Subdued Weave

Brighter colours on this one looked truly horrible.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting some annoying paperwork out of the way.

Very Plain Squares

Somehow I think this one will make a very nice desktop background.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having bubble wrap close to hand. Suffice it to say it's a 'dance thing' (ie: needed to get music to someone who is not all that computer savvy).

Off the Radar

Took ages to get this one looking halfway decent.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a perfect birthday card for a friend. Needless to say, said card was the source of both laughter and appreciation.

Curve Collection

Did not turn out as planned. This one is in the "OK but not great' category, the fact that it is really similar to yesterday's offering only adds to the disappointment.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to create a 'memory match' game using GDevelop (long story). The fact that some kind soul posted the source material on-line helped immensely.

Gallactica Revisited

If things aren't working out - try changing the perspective.

Today's Gratitude Item: That more often than not, resetting the modem is all that is required to restore the Internet.

Awkward Flower

I posted this by accident last night and it was then replaced by my Tisha B'Av image. So if it looks familiar, that would be the reason.

Today's Gratitude Item: Rain that lasted for most of the day. It set in after our morning walk and provided a great excuse for staying indoors.

Tisha B'Av 5775

Commemorating the saddest day...

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Being up to date with my marking. The downside to this state of affairs is that far too many of my students have not submitted work by the due date (leaving me with nothing to mark at this point).

Modern Patchwork

Creating electronic 'patchwork' patterns is a lot easier than the manual equivalent.

Today's Gratitude Item: Friday afternoon and a half-read good book :)

Pix Ripple

As in pixels that ripple.

Today's Gratitude Item: A before school morning meeting that was cancelled and an assembly which finished early due to 'technical problems'.

Base Line

Here are more 'Mandelbrot Men' - for some reason, they make me happy.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my tech guy was able to solve a thorny problem at short notice with minimum fuss.

Tuesday, July 21, 2015

Round in Circles

This one took a surprisingly long time to get 'right'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Quick and easy collaboration with colleagues at other schools. The best thing about being a Computer Science teacher is the fact that my colleagues around the country are incredibly supportive and love to share ideas and resources.

Sharp String

Sometimes things just 'click. this was one of those times.

Today's Gratitude Item: Seldom worn clothes that have been given a new lease on life (said items will now be worn much more frequently).

Kosher Ribbon

This one is a variation on a theme.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting to walk twice today (and not needing an umbrella on either occasion).

Very Shiny

Related to 'Sharp String'. It's funny how making a few small changes can have a very big effect.

Today's Gratitude Item: That sometimes the kids who try and cheat are not all that bright. I had one submit a piece of code which still had the original author's name at the top in the comments section. When confronted, the cheater insisted that the work was his. Not too bright. Needless to say, his parents were less than impressed, especially as I took the time to create a brief screencast showing them how I knew their darling had uploaded work that was not his own. Scarily, if he had not made it so easy for me, the cheating might have gone undetected.

Making Waves

It's been a long time since I made anything. This one is vaguely unsettling but in a good way.

Today's Gratitude Item: Unplanned sushi. Very occasionally, being spontaneous can be fun.

Door to Insanity

As long as one does not walk through it, everything will be OK.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a 'play' day. Had quite a bit of work that I probably should have done but decided that all of it can wait.

Angular Pots

The foreground reminded me of geometric urns. Hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the worst of today's windy storm had passed by the time I needed to go to dance class.

Tuesday, July 14, 2015

Diamond Loop

I liked the 'loops' in this one. It is "OK" rather than spectacular.

Today's Gratitude Item: This really cool Gear Generator which saved me a lot of time and made the 'time consuming and difficult' merely time consuming.

Monday, July 13, 2015

Woven Diamond Men

Here are yet more 'men'. Could not help myself.

Today's Gratitude Item: *Finally* having an efficient (and effective) heater by my 'main' computer. Being toasty while working is wonderful.

Sunday, July 12, 2015

Weird Wall

The title really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being one third of the way through the Python work book that will *hopefully* help me to learn what I need to know to teach programming at level 3 next year. So far the process has been slow and frustrating but it should be worth it in the end. Things are starting to make sense which is good.

Checkered Pool Play

This one looks quite good at full size.

Today's Gratitude Item:That warmer weather is theoretically coming our way. Of course given the icy temperatures of the past few days, that would not take much.

Friday, July 10, 2015

Take the 'traditional' Mandelbrot fractal and splice it up a bit and this is what happens.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my dad organised a new tyre for my car. He is the best!

Thursday, July 09, 2015

Man Multitude

As in a whole bunch of 'Mandelbrot Men'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Fuzzy gloves and hot soup. It's been one of those very cold days.

Wednesday, July 08, 2015

Checkered Chocolate

Guaranteed to taste better than plain chocolate :)

Today's Gratitude Item: That there were a dozen of us at dance tonight despite the freezing weather.

Tuesday, July 07, 2015

Mosaic River

Perhaps this one should have been called "geometric flow".

Today's Gratitude Item: That technology makes it easy to give students feedback. These days it is possible to make a quick video showing a student how to fix code / improve work and then upload it to our learning management system. This is so much more efficient than trying to write a small novel / waiting to see the student in question.

Tiled Tunnel

Looks like the start of a tunnel system where explorers can go either left or right...

Today's Gratitude Item: Two down, three more to go. Am busy working on a series of images to celebrate / commemorate the High Holy days (which are two and a half months away). They will feature on this blog in due course.

Nuclear Web

There's a nuclear hazard symbol in this one. If you don't see it, try squinting.`

Today's Gratitude Item: The fact that my ear muffs are not only suitably warming, they prevent my hat from being blown off when walking. Needles to say, it has been rather windy lately.

Saturday, July 04, 2015

Toasty Swirl

The colours reminded me of toast - must have been having a weird day.

Today's Gratitude Item: Perfect weather for napping :)

Friday, July 03, 2015

Shiny Green Buttons

A mosaic on a mosaic background.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally making it to the end of term. "Busy" does not even begin to describe it!

Thursday, July 02, 2015

Side Mosaic

Interestingly, this one looked much nicer on a light background.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having significantly less to do than earlier in the evening. It's been a long night...

Modern ANZAC

It's been a while since a poppy appeared on my screen. Was pleased with this particular incarnation.

Today's Gratitude Item: Taking lunch to school. Morning tea was supposed to provided today as it is close to the end of term and some staff are leaving. Usually after a 'farewell' morning tea, lunch is not necessary. Unfortunately there was a mishap with the catering for said morning tea (someone got the day wrong) which means that there was no food to go with the farewell speeches. Happily I did not go hungry. Sadly the same cannot be said for some of my colleagues.
