Electronic Luck

As in a digital four leaf clover.

Today's Gratitude Item: Special delivery coffee. Thanks to a student needing help and an early morning meeting was not able to grab my usual coffee from our hospitality students. Happily, my boss brought it over to the meeting as she knew I'd be pretty desperate.

Split Disc

Creating the background for this one took longer than expected.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having some unexpected time to catch up on random 'bits and pieces' this afternoon. At this point, every little bit counts.

Textured Men

This one turned out a lot better than expected - the background was remarkably co-operative and blissfully quick to create.

Today's Gratitude Item: Only one week of school to go until holidays! Needless to say, knowing we are 'almost there' means that I'm not overly sad that the all to short weekend has come to an end.

Flower Power 3.0

I don't usually like bright flowers but in this case I'll make an exception.

Today's Gratitude Item: A lovely night out. Went to Ima's and enjoyed great food, great service and great company.

Pix Men

As in pixelated men. In my view the 'extra' pixelation is an interesting effect that should be used sparingly.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a longer than expected class with my senior students. It was good because one of them was struggling with a problem and we needed the unanticipated extra time to resolve it.

Man Grunge

Normally I don't like 'grungy' images but somehow, this one 'works'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Taking the evening 'off' from both marking and exercise. I think a relaxing early night is in order.

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Man Rays

As in little Mandelbrot 'men' travelling out in a 'ray' pattern.

Today's Gratitude Item: Seeing at least some of my senior students make significant progress on their game development projects.

Tuesday, June 23, 2015

Net Sphere

As in a networked sphere. The background involved a fair bit of work but it was worth the effort.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a level 3 Python workbook that I had my eye on is free for teachers wanting to use it to improve their own skills. I used the level 2 workbook to up-skill last year as part of a course and assumed that I'd need to pay for the level 3 workbook. Was really excited to receive my free copy when I asked about the price. Now all I need to do is work through it.

Mandel Sphere Revisited

Was particularly pleased with the little 'men' at the bottom left of the sphere. Getting them into position took a bit of tweaking.

Today's Gratitude Item: Tactful colleagues. I created a summary resource for Python that sadly had quite a few typos. When I shared it with my colleagues, one of them kinldy took the time to proof read it and send through some very polite feedback. Needless to say, said resource has been fixed / updated.

Rich Man's World

As in the little 'men' are made of copper and the shape reminds me of the lines on a globe.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a total of $2.00 during this morning's walk. It was a bit surreal as it involved two separate $1 'finds'.

Raining Men

There's a song about this one...

Today's Gratitude Item: Finishing a novel by my favourite author and finding another 'new' one at the library.

Friday, June 19, 2015

Tumbling Mosaic

Experimented a bit with the 'dc cube' variation. This was both time consuming and rather frustrating but at least I got one decent image out of the process.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a tutorial for how to make a 'matching / memory' game using Game Develop. It is exactly what one of my students needed to develop a game for his client.

Brick Work

Plain, simple and surprisingly easy to create.

Today's Gratitude Item: That it is very easy to get in touch with parents when my students fall behind on their work. Sadly some of them are not doing the work in class and they are not doing it at home either which means they end up missing deadlines / falling behind. Frequently contacting parents seems to help although I suspect the kids don't appreciate the 'nagging'.

Web Mist

Was super-pleased with the background on this one. I love experimenting!

Today's Gratitude Item: Things getting a bit quieter at school. The first part of the week has been insanely busy so having things calm down a bit will be really good.

Fenced In

Another 'easy to create' image.

Today's Gratitude Item: Nine down, three more to go. So far "learner lead conferences" are going well. The reality is that most of us are looking forward to the end of this somewhat lengthy process.

Monday, June 15, 2015

Man Sphere

In this case, the 'man' stands for Mandelbrot. The background took an insanely long time to 'get'.

Today's Gratitude Item: The possibility of being able to get quite a bit of work done after school tomorrow. We're supposed to have 'Learner lead conferences' which replaces parent / teacher interviews (long story). Let's just say there are quite a few large, unanticipated gaps in my schedule and I'm not complaining.

Mandel Strips

As you can see, I've discovered Apo's 'Mandelbrot' variation. This will probably be a short lived phase.

Today's Gratitude Item: A water tight bus shelter. Said shelter was perfect for escaping some rather unwelcome (but short lived) rain.

Saturday, June 13, 2015

Long Ripple

As in rather than being 'round', these ripples are long.

Today's Gratitude Item: A 'news free' day. No radio, no TV and no Internet equates to a very relaxing and enjoyable break from it all.

Friday, June 12, 2015

Mandel Girls

Presenting the Mandelbrot set in a slightly new way.

Today's Gratitude Item: A work free weekend. Our school system will be down all weekend due to a scheduled upgrade. That means no work emails and no student assignments to mark. Things on Monday will be busy as we catch up with the back log but my plan is to relax while I can.

Thursday, June 11, 2015

Man Wall

This one took a bit of extra tiling but it was worth the effort.

Today's Gratitude Item: Very yummy delicious muffins!

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Gold Rods

I liked the subtle wave pattern on this one - so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: Extra ankle support. For the first time since camp, my ankle does not hurt after dance class. To be fair, said ankle was not too bad and was getting better on it's own, but the extra support helped a lot.

Tuesday, June 09, 2015

Bamboo Barrier

This works mainly because it is not too busy.

Today's Gratitude Item: The return of a favouite blog from 'way back'. Here's hoping more posts are in the pipeline.

Monday, June 08, 2015

Flat Pompoms

Revisiting a seldom-used variation worked out well.

Today's Gratitude Item: Ear muffs. Warm ears = warm feet. Don't ask me how it works - it just does.

Sunday, June 07, 2015

Chariot Wheel

As in this wheel is on fire.

Today's Gratitude Item: That our school email server is finally back up. The enforced break from work was nice, catching up on the backlog was not.

Saturday, June 06, 2015

Mosaic Floor

Nice and simple.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my new work laptop has quite a long lasting battery. It's nice not to have to have it plugged in all the time.

Friday, June 05, 2015

Sun Machine

Probably to busy to be useful but it was a fun experiment.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having time to catch up with a lot of 'stuff'.

Thursday, June 04, 2015

Happy Flower Ball

The title really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: A short week. Am really happy that tomorrow is Friday :)

Wednesday, June 03, 2015

Trapped Sunlight

This one took a bit of experimenting to get right.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the heavy rain / stormy weather was not enough to deter most of my dance group. Had a great time dancing and was lucky to avoid being rained on although traffic getting to dance was very heavy (Auckland drivers are not all that great when it is wet).

Tuesday, June 02, 2015

Wall Flowers

In nice rows.

Today's Gratitude Item: That some things are quite quick to mark. Have gotten better at getting kids to prove that they have done the required work without having to spend hours marking said work. Screenshots are a wonderful thing :)

Fab Frame

Don't see the frame, tilt your head by 45 degrees.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to find a Caesar Cipher solver that I wrote last year in Python. Whilst there are loads of 'solvers' freely available on the 'net, my students are going to create their own as part of their quest to learn Python. They need to be able to explain what a Caesar Cipher is for one of our other topics so getting them to create their own solver is worth the time and effort.
