Bird's Eye Brolly

As in what a bird might see if there was an oversize umbrella directly beneath it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting some much-needed 'time out'. Reading a gripping novel (The Unlikely Spy) was an added bonus.

Spinning Paint

If you pick up a fractal and throw it around the room, this is what happens.

Today's Gratitude Item: That getting student database / website assessments onto my machine for marking is not as difficult as first feared. The process is a bit complicated but I tested it today and it worked perfectly.

Three Quarter Vision

Suffice it to say this one was post processed. A lot.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting chocolate at school. I won it at the start of the week (long story) and it's sitting in my desk draw at school because I forgot to bring it home - which is a pity because said chocolate is 'the good stuff'. Will have to remedy this situation tomorrow.

Bored? Try Checkers

With an added twist of course.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding out how to install fonts onto my school computer. Whilst this sounds easy, mere teachers cannot access C:/ drive on their computers which makes putting things into the 'font' folder a bit tricky. Unless of course someone is kind enough to tell you to use the "Fonts" folder via the control panel instead.

Winter Wonder

In my world, fractal snow flakes are the gift that keeps on giving.

Today's Gratitude Item: Cellphones - some days I wonder how we ever survived without them.

Casual Cascade

This one is similar to previous works. That happens sometimes.

Today's Gratitude Item: Hot chocolate at our curriculum meeting - being in the Technology department is great because more often than not, we get really yummy free food.

It's not exactly a tidal wave, but it's close.

Today's Gratitude Item: *Probably* having enough people to make dance this coming week viable. Quite a few of my 'regulars' had told me that they could not make it. Fortunately, we might just have enough people 'opt in' to be able to have a session. In my view, anything less than 6 dancers in the group is too awkward.

Darkness Breaking

You've heard about "dawn breaking", this one is the opposite.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting most of a rather large layout job basically completed. Laying out publications is like doing a massive jigsaw - without the picture. Fun, fun, fun.

Right Passage

As in this one reminded me of a sophisticated corridor.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting some crucial tasks done. "Teacher Only Day" was great :)

Tidal Stars

Ever wonder what would happen if the stars fell into the ocean? It probably wouldn't look like this.

Today's Gratitude Item: That tomorrow is "Teacher Only Day" - I think we enjoy these days *almost* as much as our students (who don't have to come to school).

Lots of Stars

Look carefully and you'll see more small stars in the grayscale background.

Today's Gratitude Item: That our 'mini-pizza' experiment worked brilliantly. Suffice it to say, this new post-dance snack was a resounding success.

Stringy Sky

Complete with a blue, fractal moon.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my car-pool buddy rescued me from a dreary after school meeting. These gathering tend to go on a bit and it was a relief to have a good reason to quietly leave.

Pixelated Test Pattern

This one did not turn out quite as well as hoped. Never mind. At least it is 'ordinary' rather than 'horrible'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting home at a reasonable hour. This could have something to do with having the gumption to walk out of a PD session half-way through. Said session was a complete waste of time in that the information being 'shared' was neither new nor useful. You'd think that when over half the staff did not sign up for the workshops within a given time frame, senior management would have taken the hint...

Ribbon Sphere

Presenting the ultimate in screen decoration.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting to read the Mythical Man Month. It's a series of fascinating essays about project management / software development and even though it was written well over 20 years ago, much of it rings true.

Ribbon Pillow

On a suitably matching fabric background

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time for an afternoon nap today. The fact that it was raining at time of said nap only added to the experience :)

A Blog with 3,000 Posts...

Starts with a single entry.

Today's Gratitude Item: That this is post #3,000 on my blog. Gotta love those significant milestones.

Ribbon River

Is this one 'nice' or 'boring'? Can't decide, perhaps it is nice and boring!

Today's Gratitude Item: That my artwork was used in the Luach put out by the Auckland Hebrew Congregation. They asked for my permission (which is always a good thing) and all of the images in the publication are 'mine'. Seeing the work get a wider audience really made my day.

