Spiral Perfection

The title really says it all.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to find the statistics 'data cards' referenced in the planning for my 9th grade stats class. It would have helped if said planning had linked to the resource but happily google came to the rescue (gotta love it when colleagues don't share material effectively). I then got to spend a fun hour plus printing and cutting out said cards for a 'hands on' activity. Hopefully tomorrow's class will be worth the effort.

Black Triangle

With just a hint of pink. When it comes to colour, in this case, less is more.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my work did not get destroyed during a 'brown out' which was long enough to reset the answerphone but not quite long enough to kill my computer.

Woven Holes

A nice twist on a familiar theme.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a perfect image on pixabay for a cartoon that I created to help my maths students remember the definition of a 'right skewed' distribution.

Arc String

I zoomed into the best part of a larger image to generate this piece.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having two Chinese 'Internationals'* in my one class - one is very new and one has been with me since the start of the year. This made life easy because the one who knows the ropes was able to show my new student what to do.

*In NZ, many schools open their doors to 'fee paying' International Students as a way of getting extra money mostly because government funding for State schools is not actually enough to cover the costs of running most schools. International Students also bring an added dimension to our classes so we have a constant 'cultural exchange' thing happening (which is really good).

Strings Attached

Sometimes having 'strings attached' can be a good thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: That one of my dancers told me it was another dancer's birthday this week which meant doing things a bit differently in class so that the dancer with the birthday got to feel quite special. This one is hard to explain but it meant that class was even more fun than usual.

Red Poppy

Composed of two separate fractals. Sometimes the only way to get things 'just right' is to render twice and then post process.

Today's Gratitude Item: Successfully downloading and installing some rather cool software. Now all I need to do is learn how to use it...

Monday, July 25, 2016

Sharp Spiral

This one turned out better than expected.

Today's Gratitude Item: Unexpected desert. Needless to say, said desert was very, very good and really hit the spot.

Sunday, July 24, 2016

Daffodil Blues

Sometimes the flower generated by Apophysis can look almost like the real thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the information that I needed to prepare for tomorrow's Math's class 'just in time'. It would have been good to have the material earlier but in this case the phrase 'better late than never' applies.

Straight Star

Simple but hopefully effective.

Today's Gratitude Item: A really restful 'do nothing' day. Tomorrow will be a lot more busy...

Tendrils at Night

If you look closely, you'll see the flower in this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: The Computer Science Field Guide. It made my planning quick, easy and painless.

Sudden September

September is synonymous with daffodils and this one appeared out of the blue - hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: Sawdust! It turns out that said sawdust is perfect for 'mopping up' oil spills. There's a long (and slightly boring) story behind this one - as is so often the case, things worked out well in the end.

Suspended String

Similar to earlier works but I liked it so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: Deciding not to do any school work and indulging in reading a book instead. The break was heavenly.

Tuesday, July 19, 2016

Crescent Creation

It might not look like it, but getting the background 'just right' took a bit of time.

Today's Gratitude Item: That creating an assessment task for my level 3 programming students was not nearly as difficult (or time consuming) as feared.

Monday, July 18, 2016

Half Hole

Or should that be 'Half Whole'?

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to walk *twice* today despite the 'yucky' weather. The best thing about walking when it is cold and miserable outside is getting home (where it is warm, safe and dry).

Sunday, July 17, 2016

Steroidal Intensity

Probably too intense for most desktops. Icons could get lost forever on this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: E-books! Perfect for rainy Sundays when the library is closed.

Saturday, July 16, 2016

Warm Enclosure

It's amazing what is possible with virtual string.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finishing my 'Chag Images' for the upcoming Jewish holidays. I know that Rosh HaShana is still months away but time has a habit of rapidly disappearing and completing the images was one of my goals for this past week.

Friday, July 15, 2016

Wave Play

The 'Cubic Lattice' variation is quite limited but it can give good results - especially if one is very patient.

Today's Gratitude Item: 'The Desk' has been ordered! After months of a using a makeshift 'standing desk', I'm finally getting the real thing for my office downstairs. Said desk will take about two weeks to arrive and I can't wait.

Thursday, July 14, 2016

Loopy Lattice

This one involved a lot of zooming in.

Today's Gratitude Item: Crappy weather. The freezing cold was an excuse to curl up with a book. This could be one reason that I love winter holidays.

Wednesday, July 13, 2016

Wave Mountain

Is this a really odd series of waves or is it a mountain range? You decide.

Today's Gratitude Item: Teaching a new dance to my group tonight. Said dance (Tfilot) is really beautiful, has lovely music and was not too hard to learn.

Tuesday, July 12, 2016

Blue Glass

In my view this one is 'pretty good' - as in it is 'pretty' and that is 'good'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Had fun dancing with the Danish dance group this evening. The reason for the change was that they host 'Winter Warm-up' which is a major event on the folk dance calendar. I wanted to check that we could use 'the android' to play our music rather than a CD so 'making a night of it' seemed like a good idea. Not only did the music work, but a great time was had by all.

Monday, July 11, 2016

Echo Flow

This one was unusual enough to be worth rendering.

Today's Gratitude Item: A cool "work-around". It's a long story but this is one of those times when Rule #11 applies.

Sunday, July 10, 2016

Shiny Skein

The colours on this one were a nice surprise

Today's Gratitude Item: That the coffee muffin recipe we use is quick, easy and pretty much fool proof.

Saturday, July 09, 2016

String Bridge

As in a bridge made of string.

Today's Gratitude Item: A gorgeous day which involved not having to do anything. Weather has been chilly but reasonably dry which is perfect for walking (and napping) so it's all good.

Friday, July 08, 2016

Cheaper by the Dozen

This is a twist on a flower fractal.

Today's Gratitude Item: School holidays are finally here! Thus begins two weeks of bliss. Also known as having time to catch up and not needing to wake up before dawn.

Thursday, July 07, 2016

Flowers Squared

More fractal flowers, this time they have been 'squared'.

Today's Gratitude Item: That parent / teacher conferences are over. It was a worthwhile exercise but, like all things that are worthwhile a lot of work was involved.

Wednesday, July 06, 2016

Curtain Mosaic

Similar to one of my other images but nice enough to be worth rendering.

Today's Gratitude Item: Several down, several more to go. As in today's parent / student / teacher conferences went really well and we can look forward to more of the same tomorrow.

Tuesday, July 05, 2016

Moon Ripple

This one is two fractals combined into one (long story).

Today's Gratitude Item: That a small email issue that resulted in a bit of missing mail has now been fixed. Hopefully no-one tried to email me anything important as the 'missing' emails are well and truly lost in cyberspace.

Monday, July 04, 2016

Sometimes just a tiny bit of colour is the best way to go.

Today's Gratitude Item: An unexpected flurry of activity on Shutterstock. I was expecting today to be really quiet as it is a holiday in the States.

Sunday, July 03, 2016

Saturday Spiral

Tried a slightly different variation with this one and the result was a pleasant surprise. The name refers to the fact that this one was created on a Saturday night.

Today's Gratitude Item: That completing a series of videos for my level 3 programming course did not take nearly as long as feared.

Saturday, July 02, 2016

Sand Stripe

As in the colours reminded me of shades of sand.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a rather scary (and quite nasty) email from Shutterstock was sent in error and there is not actually a problem with the material in my portfolio. Happily Shutterstock sent through an apology email which cleared things up.

Spin Cycle

This one could give laundry day a whole new meaning.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting through one of 'those' days. It started with my classroom key getting stuck in one of the doors and pretty much went downhill from there. Things really only started to improve when I got home (as in: "yay - the weekend is finally here").
