As in Ag (gold), Au( silver) bloom (flower).

Today's Gratitude Item: A good trip to Tiri. We had a really awesome guide and got to see Kokako three times during our walk - which is really unusual. Kids had a great time and the weather was perfect.

Frozen Music

This one is another Incendia creation. Like last time, it did not finish rendering (I stopped it after about 5 hours).

Today's Gratitude Item: That my 7th graders did a good job on their fuel burning experiment. For once, everyone listened and did what they were meant to do which meant we finished in record time without any disasters.

Water Rocks

This one was quick to create and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Today's Gratitude Item: The BBC Bitsize website. It has some really brilliant interactive resources that are perfect for my students and absolutely free.

Rough Road

This one was created with Incendia. This program can do some really amazing 3D stuff - provided one has the patience to wait for the renders to finish. I was more than happy with this first attempt.

Today's Gratitude Item: My bed finally arrived :) After almost two weeks of waiting the "new" bed is here. Its quite high off the ground which is rather interesting but it should be brilliant. I'm looking most forward to trying it out.

Fenced In

Of course when the fence in question is pretty, its not so bad.

Today's Gratitude Item: A short week ahead :) The only downside is that I have too much to do and whilst I did not exactly squander today, no school work got done (oops??)

String Fever

This one has a distinctive "Made in New Zealand" feel - after all, sheep are very much a part of the landscape.

Today's Gratitude Item: A 2-for-1 coffee voucher that arrived in the mail yesterday. Said voucher is from a local coffee shop which is on our walking route. My dad always offers me coffee at that point and I always refuse. We've decided that tomorrow, the routine is going to be broken. Even better, the cafe in question has opted not to impose a surcharge tomorrow, even though its a public holiday. Caffeine fix, here we come!

Ice Nets

These nets will catch whatever is thrown at them!

Today's Gratitude Item: That "the batmitzvah" (of a friend's daughter) is over. My mom was heavily involved in the preparation / planning of said event and whilst it was amazing, a day spent with hands in warm (but dirty) water washing up for over 80 people is not my idea of fun. Thankfully there was a steriliser in the kitchen we were using - which made the process straightforward.

Another good thing is that there were lots of people more than willing to help out. This did not prevent my feet from being very sore by the end of the afternoon. If I ever do get married, eloping and avoiding the associated wedding fuss will be a definite possibility.

Ice Patch

The quote seemed apt. Its a pity that patchwork quilts are not generally made of fractals.

Today's Gratitude Item: That its a long weekend. "Labour Day" also feels like something of a misnomer but I'm not about to complain about getting a day off school. I need the break too - last weekend was exhausting and the pace at work is relentless.

Silver Rose Web

Had fun with this one :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to see two Kokako having a water bath when on a field trip to Tiritiri Matangi. This time around, the weather was perfect and we all had a great day.

USA Whorl

This guy plays for the Americans! I know many countries have the colours red, white and blue I always associate those colour with America (and balloons) - go figure!

Today's Gratitude Item: That our dance sound system has been fixed. It was broken before (apparently an issue with loose wires) but its all better now. I'm especially grateful that my dance teacher delivered the system to one of our dancers and it made its way successfully to class.

This guy is in "the zone".

Today's Gratitude Item: Having only one more period with the live rabbits in Science class. Whilst my students love their bunnies, they do tend to waste a lot of time playing with them and it will be great to be able to focus more on classwork once the bunnies have been moved to their new homes.

Blurred Time

Sometimes my days just go past in one long blur.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an extremely early night. I'm totally exhausted after camp so going to sleep early is the only option. Everything on my "to do" list will just have to wait a bit longer to get done.

Indian Flag

Dedicated to all of those who live in or have visited this amazing country.

Today's Gratitude Item: A really great dance camp! Turns out that the entire point of camp is to have fun. Learning new dances is co-incidental to the process. Having a DVD with the dances on it for future reference is great as it means not stressing when the going gets a bit tough.

Stylish Soccer

Yet another wallpaper celebrating the "Beautiful Game".

This blog will be on a break for a few days - I'll be busy with dance camp, which is just as well given my gratitude item below!

Today's Gratitude Item: Free chocolate :) For my birthday, I was given a box of Lindt, Excellence Assortment. Said assortment was meant to contain 25 individually wrapped pieces of chocolate with 5 different flavours. The actual assortment only had 23 pieces of chocolate and was missing the "85% cocoa" flavour all together. So I complained! In fact, I complained both the Lindt who made the chocolate and to K-mart who sold it. K-mart were amazing and very quickly got back to me and arranged for replacement product. I was not expecting them to do anything and only informed them so that they would know what had happened (when I complained, I told them I'd contacted Lindt directly). After all, they could not know that the sealed packed of Lindt chocolate they sold was 2 pieces short. Anyhow, K-Mart did not have any of the Lindt Excellence assortment left, so "Mike", the customer services guy let me choose any chocolate I wanted! Talk about heaven. I went for the Guylian Opus collection and was not disappointed. These chocolates are really lovely and I'm super impressed with K-mart's customer service. I have yet to hear back from Lindt - which is a pity because their chocolate is really good (assuming of course that they give you the 25 pieces advertised on the packet).

