Polar Squares

This one has a Scottish background :)

Today's Gratitude Item: That at least some of my students are hard at work. I know this is the case because of the very polite emails that I have been receiving. Funnily enough, after only two days of classes, it is fairly obvious who is going to excel and who should have chosen different options.

Fair and Square

The small version looks nicer than the large version. Weird.

Today's Gratitude Item: EPUB file reader. This is a very basic but fully functional alternative to Readium. It's not as good in that it does not 'keep one's place' but it will display text and play embedded video. A number of my students have been having problems with Readium so at least they have something that lets them access the material.

Funky Stripes

A nice surprise.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting through the first 'proper' day of school this year. It was insanely hot and extremely busy. Happily the kids seem to be enthusiastic and good natured which bodes well for the rest of the year.

Rough Weekend

This one was created some time ago (on a Sunday) when I had spent most of the day working and had not created anything arty in months. That particular weekend, like this image, was a bit 'rough'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to create 'name tags' which include log-on details for my students using a mixture of Excel and mail merge in Publisher. The basic plan is to get kids to blue tack their tags onto their laptop lids so that I can easily learn names. Interestingly, while students hate physically wearing name tags, 'tagging' gear in this way has worked really well in the past.

If you think you've seen something *exactly* like this before, you'd be correct. Think of it as a trip down memory lane.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting around to updating my Moodle courses for 2015. Kids have their first 'proper' day on Thursday and am almost ready.

Geometric Ripple

In my world, squares are everywhere - even in the ocean.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a reasonably early night. Need to get up early to go to school tomorrow. At least we get to ease into the year, starting with a four day week this week and another four day week next week.

That's Stretching It

As in this one looks like something that has been stretched. The question is, has it been stretched too far?

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to go to school tomorrow. I can't believe that it's our last day of summer vacation. Having said that, am both ready and a bit excited to be going back to work this coming week.

Crescent Play

Had fun with this one - even though the design is not all that useful for other projects.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a $20.00 note on today's walk. It was surreal and I felt a bit bad for whoever lost it (but not bad enough to dampen the excitement of the moment).

Gwen's Socks

This is dedicated to all those people out there who proudly wear funky socks. I wish I had the confidence to be one of those people...

Today's Gratitude Item: That the 'bias binder' makers we ordered on-line arrived in the mail.

Another Eye

I'm almost certain I've created images which are quite similar to this one, but it looked pretty - so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the last of my planning for the year ahead 'done'. Said planning was a massive task and it is great to get it out of the way. The next step is to 'buckle down' and create the resources that go with the plan.

Double Grid

Was really pleased with this one. Suffice it to say, creating it was a bit of a challenge.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a number of students switched into my level 2 Digital Technology course today (during course confirmation). This means that my class will probably quite large which is a very good thing.

Column Connection

Once again, 'simple' was the way to go.

One of the downsides to the 'engine' is that if you are going to use it, you should log in (withe FB) / make an account - otherwise you can't save anything and it's all downhill from there. The usability is not great but it did not cost me anything to make the cartoon so am not complaining too loudly.

Bathroom Blinds

I'd love to be able to get my hands on fabric that looked like this...

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to work where it is cool - laptop + air conditioning is a winning combination.

Sunday, January 18, 2015

Cold Comfort

Looks like a blanket / comforter - made with 'cool' colours.

Today's Gratitude Item: Google maps - best directions ever :)

Saturday, January 17, 2015

89 Ice Cubes

Named for the fact that this one has a massive 89 transforms (most of my work has between 3 and 5 transforms).

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to set up a group on FB. It's for an experiment which I'll be trying with my students in the not too distant future.

String Sound

As in a soundwave made up of string.

Today's Gratitude Item: Home grown beans from a friend. They tasted amazing!

Thursday, January 15, 2015

Uncertain Intersection

Was not sure that this one was a good idea.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a colleague shared her programming 'Unit Plan' order with me. This makes developing a custom plan for my students much easier as it gives me a 'tried and true' starting point.

Winging It

Sometimes one just needs to 'wing it' / go with the flow.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my students did reasonably well in their external exams (the results were on-line today). There were one or two pleasant surprises which was nice. Best part is that the waiting is over.

Tuesday, January 13, 2015

Suspended Infinity

Named for the infinity symbol suspended in the middle of the string columns.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time to do a bunch of 'little things' before returning to school in the not too distant future. Am ignoring all the annoying 'back to school' adverts and am cherishing the last golden days of the holidays.

Very Bright Fan

Like so many things, this seemed like a good idea at the time.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally having some ideas on how to approach teaching Python to my students this year. Needless to say, have only gotten this far thanks to resources shared by colleagues from other schools.

Blue Banded Fan

When looking at this, the word 'ornate' springs to mind.

Today's Gratitude Item: Creating the final 'Goshen Gazette' cover (my Pesach image). For a sneak peak - click on the preceding link. It's hard to believe that I've been at this for 10 years.

Connected Cogs

'Different' is not always better.

Today's Gratitude Item: Air conditioning. It's been *almost* unbearably hot and humid.

Friday, January 09, 2015

Banded Together

Whilst this one looks simple, creating it was anything but.

Today's Gratitude Item: Tierazon. This is a really old fractal program which can generate some interesting images. Have been on an extended break from apophysis and am enjoying the change. The images that I am creating will appear on this blog in due course. Can't wait? Here's a sneak peak (scroll down to the bottom of the page for the latest images).

Storm Observtaion

Was quite fun to make. Colouring took way to long though.

Today's Gratitude Item: Perfect timing. Was just in time to see a butterfly emerge from it's chrysalis this morning. Have seen this before but watching said 'new' butterfly emerge was really magical.

Wednesday, January 07, 2015

Sunshine Reflection

Struggled with the background on this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: That there is a free (non-commercial) font for creating 'Keep Calm' posters. Useful when one wants to make high-res images and the on-line generator is not powerful enough.

Tuesday, January 06, 2015

Lots of Cogs

I wonder what this machine is meant to do.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finishing one of my 'big' holiday projects. It's nice to be 'done'.

Monday, January 05, 2015

Spring Cog

As in a cog made up of a bunch of springs.

Today's Gratitude Item: Despite the wasp situation, we have four monarch chrysalises. One of them has started to go transparent which means that the emergence of the butterfly within is imminent.

Sunday, January 04, 2015

Cone Conference

If you squint and use your imagination, you might agree that this one is made up of cones.

Today's Gratitude Item: Illustrator's 'blend' tool. It makes some things much easier than they would otherwise be.

Saturday, January 03, 2015

Pyramid Sunrise

This one was a pleasant surprise.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a lovely blouse on sale (half price). I hate shopping for clothes but sometimes it is necessary. Happily today's excursion was not totally fruitless.

Friday, January 02, 2015

Stair Oddity

Reminded me of circular stairs.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally making some progress on this year's micrograph (for Yom HaShoah). Said image is expected to take a while to create...

Thursday, January 01, 2015

Purple Plant

Took a while to find a suitable gradient for this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting macros to work again in Excel. For some reason the option was greyed out and previously working macros would not run. The only way to get things back to normal was to uninstall and then reinstall MS Office.
