Math "geeks" will know that the "^2" is another way of writing squared. It seemed like a logical name given that this spiral is made up of heaps of tiny little squares.

Today's Gratitude Item: Convincing some of my students that it is a good idea to come in at lunch and complete an overdue assessment. I live in hope that they will get the work done and pass (this is by no means a sure thing)...

Bright Flower

This is neither an original name nor a particularly original design. It turns out that there is such a thing as "too bright".

Today's Gratitude Item: Surprise sushi (for dinner) - sometimes that which is unexpected can be really good.

Balloon World

Here, balloons are made out of string.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being appreciated - especially when that appreciation takes the form of something tangible.

Sounds Good

Reminded me of sound waves for some reason...

Today's Gratitude Item: No interruptions. It's amazing how much one can achieve when left to one's own devices.

Loop de Loop

The title really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: Two walks, $2.50 - fitness and small change in one convenient package. Total distance travelled around 9km.

Friday, July 26, 2013

Flickr mentioned they'd be down for planned maintenance but I sort of forgot about it and did not plan ahead. With any luck, I'll be able to post wallpaper images again after Shabbat.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to successfully validate phone numbers and email addresses using php. It was not as hard as feared.

Let Ripple 2.0

When I tried to save this one as "Let Ripple", apophysis told me I'd already made something with that name. This is the upgraded version.

Today's Gratitude Item: Apophysis inspiration. Had a good "fractal creating" day. Managed to get a fair bit of school work done too. It's a pity that the pile of stuff yet to be done remains insurmountable.

Fabric Ocean

This is similar to previous works but I liked the design so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a potential client hunted me down and emailed through an enquiry. They liked my work on Shutterstock but wanted something custom made - so they got in touch.

Wire Cross in Motion

This give new meaning to the phrase "positive spin". If it was broken and I fixed it, that would, of course, make me a "spin doctor".

Today's Gratitude Item: Remembering to make bread dough tonight. Said dough will 'cold rise' while I sleep to be transformed into delicious dance treats tomorrow morning. Making dough 'the night before' makes the entire process a lot more pleasurable.

Repeating Forever

As in there is an infinity symbol in there - complete with ripples.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finishing my "Chag" images for the upcoming holiday season. This took longer than anticipated - especially as I decided to revisit my 'original' Simchat Torah image and improve it. Am pleased that the job is finally done.

Go With the Flow

No fancy background / clip-art required. Perhaps this one should have been called "Fabric Ocean".

Today's Gratitude Item: That I still have a week of holidays left to go. I knew the time would pass all too quickly and am grateful for every 'spare' moment.

Universal Curvature

This one is a variation on a theme. Took a while to get it "just right".

Today's Gratitude Item: Time alone. Pity there is never enough of this precious commodity.

Friday, July 19, 2013

It turns out that 'too complicated' is not good. I have a horrible feeling that this one falls into that category.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the reference photos I took of some apples worked came out well. Said apples were bought specifically for this year's Rosh HaShana image which is in the process of being created. Turns out that it's quicker and easier to buy (and photograph) fruit than to find public domain images which are 'just right' on the Internet. The added advantage to this strategy is that I can sell any images made from my photos on Shutterstock (and of course the apples can be eaten at some point in the near future).

Extreme Weave

Another complex one. Let's just say that this one was 'challenging'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning how to use 'envelopes' to distort raster images in illustrator. Needless to say, this little 'trick' is incredibly useful.

Tall Wall

Clip-art took a while to create. The devil really is in the detail.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time to review a 'new' (ie: 'learned' at camp) dance and managing to successfully teach it to my group. It helped that said dance was easy, modern and fun.

Fall seeds

As in it the small spheres reminded me of seeds. I wonder where they will fall...

Today's Gratitude Item: Progress. Have finally managed to get my marking under control and had time to do some 'creative' stuff. Right now, life is good.

