No Mistake

This image was not mistake. Guess I missed out on one of those life lessons :)

Today's Gratitude Item: That Geogebra 5 has been released. Whilst this is still in beta, it allows users to create 3D mathematical models which is a massive step forward. Sadly, the models can't yet be exported successfully to the web but I'm hopeful that this will be supported at some point in the future.

Quiet Ahead

This one was rather soothing, hence the quotation.

Today's Gratitude Item: Lamb kebab for lunch. On the rare occasions when I eat out, its usually Subways or Sushi. Having a delightful lamb kebab was a lovely change.

Hyper Drive

Loved the spiky feel of this one. Only problem is that it is too intense to take text and I worry it won't make good wallpaper (icons won't show up that well on it).

Today's Gratitude Item: No morning traffic. Had to go down South today for a conference and was dreading the traffic. It turns out that during school holidays, the queue to get on to the motorway is non-existent which was wonderful. The only downside was I ended up at my destination an hour before I needed to be there!

Israel NZ

If you look closely you'll see both a Star of David and a bunch of ferns in this one. It looks like its being blown around a bit so the quotation is not completely out of place.

Today's Gratitude Item: Discovering just how easy it is to make forms using google docs and them publish them to webpages. Data from said forms is automatically added to a spreadsheet which is a wonderful thing. The next time I need to create a web form, that is how I'm planning on doing it.

I loved this bit of advice. Its really pragmatic and down to earth.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding most of the Numeracy Project resources on line. This is really useful for when one's print copies are at school - a mere 40 km away (that's one way)!

Lots of Advice

More good advice - sometimes one just has to make a decision and then live with the consequences.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to sleep in on what has been one of the coldest days so far! Its really great not to have to be up at the crack of dawn and extra time in bed is something to be treasured. I suspect that rarity of this particular indulgence makes it all the sweeter.

Always Happy

Its funny how most people put on a "happy face" - even when things are slowly turning to custard.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding dance notation for Liya. There is of course a video of the dance but the third part was giving me trouble and I could not figure out what the dancer was doing as the camera man kept changing the angle. With the notation, its a lot clearer now - which is good as I'm planning on teaching the dance to my group on Wednesday.

Bow Star

This one looks very similar to the kind of bows we use to decorate gifts. For once, the quotation actually matches the image.

Today's Gratitude Item: That when people who don't know me well see my work, they assume that I'm an artist and are surprised that I teach Mathematics.

One fractal, two distinct parts :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting one of the two presentations needed for next week complete. I volunteered to present at a SMART board conference which is next Thurs / Fri. Lets just say that at the time, it seemed like a good idea.

Time Swirl

This one looks like half a flower. Oddly, that is a good thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting all of my "Chag" images for the upcoming holidays completed. These will feature on this blog in due course. I know September seems quite far away - but time has this nasty habit of going really, really fast.

Perfect Storm

Oddly appropriate given the wild weather outside when this one was created (some time ago now). Storms like this are "heaven" to the weather guys and "hell" for everyone else.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to access the motorway on-ramp after dance class tonight. The previous two sessions, said on-ramp was closed for roadworks resulting in lengthy detours which were not much fun. Happily, said road works appear to be over - at least for now. Its funny how easily we take "small" things like easily accessible motorways for granted and only really notice them when they no longer work as they should.

Sea Breeze

The clip art came first and when the fractal appeared, it was a natural match.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a kind soul commented on my "panic" post from last night (which has been removed) telling me that Tisha B'Av is still three weeks away. I misread the information over at Aish and thought that I had missed the holiday. Needless to say, the image I posted yesterday which has been replaced with the wallpaper above will re-appear in three weeks time.

Hooked Feathers

This is the ultimate combination of traditional fly fishing (with feathers) and a Maori fish-hook.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting new stockings that were surprisingly cheap. Said hosiery is perfect for keeping the cold at bay - which has to be a good thing.

Calm Koru

Like "Sea Breeze" (which will appear on this blog in due course), the clip art preceded the background. It took a while to create the design.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to get up crazy early tomorrow. Right now, life is good.

Time Winds

This one reminded me of trees being blown in the wind.

