Lighth Fern

Similar to my other efforts but I liked it - and decided it was worth rendering.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making significant in-roads into my massive marking pile. It was not fun but at least I have the sense that the day was not wasted.

Winter Weave

Found something 'OK' and then zoomed in. A lot!

Today's Gratitude Item: That this week's programming assignment was easier than expected. It's nice when that happens.

Ice Fern

Probably a bit busy for a desktop wallpaper but I really liked the form of this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Double checking something with a student. Let's just say that having that conversation avoided a rather large mistake being made.

Silver Fern

A variation on a theme which turned out much better than expected.

Today's Gratitude Item: Caller ID. It means being able to screen cold calls which is good. Funnily enough the cold callers never manage to leave a message...

Gold Fern

On a membrane / parchment background. This is 100% pure Apophysis (transparent .png with white background).

Today's Gratitude Item: Making progress on some planning for next year.

Monday, August 25, 2014

Pink Geometrix

As far as fractals go, this one would be considered plain and simple.

Today's Gratitude Item: That staff training this afternoon went well. So far the feedback has been really positive with most staff being willing to 'give things a go'. Of course the more 'reluctant' staff were not at said training so the sample is a bit skewed.

Patchwork Mosaic

Not exactly inspiring but not bad enough to 'bin'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a good eBook to read. Our local library has limited services at the moment due to some renovation work which is currently under way - happily getting hold of reading material is simple when one has an iPad / eReader and access to the library's on-line collection.

Working Grid

Dedicated to all those people who appreciate Geometric designs.

Today's Gratitude Item: Help drafting a tricky email. And when I say "help", I mean my dad drafted the email for me! Normally writing emails to clients is not a big deal but this time, expert help was needed.

Wave Weave

Perhaps this one should have been called 'ordered turbulence'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding out that the new course I'm running at level one has attracted 36 kids. It's sufficient for two classes which makes me really excited / happy.

Silky Folds

Perhaps this one should have been called 'ordered turbulence'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to 'dial in' to my Video Conference today, despite 'technical issues' with our gear. For some reason, said gear stopped working earlier in the week and we are making do with a temporary fix. Hopefully things will be properly resolved by next week.

Wave Weave

I wish that this was a real fabric. It would be great to have a scarf made from this kind of material.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting through a very busy day. Said day involved a lot of running around and I'm looking forward to getting to bed.

Echo Ripples

Getting the mosaic background was not as simple as one might think.

Today's Gratitude Item: Quite a significant 'issue' with my school laptop seems to have resolved itself. For months have been having a problem saving documents in Word. Had figured out a 'work around' but found out today that I can once again use the 'Save As' function without crashing my machine. It's weird but in a good way.

Flower Factory

As in the place that fractal flowers are made

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to get an early morning coffee at school tomorrow. Last week, it did not happen and I missed it!

Sunday, August 17, 2014

Swirl Girls

One specifically designed for all those "Geek Girls" out there.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time to simply 'play'. This may well be the calm before the storm though. Am expecting a large pile of marking to arrive on my virtual desk this week.

Saturday, August 16, 2014

Squashed Decoration

Something a bit different. Basically it was shiny and I like shiny things - so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: A 'new' bagel recipe where we use yeast instead of 'superbake' (which is yeast mixed with other stuff). Using 'straight' yeast is faster and the taste / texture of said bagels if far superior to the 'old' way.

Memories of Home

This one is reminiscent of previous works - it goes that way sometimes

Today's Gratitude Item: Pretty much being left to my own devices for 'Teacher Only day'. Got loads of work done which was great.

Thursday, August 14, 2014

Silver Ripples

A variation on a theme that turned out well

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting positive feedback on my last assignment for the course I'm doing. It's good when the person marking the work wants to use what has been produced as a 'model answer'.

Benoit's Ring

Named because the shape in the middle reminded me a little bit of the Mandelbrot set (without the spiky bits).

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to open .pdf files in Word 2013 and having the table contained in the .pdf transform into a Word table which could then be copied and pasted into Excel. Gotta love technology.

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

Lime Keyhole

Sometimes a keyhole is just a keyhole. Other times, it is a portal to another world.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to use Skype to moderate student work. One advantage of using this technology is not having to spend quite so much time travelling which is always a good thing.

Monday, August 11, 2014

Networked Star

Turned out much better than expected.

Today's Gratitude Item: A colleague's kindness! Don't laugh but today, one of my 11th grade Maths students must have been really hungry because they stole my lunch. All I know is that my wrapped sandwich was on my desk at the start of the period, and it had disappeared by the end. One of the office ladies heard me grumbling about the situation after the fact and donated one of her cans of really yummy soup to the cause. Needless to say, said soup was both delicious and deeply appreciated.

Spin the Blues

Warning: Viewers may experience dizziness when exposed to this image.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the pro-Israel 'protest' in Auckland today had a fantastic turnout and positive media coverage. It was great to see the other side of the story covered in the mainstream media.

Saturday, August 09, 2014

Glass Squared

As in it's a square surrounded by glass.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a great time at 'Winter Warm-up'. This is an event where the various folk dance groups in Auckland get together to dance and socialise. Each group does a performance dance (or two) followed by participation dancing. It was wonderful to see so many people (all ages / cultures) getting fully involved.

Target Practice

Had fun with this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Problems that on closer inspection are not really problems! One of my students was having a problem exporting a game she has created to html5 and the problem seemed insurmountable - until it wasn't. Turns out that hosting the game fixed the issue. Weird but at least there was a good ending to this one.

Thursday, August 07, 2014

Great Gauze

This one is similar to previous works - as is often the case, it was pretty so I rendered it.

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of my more 'reluctant' students finally managed to successfully complete an assessment. It was hard going but we got there in the end.

Wednesday, August 06, 2014

Funky String

Another 'pretty' string image which is similar to previous efforts.

Today's Gratitude Item: A great turn out at dance class despite the cold weather we are having. Am really looking forward to the onset of summer...

Tuesday, August 05, 2014

A Hole lot of Mesh

Experimented with a different variant to get this.

Today's Gratitude Item: Turkish for dinner! Eating out is a rare treat and the food tonight was exceptional.

Tisha B'Av 5774

On 'the saddest day' we can but hope for better times.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting an 'easy' relief. I do one relief a cycle - happily this time around it was a 12th grade Physics class where everyone knew what they were meant to be doing. So they did their work and I did mine. It's really good when that happens.

Sunday, August 03, 2014

Rift Rip

Liked the ripple effect of this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time to catch up with a number of small chores. It's amazing how much time those 'small chores' can consume.

Saturday, August 02, 2014

Reconciliation Bridge

It reminded me of a bridge with a candle in the middle.

Today's Gratitude Item: Piping hot quiche straight from the oven! I know I blog about food a lot but this particular treat was exceptional.

Pixelated Starfish

Got lucky with this one. Said luck took quite a while to happen though.

Today's Gratitude Item: The smell of freshly baked raisin bread - absolute heaven.
