Santa's Watching!

And he has a bunch of spare eyes to help with the job. I know it's not the season but over here, it's almost winter and winter = Santa Claus :)

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting XAMPP go successfully run off a memory stick. It was much easier than anticipated and is something my students will be able to do with minimum fuss.

Chain Flower

The texture is OK - the colour (or more precisely lack thereof) is not.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finding a 'work around' so that I can at least view my photo stream "the old way" in flickr. Every since "the change" on the 20th May, updating this blog has been 'complicated'. The process is now almost 'back to normal'.

Oh No!

I'm really sorry. This just happened! It should be filed in the "what was she thinking" box. Especially as I don't celebrate Christmas. I'm so ashamed :(

Today's Gratitude Item: Being told by a student that I "changed her life" by showing her apophysis. She is an artist in her own right and was very excited about the possibilities. It will be interesting to see what she produces. Of course English is not her first language so I might have misunderstood ...

String Flower

Colours required extra tweaking after the fact. Note to self: make sure colours look good before rendering! This saves time in the long run.

Today's Gratitude Item: A warm bed on a very cold night. Walking on the treadmill was a fun experience - whilst it kept me warm, the amount of 'fog' generated on the various windows in the room was truly alarming.

Infinite Unravelling

Finally something that turned out well (pardon the pun).

Today's Gratitude Item: That there were not too many additions / changes needed for the publication that I laid out over the weekend. This might have something to do with the fact that the editor of said publication was in a rush to get somewhere else...

Down the Well

This is what is on the other side of the wishing well!

Today's Gratitude Item: Having enough time to get most of the things on my weekend list done. It helps that school work did not feature on said list. After the stresses / strains of the past three weeks I decided that 'enough was enough' and took a bit of a break.

Infinite 8

Was really happy with this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my cold is mostly gone. Am relieved to be feeling *almost* 100%.

Whacky Wave

Let's just say this one was full of surprises.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realisinig that it is relatively easy to back up my 'stuff' on Flickr. I'll be trying this app in the near future. Looks like I'm not the only one at least backing content up. The widespread 'disappointment' with the new Flickr layout has members fleeing in droves.

Ripple Knitting

Quick and easy - even though it does not look it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Lip balm and a plentiful supply of tissues. Whilst I have a cold at least I can be relatively miserable in comfort.

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

The clip art on this one is a bit of a blast from the past.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting home from dance before the heavens opened. Was inside for less than a minute when the deluge hit. Would not have wanted to be 'out' driving in that.

Crazy Stairs

Was playing with 3D effects in Apophysis. This one makes me slightly nauseous.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I'm not the only one who hates the "new" flickr. They have made some massive, unwelcome changes. Within 12 hours, there were almost 8,000 posts to the feedback thread on the Help forum. Most of them were very negative. If only they would change it back...

Blue Chess

Thank goodness for the "snap to guide" property in PaintShop Pro. Without it, creating this one would have been really tough.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making some progress on my 'marking mountain' - this has been hampered by the fact that despite last week's disastrous 're-image' of my work computer, the 'medium' sized problem that lead to the 're-image' has still not been solved. To cut a tedious story short, even doing simple things on my work computer from home is now a long, difficult process. Here's hoping that my continual emails to the ICT department have some effect (and soon). The only good thing about this entire mess is that until the issue is fixed, I have an excellent excuse for missing key deadlines.

Eye Spy

Background to this one worked better than expected.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the kid's dance class I taught today as part of a 6 week elective at the local Hebrew School went really well. Everyone gave it a good go and seemed to have fun. Some of the girls were particularly enthusiastic and I'm hoping they will encourage their mothers to come to my 'Adult' class on Wednesdays.

Spring Spot

This was appropriate when it was created some time ago. Back then we were moving towards the end of spring and into summer (at least in my part of the world).

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally catching up on some sleep! Being exhausted is not fun. It's a pity that my 'work mountain' seems to be getting worse rather than better...

Heat Exchange

This one is a variation on a theme.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting my computer back from the technicians. They had to put on the software that they removed when they re-imaged my machine (long story). Whilst it's still a case of 'two steps forward, one step back' at least some progress is being made. Needless to say have learned a lot from this week's disasters so it's not a total loss.

Blogversary - 9 Years Old Today

This blog is currently celebrating it's 9th birthday (cake should probably be involved at some point).