Storm Survivor

This one is dedicated to my mom - she is a true "storm survivor".

*Not all storms are of a nautical nature - sometimes this one is to be interpreted figuratively.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the TV in front of the treadmill is working again! Its nice to be able to watch mindless stuff whilst exercising.

Dragon Wave

Needed both dragon and wave for a recent project. I'm pleased with how they turned out.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my going away on a field trip for two days in the coming weeks does not totally mess up what I'd planned to do with my students! I'm looking forward to the field trips too :)

Still Calm

Feeling stressed? Perhaps this one will help restore calm.

Today's Gratitude Item: My demonstration showing students how to neutralise a base using an acid and universal indicator worked perfectly! I was a bit worried about overdoing the acid but happily managed to get it exactly right.

Orca Tail

I took a fair bit of artistic license with this one :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting free, fitted sheets to go with my new bed. Said bed will arrive at some point in the next seven days. Not having to make my own fitted sheets is a nice change from past experiences.

Simchat Torah 5770

This graphic seemed like a good way to celebrate Simchat Torah. Its dedicated to Rabbi Jeremy Lawrence who, a few years ago gave an amazing lecture summarising all 54 portions in the Torah. His mantra "12,11,10,10,11" was a great way to help us to remember how many portions come from each book. Thanks also go to my mom for suggesting the ladder as a way of getting up onto the stairs :)

*There are 47 "stairs" in this image - one for each week of 5770. Some "stairs" contain a double portion. The information was sourced here.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a new bed. And a trip to Wellington for dance camp. And Lindt chocolate (its my birthday tomorrow). I was planning on celebrating my Hebrew birthday this year which falls on the 4th of November by my family seem to prefer my "regular" birthday. Needless to say presents are always great.

Dawn Fabric

May take these two a while to get where they are going.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a bookmark in the mail. Its quite a nice one and given my ability to lose bookmarks, I'm sure it will be used at some point.

Candy Curl

Putting the pig on a pink background seemed to make sense at the time.

Today's Gratitude Item: That its really easy to make your own "Play Dough". We needed said dough for a hands on Science activity so our students can understand how trace fossils are formed. Being able to make the stuff quickly and cheaply is really brilliant.

Ukelele Ball

Dedicated to all of you out there who play this rather funky instrument. May you have a ball each time you play.

Today's Gratitude Item: That there is a Post Code Finder on the NZ post website. Its super easy to use and is a small reminder of just how far technology has come. I remember the "good old days" when all the postcodes were published in a booklet and it was a lot harder to look up the information. Those days were not actually that good.

Turquoise Pendant

Filed in the "If only they could actually make this" category.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the coffee machine at school was working again. Yesterday we suffered a power outage meaning no morning coffee. Today all was once again right with the world.

Lava Stairs

This one is a variant on "Spiky Tide". This is one of the few time in life where the sequel is actually an improvement on the original.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cute bunnies! Especially the cute bunnies that we get to use with our 10th graders. The kids really love this section of work and bunnies are a great learning / motivational tool. Our students learn how to care for rabbits and we chart the growth of our bunnies for about four weeks. For most, this is the highlight of our "Science Year".

Its a good idea to be cautious when approaching the unknown!

Today's Gratitude Item: Being *almost* ready for school tomorrow. I'm not thrilled about my holiday ending but it is good to have a job :)

Sukkot 5770

Had a bit of fun with this one. If you are wondering what an etrog is, and what it has to do with Sukkot, the Wikipedia Article on the topic might help.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: That Sukkot is such a long festival - giving me plenty of time to post this image :) Technically it should have been posted last night (never mind).

Spring Rose

As in a rose made out of springs. They say that goats will eat just about anything but this might be a bit much to swallow.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being left to my own devices :) We had a "call back" / "planning" day today at work and as I was not needed in various meetings, it was a brilliant opportunity to get a fair bit of planning done. I've still got a massive amount of work to do but managing to make significant progress was encouraging.

Spiky Tide

Was really pleased with how this one turned out. A fair bit of tweaking was involved - but it was worth it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a really lovely, handwritten thank you card for a gift given at the end of last term. Said card was written shortly after gift was given and placed in my pigeon hole. It was a good reminder about meaningful a hand written "thank you" on good old fashioned paper / card can be.
