Today's Gratitude Item: Robocompass. This is a great little app which can be used to explain how to manually construct geometric shapes. Needless to say it is incredibly useful when teaching 9th grade geometry.

Am not too sure about this one. It seemed like a good idea a the time.

Today's Gratitude Item: Chilled (or even better, frozen) litchi juice. If you have never tried it, you are missing out (it's an old favourite of mine).

Short for 'triangle thing'. It took a while to get the mosaic background right.

Today's Gratitude Item: I tried to make something like this out of paper and it worked much better than anticipated. My version has more 'movement' than the preceding photo...

Today's Gratitude Item: Paying *a lot* less for petrol than anticipated. Pump price was $1.78 with a further 6c reduction at the till. The service station that I frequent was significantly cheaper than other options (prices varied between $1.85 and $1.99 at other outlets on my route).

This one is related to 'eye ripple' - only it is not as good.

Today's Gratitude Item: That getting my planning for tomorrow done did not take nearly as long as feared.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally figuring out what one of my students was doing wrong. His website was not working as expected and it took ages to find the problem.

This is one of those 'would be cool if it was real' moments.

Today's Gratitude Item: Learning how to combine excel's 'index' and 'match' functions to look up information from a data dump and put it into an easy to read table.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the hang of conditional formatting in sheets. It is now very easy for me to make self marking worksheets for my 7th grade Math class.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the hang of GIMP's 'offset' command. It makes creating cartoons relatively easy. To enjoy said cartoons, feel free to visit my other blog.

This one originally featured metallic colours but the 'inverted' version looked nicer.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to edit categories on a Wordpress blog. This matters because my colleagues and students are blogging to record their professional development / learning and quite a few people have been asking for help with it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to get on top of my marking before going to bed. Unfortunately I still have a mountain of 'other' work to do.

The 'wooden' background was a nice surprise. Sometimes random experimentation can be a good thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: Collaborating with colleagues. It is always interesting and can save time as the wheel need not be reinvented on a daily basis.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the problem solving site that I want to use with my 7th grade Math students works on iPads. I'm so used to stuff not working on iPads that when it finally does it's cause for celebration.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to make a 'book' using geogebra. Basically it is possible to assemble a group of related diagrams in one convenient place which should make things a lot easier for both me and my students.

Created on Old Year's Eve this one is a mix of old and new ideas.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my partial scholarship for doing some further study this year finally came through. I am now officially a student again and am enrolled in one paper at Canterbury University. Things might be about to get busier than they already are (eek).

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to help a student get his computer working again. Initially it would not start up (it was a power issue). Removing the battery and power source, holding down the on button for 30 seconds and then putting the battery back and plugging it in fixed the problem. We would never have figured this out without Google. Of course my student gave me far more credit for the fix than I probably deserved. Needless to say, we were both relieved to have the machine back in action.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my school's Moodle is being slightly temperamental which means that I can't do more marking tonight. This is actually a good thing as it means getting to bed at a *sort of* reasonable hour.

It's been a while since my last spiral and this on just had to be rendered because it reminded me of a spiral staircase.

Today's Gratitude Item: A friend who inadvertently helped put things in perspective. An overly busy day is nothing compared with two funerals in less than a week.

Today's Gratitude Item: That Monday is a public holiday - I need the time to get 'stuff' orgnanised for school. The first week back has been predictably insane. Happily my classes are mostly under control...

This one is reminiscent of flowing fabric - bringing to mind the advice to 'go with the flow'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a perfect, ready made resource over at the Geogebra site. In the near future I will be doing 3D 'nets' with my 7th graders and having an interactive which allows the nets to be folded and unfolded is very handy. We will, of course actually make the paper nets too but the interactive version will be very helpful in explaining 'stuff'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finding out what classes I will be teaching this year. Our timetables are still in flux but things are looking reasonably OK. In addition to IT, I will also be teaching 7th grade Mathematics which should be fun. At least it is a subject where I have some prior experience...
