in recent weeks and I was beginning to panic. Now they are "crazy busy" which is something of a relief. At least I'm working again - with a vengeance.

Beyond Bliss

Textured "classic" made with Apo. Saw it, liked it, rendered it.

Today's Gratitude Item: The rain. Yes folks, it seems as if summer is officially over here in Auckland. Today we had some fairly impressive rain with much more forecast for the next 48 hours. Its nice and cool too :)

Odd Ball

My dad and I both agreed that this one was rather "odd". Its the result of experimenting with "wires and tubes" in Apo. The "star of David" symbol in the middle is not as obvious as I would like, but that's just the way it is.

Today's Gratitude Item: Living in New Zealand. To be more precise, living in New Zealand and getting to eat fresh Parmesan cheese! That stuff is simply amazing.

Subtle Star

Another "wires and tubes" creation made from scratch. Turns out that these are quite easy to control and compose. The down side is that render times tend to be quite long.

Today's Gratitude Item: Guilt free napping :)

Friday, March 09, 2007

This is another of those graphics where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Its either a pretty flower or its a bird's eye view of four people holding onto a lamp post.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting my 'flu shot. OK, not exactly the most fun experience but at least its done and hopefully I won't get sick this year. Said shot has worked for me in the past. Its especially important when one is working with lots of different kids and literally cannot afford to get sick (no work = no pay).

Inifinite Hailstone

I get cold just looking at this one :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Good quality clamps. Turns out that these are a great tool when one is trying to rescue / resuscitate "dead" paperbacks. The process is not too difficult, it just takes time, practice and patience. Of course, you could probably say that about most things.

Wednesday, March 07, 2007

Ice-Fire Silk

This is a classic textured Apo piece. Am very pleased with it.

Today's Gratitude Item: The smell of fresh bread! Its one of the best aromas on the planet :)

Tuesday, March 06, 2007

Radioactive Waste

Just because it glows in the dark, doesn't mean its bad for you. Of course its probably not good so be careful!

Today's Gratitude Item: The "undo" and "save" buttons. Especially the "undo" button.

Filigree Ring / Oreo Cookie

Made from scratch in Apo, background done in PSP. At first it looks like a ring or a bracelet, but on closer inspection we realised it was actually an Oreo cookie!

Today's Gratitude Item: A lovely day at school. Its been a while since my last visit to this particular place but the students remembered me and we had a great day.

Sunday, March 04, 2007

Ereve Shabbat / Perfect Plait

Created on "Erev Shabbat" (ie: Friday night). This one reminded me of the plaited bread that is a very special part of the Shabbat experience.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding bits of small change. Found 50c on my morning walk (two 20c coins and one 10c coin) - these three coins were spread very far apart and it is unlikely that someone else was "leaking" small change. So walking this morning was a fun (but weird) experience.

Purim 5767

The name "Purim" means to draw lots, which is a kind of gambling. I got a bit carried away on that theme. This is also the only slot machine that I know of where getting three in a row can cost you $100!

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Tinned spaghetti. Its quick, easy and a whole can has the same calorie value as 2 slices of bread! Unbelievable but true. Its not that I don't enjoy cooking, its just that when life gets busy, its good to be able to whip up something quick and relatively healthy (I added frozen veges & spinach to the spaghetti).

Friday, March 02, 2007

Gossamer Flow

This one reminded me of the moon reflected off the ocean.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to get up early tomorrow!! After two early mornings (6.00am start), its nice not to have to get up before the sun. I have another early start on Monday but its all for a good cause.

Ocean Egg

This is what happens when you take the params from "Ocean Classic" and change it into an Easter Egg! This is the first "egg" that I actually like. The other ones I have made have been missing that "something" factor.

Today's Gratitude Item: An extra hour in the day. One of my students canceled her lesson and whilst I was sad that she was not well, the extra time to exercise / do computer stuff was most welcome. Said student should be recovered by next week.