Fractal Wilderness

I wonder if there is anything growing down there?

Today's Gratitude Item: Tasting food prepared by some of our senior students as part of their course. We are having a 'Technology Showcase' at school and the students doing the Hospitality course get to provide the food. At lunch we had 20 different finger-food options to taste and we had to vote on our favourites (which will then be served to the 'Showcase' visitors). The process was fun and exciting. It was great to see the students really passionate about their various creations and the quality of the food they produced was really impressive. Needless to say everyone was really full after the experience.

Fall Flower

Dying leaves can be pretty, especially when they are made into fractal flowers.

Today's Gratitude Item: That our senior options evening went well. It was surprisingly busy and I had a lot of kids coming around and asking questions about the courses that I teach. The only downside is the fact that I was on campus from 7:30am until 8:00pm (and they did not give us dinner - not cool).

Bamboo Diamond

The background was a nice surprise. It reminded me of bamboo. Hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: Edamame Beans - my new favourite snack.

Gold Rosette

Not good, not bad. Just ordinary.

Today's Gratitude Item: FileZilla. Needed to upload something for school onto my server and did not have an ftp client on my work machine. Downloaded and installed FileZilla - problem solved.

Pretty Puddle

Took a ridiculously long time to get the pattern (and background).

Today's Gratitude Item: Going out, finding the venue for tonight's event and most importantly, getting back safely. The fact the music system was able to connect to my Android after all (rather than being limited to CD's / tapes) was a nice bonus.

Copper Luck

If you look closely, you'll see the *copper* four leaf clover in this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being reasonably up-to-date work wise. It's been a crazy week and getting to Friday with a relatively small 'to do' list is something of a relief.

Complicated Pipes

In a fractal world, nothing is simple.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a fellow dancer come to the rescue. We have an event on Saturday and the organisers are quite 'old school'. So much so that they want the music on CD's which is problematic when one does not have any writeable CD's handy and one does not even own a CD player (everything is on the Android). Fortunately one of the other group leaders has the music and is able to burn it to a CD for the occasion. Needless to say, it would be a lot better if the organisers joined the rest of us in the 21st century.

Thorny Situation

The title really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that it is very easy to 'split screen' in notepad++. Basically this lets me work on two bits of code side by side within the editor and is very convenient for comparing material and editing .css alongside .html.

Tuesday, August 06, 2013

Blue Rosette

I revisited some old parameters and was surprised when this woven entity emerged.

Today's Gratitude Item: That getting the school 'options' information on line might *just* be possible within a ridiculously short deadline. We have to go 'live' next Tuesday. I was asked to do the project on Friday. All I can say is <copy> and <paste> are my new best friends.

Monday, August 05, 2013

Orange Stare

This one reminds me of an eyeball - but in a good way.

Today's Gratitude Item: Terminator 2 reruns + treadmill. This evening's walk was more enjoyable than usual. They just don't make movies like they used to. The best thing was that I know how the movie ends so only watched the first hour :)

Sunday, August 04, 2013

Name derived from the fact that the sphere features a multitude of tiny squares.

Today's Gratitude Item: New *bright pink* walking shoes (on special). Noticing that the old pair had quite a large hole in the bottom before it rained was an added bonus. Usually holes only come to light when it's wet and one steps in a puddle.

Sharp Silence

Let's just say bagpipe music is really distinctive. If it was translated into a fractal, it might look like this.

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of my clients has asked me to produce a brochure for a festival that they have every year. The good thing is that said festival has been scheduled for March next year (rather than November) which means not having to get the work done in the midst of a busy teaching term.

Simple Circle...

... made complicated.

Today's Gratitude Item: Really yummy roast vegetable quiche for morning tea :)

Silent Soundtrack

This one should have really melodramatic music playing in the background. Sadly, it doesn't so the 'soundtrack' is silent.

Today's Gratitude Item: The 'new' series of "The Big Bang" theory. It's 'new' as in I have not seen these episodes before and it was great to finally be able to enjoy some decent television.
