Ice Connection

In retrospect this one is much too bright. Never mind.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting quite a bit done during my 'non-contact' time today. Normally it's a struggle to be productive on Friday afternoons but happily that was not the case today.

Royal Sparkle

The words 'very purple' spring to mind.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my 12th graders inspired me to give Brackets another try. He also showed me how to install some plugins which make the shift from notepad++ a lot less painful. One of the main reasons that I will probably embrace brackets is that does not require as much updating as notepad++ and it has some really useful features that experienced developers possibly take for granted (such as code completion and auto closing brackets / tags)

Para Silk

As in fractal silk to make a fractal parachute (for jumping out of fractal planes).

Today's Gratitude Item: Having plenty of tissues! Being unwell with a runny cold is deeply unpleasant. Running out of tissues would make the situation so much worse.

On the Radar

For some reason, this one makes me both calm and happy.

Today's Gratitude Item: Surviving a very long day. Left home befor sunrise, got back well after sunset. Parent teacher interviews went well but would have been much better if I did not have a cold. Am feeling slightly sorry for myself...

Monday, March 27, 2017

Not only is this one almost a repeat of 'On the Radar', it is also has a fairly obvious repeating pattern.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being slightly unwell. It means not feeling guilty for taking the evening off (ie: no exercise and definitely no marking).

Big Tree

In this fractal forest, the trees are more blue than green.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my 7th graders are 'out' for much of next week which means I get a break from teaching them Mathematics. This is a good thing as it will give me time to catch up on marking etc.

Saturday, March 25, 2017

Cold Ripple

As in a ripple design featuring 'cold' colours.

Today's Gratitude Item: A long nap and a delicious apple, filo and cinnamon dessert. Saturdays are the best!

Friday, March 24, 2017

Flower Veil

As in a cross between a flower and a veil.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my dodgier students was away to day. The difference this made in class was amazing - the period was calm, productive and enjoyable rather than being frustrating and exhausting.

Tranquil Geometry

This one has an odd, calming quality to it.

Today's Gratitude Item: That almost all of my senior students either handed in their assessment work or organised an extension in advance. It is good that they take our assessment processes seriously. Now the marking begins...

Hole lot of ...

This one is a 'hole lot of something' - was a bit disappointed with how it turned out.

Today's Gratitude Item: Switching departments! It's a long story but I am now officially under the 'Mathematics' department rather than 'Technology'. It's a long story but the short version is that what I teach is a better 'fit' with Mathematics. The switching process was much easier than anticipated.

Glow Gate

Or possibly a portal to another world.

Today's Gratitude Item: That reading large .pdf files is super easy on an iPad. One of the best things about my iPad is that I can read said files via iBooks which is currently making my life a lot easier.

Monday, March 20, 2017

Dance Disc

As in two discs having a great time together.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finishing 'Teacher Only Day' early and managing to get home before a scheduled 4:00 pm Skype call. Plan B was to stay at school and call from there but that would have meant enduring Auckland's heavy rush hour traffic to get home at the end of a very long day.

Sunday, March 19, 2017

Wave Machine

This is where all those waves really come from.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting ahead on this week's reading for my Uni course. Head was spinning after a fairly intense session but at least I have the feeling that progress is being made...

Saturday, March 18, 2017

Ghost Crescent

If you look closely, you can see the crescent shape in this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the crêpes I made for tonight's dessert worked really well. Not burning my fingers during the crêpe making process was an added bonus.

Friday, March 17, 2017

Crescent Creche

Where baby crescents hang out while their parents are at work.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a really good day. My students were all in a good mood, possibly because the weekend is almost here and Monday is teacher only day.

Thursday, March 16, 2017

Sphere X

This one is quite 'busy' but in a good way.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to screen-cast my iPad. Whilst there are a large number of apps which allow 'in-app' recording, recording one's iPad / iPhone is strongly discouraged by Apple for security reasons. This makes sense right up until one needs to show 7th graders how to access the isometric grid (and turn off automatic point labelling) in the iPad app version of Geogebra (which is different enough from the PC version to make screen-casting the iPad a really good idea).