Today's fractal features an ocean made up of springs. The title of the image is "Spring Tide".

Today's Gratitude Item: That this blog is still going. I can't quite believe how quickly time flies.

Metal Wool

Would be fun to weave a real life pattern with this stuff. It's a pity that the wool is only available in electronic form.

Today's Gratitude Item: Caring support staff. Today was very rough and a small act of kindness from our Office lady helped me get through it. Let's just say that my computer problem which was "medium" was made "massive" by our IT guy who re-imaged my machine without asking first. In this case, re-imaging was the 'lazy' way out. It fixed the "medium" problem but made things so much worse - some of my data may be 'unrecoverable' and getting things back to 'normal' will take time that I can ill afford. It's a bit like when an operation is successful but the patient dies.

5773 Shavuot

The fact that it is traditional to eat foods like cheesecake on Shavuot, made this image spring to mind.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to learn / review two dances from camp so far (the camp DVD is a wonderful thing). If only I had less work and more time...

Pregnant Pause

Named for the tell tale bulge.

Today's Gratitude Item: That most of my students submitted their database assignments or asked for an extension. I was quite worried about this and at least most have given me something to mark. Hopefully their efforts will be sufficient.

Hot Beads on String

Designed to spice up your desktop.

Today's Gratitude Item: An amazing weekend at Machol Pacifica dance camp (in Wellington). Shmulik Gov-Ari was our guest choreographer and he was awesome! It was great to reconnect with old friends and "learn" a bunch of beautiful new dances. It was a too short holiday at the start of a busy term. Now all I need to do is re-learn the dances (so that I can teach them to my group) and catch up on some sleep.

Curve Stitched....

On steroids!

Today's Gratitude Item: Funny stuff that makes one laugh out loud. Whilst "The Oatmeal" can often be embarrassingly crude, every so often he's funny and writes something that can be shared in *semi* polite company.

Beads 'n String

I'm not too sure about the colours on this one - they seem a bit 'washed out'.

Today's Gratitude Item: This one is a bit mixed. It rained today so cross country was cancelled and my much anticipated free coffee did not eventuate. On the plus side, the event has been rescheduled for Friday and I won't be at school which means not having to cope with further disruption. I've left work for my students and they all know what they need to do and when it needs to be done by. Interestingly, senior management decided to make Cross Country 'compulsory' for all students (the kids could choose to walk it if they wanted to, so running the course was not a requirement). Sounds good? Not so much - the kids voted with their feet on this one and stayed away in droves. It made for very quiet classes today which was a nice change.

Fall Flower

Named for the orange / red colours. Happily this one does not involve any raking up of leaves.

Today's Gratitude Item: The prospect of free coffee tomorrow. We have cross country in the afternoon and the whole school is 'out' for this event. The sports office have organised free coffee for all the staff in exchange for our involvement.

Grasping Infinity

Getting the background took a fair bit of precision.

Today's Gratitude Item: A sign I designed for school is now on display. Said sign points the way to "Reception" and it is HUGE. The background is a fractal that I created quite some time ago and the sign looks really good. It's deeply satisfying to "make one's mark" on a place.

String City

If you look closely at the centre 'panel', you can just about make out the sky scrapers.

Today's Gratitude Item: Home-made vanilla essence (vanilla pods + vodka + time). This tastes completely different from the 'fake' stuff that we used to use and is very, very nice as an ice cream flavouring. Turns out that in this case - less really is more.

Saturday, May 04, 2013

WaveNet 3.0

I've made this sort of thing before - so this is an 'upgrade' rather than something new.

Today's Gratitude Item: That this time next week I'll be dancing! Dance Camp is six short days away and I can't wait.

Friday, May 03, 2013

Twisted Flame

The title really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: Spurts of creativity. Despite spending most of my "holiday" doing school work, Apophysis has been remarkably co-operative. The resulting fractals have provided some much needed 'stress relief'.

Thursday, May 02, 2013

Precious Wire

Not only is this wire an unusual colour, it's woven together into a diamond.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making at least some progress on my marking and planning. At this point, I'm celebrating the small victories and trying not to feel overwhelmed by the prospect of returning to school on Monday.

Wednesday, May 01, 2013

Ripple Star

The colours on this one are a bit subdued for my taste. It's a real pity that this one does not 'pop'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Bagels which did not 'flop' / fall back on themselves and plenty of hungry dancers to enjoy said bagels.
