Infinity Ring

Originally I was not aiming for this "look" but sometimes you need to go with the flow.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making enough money on Shutterstock to get a payout this month. I was not sure that it would happen as things were quite close and traditionally weekend sales are "quiet". Happily, this last Saturday was a big exception to that rule.

Purim Sameach

Lets just say, one day Esther woke up and found herself in a right royal jam. This one is begging to be enjoyed in the very large version - a Yiddish Dictionary may be helpful when going through the nutritional information.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Starting to get organised for Dance camp in October. Flights are booked and accommodation should be sorted shortly.

Heart Break

The envelopes are the result of playing around with an icon tutorial. Sometimes when the news is bad, there's just no way to sugar coat it. Fortunately, this image is not based on real events.

Today's Gratitude Item: Public Domain images found over at Wikipedia.

Ribbon River

I'm not too sure about the marching ladies, but I was running low on clip art.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being back from camp! Camp itself was great and below are some more random gratitude items from the last five days.

  • Getting to camp safely
  • Having a room to myself at camp (no snoring room mate and lots of privacy)
  • Having amazing weather when doing The Crossing.
  • My students were fantastic and made the most of the experience. Nobody did anything that they were not meant to do
  • Getting home from camp safely
  • Finally getting to sleep in my own bed tonight!

Sphere of Influence

I love finding a quote that matches the wallpaper :)

I'm off to school camp early in tomorrow morning, so this blog is going to be a bit quiet for a while. Never fear, I'll be back towards the end of the week. In the meantime, enjoy the image below.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to acquire a polar fleece jacket with zip up buttons - I needed this item for camp and could not get it last week.

Beautiful Path

Sometimes, magic happens. I think this was one of those times.

Today's Gratitude Item: The extreme humidity that has been plaguing us for the past week has finally disappeared. Having a clear, dry (and sunny) day has been really wonderful. Its amazing how much the weather influences one's ability to get stuff done.

Bubble Quilt

After a hard day at play, nothing is better than snuggling down to sleep under a homemade quilt.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being shown exactly where our electronic stash of numeracy resources is at work. Lets just say that we already have loads of amazing resources to use with students and I have not had to create any of them! Having someone else do that kind of work makes a surprisingly pleasant change.

Infinite Style

Another spring experiment. Its quite different to my usual style.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the school where I am have purchased yTeach resources. I have no idea how much these cost but they are very cool - especially for using with my 9th graders. I'll be setting them some classwork / homework from this site soon and it will be interesting to see how they cope.

Triple Ripple

As in three ripples and a kid playing with a hoop.

Today's Gratitude Item: Group memory. That's where various dancers remember parts of a new dance and when the bits are combined, the entire dance can be successfully performed. It happens more often than you'd think.

This one makes sense, even when turned upside down. It would be great as the image on the back of a set of cards.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally learning how to put a computer back together - this was only necessary because of the "hardware" unit that my IT class are currently doing. Its not difficult, but it helps to have a guide who knows what they are doing.

Go Orange

Usually amber means "slow down", but not in this case.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting to catch up with a mate of mine who has been in Auckland all week filming a commercial (which will screen at some point in the UK). This was a very big deal for him as he is not a professional actor (yet??). Only problem is that filming the commercial was pretty intense and very busy so we did not get to spend that long together.

Dusk Pipes

Here's the web, now show me the spider.

Today's Gratitude Item: Lets just say that any day involving learning (or at least being exposed to) seven new Israeli dances is a good day. Even better, I could probably do at least three of said dances without needing to refer to the internet / DVD for help.

Sea Volcano

In my world, this is what an undersea volcano looks like.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the web publishing part of First Class (the software we use at school - long story) to do what it needs to do. My students could not get their web pages to appear in our last session and now I know why.

Logic Balls

If you squint and use your imagination, this one could be made up of ones and zero's - hence the title.

Today's Gratitude Item: A really great dance session. Tonight was extra special as Matti Goldschmitd paid a visit to our group. He taught us three new dances, one of which he choreographed himself. We videoed him teaching said dances so we will be able to relearn them later on (right now, my brain is full of three-dance-mush).

For once, the clip art and the background match perfectly.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a brand new (half price) hiking pole. The original pole that I ordered from Trade-Me* did not materialise which was rather disappointing. Lets just say that I now know more about Trade-Me's complaint procedures than I'd like to. Happily, my dad spotted a pole for half price at Katmandu (an outdoor sports store) and he bought it for me. Which means I'm one step closer to being ready for camp. Now all that I need is to get a refund for the pole ordered from Trade-Me. I'm $16.00 out of pocket on that one but am hoping the situation will be resolved soon.

*Trade-Me is a large on-line auction site here in NZ. I've bought goods on Trade-Me before and this is the first time that I've had a problem.

Spring Flower

As in a flower made up of springs. I'm sure I've used the title before but am not sure where / when.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning how to use CSS to do image rollovers. This means being able to dispense with the javascript that I used to use and should save considerable time (and energy). It also means being able to make my school page (which does not support javascript) look really cool.

Flowing Blue

This one is a result of experimenting with a new style. It came out rather well.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to take heaps of photos at swimming sports today. I'm not sure how the came out but at least I was not bored.

Waiting for the Dawn

This one has been for a run and is waiting for sunrise.

Today's Gratitude Item:Remembering to charge my camera batteries. Said camera will be needed for tomorrow's swimming sports.

People would not mind if real potholes were this pretty

Today's Gratitude Item: Walking twice today. Did a total of 8km (5 miles). The second walk was especially enjoyable as it was nice and cool and I found 20c.

Pipe Dream

Or is that piper's dream?

Today's Gratitude Item: An early morning (6:30am) pilates class at school. It was not as difficult as I feared and being able to do the class before school / work is extremely convenient. Did I mention that the cost of the class is heavily subsidised by the school? Their philosophy seems to be that fit, healthy staff take less time off and are more effective.

Drum Rings

I think she's playing the blues!

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of the rooms in which I teach is going to get a special coating on the glass windows to get rid of the glare. At the moment, our work-around involves some rather awkward blackout curtains which are much better than nothing. One of the major problems with using electronic white boards / projectors is that if the room has not been carefully planned, it is very easy for things to go wrong! Happily the other classrooms that I use do not suffer from this problem.

The cannon took a while to create. It was worth it though.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my IT class really liked the google calendar I created for them which shows what we will be doing, when we will be doing it and what the homework is. I think it appealed to them as they are all hard core technophiles - which is great.

Tangled Web

I think the spider that wove this one was drunk.

Today's Gratitude Item: Old text book boxes. More precisely, old text book boxes that were about to be trashed but were the perfect size for my tutor group's scrap books. This makes carrying / storing said scrap books a lot easier.

Flower Weight

As in there is a flower in that paperweight.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning how to apply a different type of colouring algorithm to fractals made with Fractal Science Kit. Managed to make a rather "different" image which will feature on this blog at some point in the distant future.