Tall Order

Originally there was one column and no background...

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a brand new, very powerful projector for my classroom. The old one was not up to the job and the bulb needed replacing. Said bulb was so expensive that getting a new projector made sense. My students and I are loving the new model as things now very clear and easy to read.

Blooming success

Here is my take on a modern flower.

Today's Gratitude Item: Taking a top 8th grade Mathematics class once a week. Tomorrow's plan involves getting them to do some time calculations using the 'Travelling Salesman Problem'. If this goes well, it will be a great mix of Math and Computer Science. Teaching these students is always really fun as they are engaged, motivated and quick to pick up on the patterns which means we can go well beyond the 'normal' curriculum and look at some really interesting stuff.

Uncertain Diamond

If you look closely, you can see that this one is 'wavering' a little.

Today's Gratitude Item: My 7th grade Math class are on a field trip tomorrow. Normally I'd see them twice thanks to our rather weird time table. I think we are all looking forward to the break.

Sunday, March 12, 2017

Wave Reminiscence

I think we've been here before - and it was so much fun that the experience has been repeated.

Today's Gratitude Item: A colleague letting me know that a resource I made and shared is useful. It makes the effort spent creating said resource worthwhile.

Purim 5777

Had a lot of fun with this one. Please note the disclaimer and see the large version of the image to be able to easily read the text.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: That the rain finally let-up allowing for a mid-morning walk outside and a stress free trip to tonight's Purim festivities (which were fun).

Recalcitrant Stripes

Named because finding a suitable gradient for this one was much harder than usual.

Today's Gratitude Item: Get home before the rain. Sometimes it's the little things that matter.

Thursday, March 09, 2017

Stone Flower

This one is a mix of 'old fashioned' and modern.

Today's Gratitude Item: This isometric drawing tool. It is perfect for showing my 9th graders the relationship between 'plan' views and a 3D shape. In addition to this resource, we will use physical building blocks to help them get their heads around this topic.

Wednesday, March 08, 2017

Square Hole

Reminds me of a woven flower.

Today's Gratitude Item: Jeffrey Archer's latest novel is waiting for me at my local library. The timing is perfect as I have *almost* run out of reading material.

Tuesday, March 07, 2017

Soft Windmill

This one was a fun surprise.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting my reports done. Setting things up so that said reports could be completed took a while but the actual report creation was very quick.

Monday, March 06, 2017

Odd Perspective

Sometimes zooming in (a lot) helps. This was one of those times.

Today's Gratitude Item: My most restless student managed to sit *relatively* still and focus for almost an entire period today. He suddenly became motivated to work thanks to a possible trip to New York (he's always wanted to go and provided he behaves, it could happen). It will be interesting to see if the motivation lasts (here's hoping).

Home Spun

And full of recycled goodness.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting through a mountain of work which included working on my Uni course, getting through a massive pile of marking and updating the parents of my 7th graders on each child's progress (mail merge is a wonderful thing). Am feeling rather virtuous.

Saturday, March 04, 2017

Fragmented Weave

This one is a bit disjointed for my taste.

Today's Gratitude Item: Revisiting the work-flow for uploading and keywording images to Shutterstock. Sometimes making small, smart changes can save significant time and effort.

Friday, March 03, 2017

Fragmented Fabric

Sometimes 'busy' and 'ornate' just demands to see the light of day.

Today's Gratitude Item: I'm incredibly grateful that the weekend is finally here. This week has been busy bordering on insane.

Thursday, March 02, 2017

Woven Sculpture

Was particularly pleased with the 3D effect of this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting my level 1 student's first internal marked after a marathon marking session (it was due this morning). Now I need to get it moderated but it is good to have the marking task behind me.

Modern Infinity

This one looks a bit like a mask...

Today's Gratitude Item: My complaint about Canterbury University's unfair student services levy has been accepted by the Office of the Ombudsmen and they will now investigate. Fingers crossed that the outcome is favourable.