Today's Gratitude Item: That finally, after two very long weeks (and countless wasted hours), my dad's computer is successfully connected to our network. This means he can now access secure sites with ease. In the end, the problem was with some of our ancient equipment. Ironically, dad's computer was too new to work with our old switch and modem. These have been replaced with the added bonus that the internet is now working much faster for me as well :)

Am disappointed with the gradient of this one. The form is OK but no matter what combination of colours I tried, it still does not look great.

Today's Gratitude Item: Holidays are finally here :) :) :)

Bitter Sweet

The quotation is one of my favourites. Its all too easy to forget that too much sweetness can be a bad thing (unless you are a dentist).

Today's Gratitude Item: Friday is coming - and best of all, the end of school tomorrow will be the start of a two week break. Its been an arduous term and this day has been a long time coming.

Good Place

This seems like a good place to visit. Not sure about the living conditions though.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting through parent interviews. As always, it was a worthwhile but exhausting process.

Farewell Greeting

This is just one of those images which "worked". It was a joy to create.

Today's Gratitude Item: Poetic justice. I've been having trouble with a client (soon to be ex-client) who has been slow in paying their bills. In order to ensure payment, I've been holding on to some information they need and they have been, understandably keen to get this released. Unfortunately, they seem to make quite a few mistakes, the latest of which is copying their new web designer into their response to my latest request for payment. It made me laugh as now the "new guys" get to see that the client they just landed is slow to pay up. Some people really should go easy on the Cc button. Apparently payment will be forthcoming in the near future.

True Star

This one looked good on a white background - which was somewhat surprising.

Today's Gratitude Item: Our after-school meeting was cancelled :) That means getting home earlier than would normally be the case. It does not happen often, but when it does, its cause for a small celebration.

Bitter Smile

If this was an apple, I would not bite in to it!

Today's Gratitude Item: That installing google chrome on my dad's new computer allowed him to access secure sites. For some weird reason neither Firefox (latest version 5.0 and previous version 4.0) nor IE (version 8) would co-operate. Lets just say that after spending several fruitless hours trying to fix dad's machine, Chrome came to the rescue and dad is happy with the work around. I'd be happier if I could understand what the problem with IE / Firefox is. Googling for a solution thus far has been an exercise in futility.

Mom's Star

Dedicated to my mom :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Metro Magazine. To be more specific, getting hold of some old issues of said magazine for the princely sum of 50c each. I needed some good quality images for a paper weaving activity that I'm doing with one of my classes next week and the content of Metro was perfect for this.

Don't Hesitate

Although some hesitation on publishing this one may have been the wise. Its far too bright for my liking.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally made it to the weekend! Am in desperate need of a break.

Good and Bad

This one is more good than bad. In fact, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the end is in sight! We have one more week of term and most of my classes have sat their assessments. The only downside is that my stack of papers to be marked is getting depressingly large.

Upright Living

This one was simple but striking - so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting another enhanced sale over at Shutterstock. I had one on the last day of last month and having another so soon after the last one was a very pleasant surprise.

Petty Diamonds

Named for the quotation and the diamond pattern. Was remarkably easy to generate this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the end is in sight when it comes to internal assessments - at least for the moment. My 12th graders are just about ready to write their actual paper which is great because the thought of marking more practice tasks for them is not a pleasant one. On the up side, they have done so much practice that most of them know exactly what to do. The only ones who will struggle are those who have not been attending class regularly.

Linked Chain

Do bigger links make stronger chains?

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding out that instead of having to set new assessments for our junior classes later in the year, I will be able to base their exam on papers we are buying. This means that my job will be to to play with the formatting and check that the questions are suitable - something that is much quicker (and easier) than having to make start from scratch.

A Struggle

Like life, this one was a bit of a struggle. Getting the background "just right' was not easy task.

Today's Gratitude Item: The pizza bases that I made today worked really well :) Its always good when baking turns out well.

Eye Piece

This one has been heavily post processed. I saw the "eye" shape in the original fractal and then spent ages finding a suitably creepy orange gradient.

Today's Gratitude Item: The random number generator on my calculator. It makes it super easy to scramble up material when creating worksheets for students to unscramble :)

Anyone Listning?

Sometimes you've got to ask the question.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to use the guillotine at work to cut perfectly square paper. I'm using old magazines / financial reports to make origami paper for my 8th graders for next week. It should be fun :)