Tisha B'Av 5773

Commemorating Tisha B'Av.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Being mostly warm on what has been a rather chilly day. Not having to get up before sunrise helped.

Bead Curtain

It's a bit dark for my taste. Was something of a struggle to get this one to 'work'.

Today's Gratitude Item: That someone else filled up my car! It does not get much better than that.

Crazy Mosaic

This one was partially accidental.

Today's Gratitude Item: A night out. Enjoyed seeing Roger Hall's play, "Taking Off". Even better is not having to worry about getting up early in the morning :)

Opening Out

It's either a flower or a futuristic "nuclear zone" symbol.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to stop following a blog. Said blog appears to have become the victim of a spammer and it was clogging up my reading list with random 'rubbish'.

Texture + Movement = This!

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to 'remove' people from a group that I administer on Flickr. One of our members (or should I say ex-members) kept putting images not created with Apophysis in the Apophysis pool. Getting rid of them and the offending art was deeply satisfying.

Forever Mosaic

As in it combines diamonds (which are forever) with a mosaic pattern.

Today's Gratitude Item: That I don't teach juniors and did not need to suffer through a night of parent / teacher interviews. I don't mind meeting parents and discussing student progress. I do mind that it interferes with my dance group, there is inadequate lighting and most of all, inadequate heating.

Great Rift

Riding the Sedge-way through this one might be a bit of a 'big ask'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting most of my planning for next term done. Let's put it this way, the old design adage "Fast, Cheap, Good - choose two" fits this situation perfectly. I don't get paid enough and senior management want it quickly... (as in it's due on Thursday).

Soothing Ripples

Sometimes images are pretty much perfect and any clip-art / added background would only detract from the work. Clearly, this was one of those times.

Today's Gratitude Item: My Rabbi described one of my artworks as 'harrowing'. This is a good thing because the piece concerned was to commemorate Tisha B'Av (said piece will feature on this blog in due course).

Sunday, July 07, 2013

Spring Seed

Reminded me of poppy seeds for some reason.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a clean car. Said car is now white again rather than an embarrassingly grubby shade of grey.

Saturday, July 06, 2013

Woven Gold

This is where Santa goes to get the gold ornaments for his tree. Why the 'Santa' themed clip-art in July? Don't ask!

Today's Gratitude Item: A really good John Grisham Book. Reading a gripping novel made a pleasant change from the week's drudgery.

Friday, July 05, 2013

Hill Harvest

Named for the hill formation and green / gold 'harvest' colours.

Today's Gratitude Item: Only one more week of school to go! Here's hoping we all get through with sanity *mostly* intact.

Thursday, July 04, 2013

Dragon Curve

Use your imagination and the curved stuff could be dragon skin. Quite a lot of imagination (and perhaps a bit of squinting) might be required.

Today's Gratitude Item: Very useful "Professional Development". Such opportunities are few and far between and it was great to be able to talk with colleagues and get some valuable information on "Best Practice" when it comes to some of the newer assessments that we are doing.

Wednesday, July 03, 2013

Turbulent Sunflower

This is what happens when you mix waves with sunflowers.

Today's Gratitude Item: That green beans 'work' in a toasted cheese sandwich. Would never have thought to try green beans and cheese for my lunch but we ran out of "sandwich greens". It turns out that necessity really is the mother of invention.

Tuesday, July 02, 2013

Golden Glow

Had fun with this one - possibly because it is a bit unusual.

Today's Gratitude Item: Motivated students. All too many of my students are not motivated / hard working but I have one great class who are doing really well and appear to be enjoying the work. We are currently incorporating a database into a simple website using Xampp and there is a lot of progress being made.

Bright Flower

An easy one to create. Was really pleased with the intense purple / gold colour combination.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being in good company. Let's just say that I'm not the only one feeling grumpy / overwhelmed with the massive workload at school. Sometimes not being 'alone' when things are 'difficult' is all that one needs to get through it.
