Beach Bows

As in bows that look like sand on a beach.

Today's Gratitude Item: Best ever pizza bread for morning tea :)

Busy Bows

If you stare at this one for a while, it becomes *sort of* mesmerising.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally submitting my first Uni assignment. Now the wait to find out how I did begins. Studying again after a long while has been a powerful reminder of what my students go through on a regular basis.

Modern Flower

With a twist!

Today's Gratitude Item: That my last appointment for this evening cancelled which meant getting home slightly earlier than expected. It was still a 'too long' day though...

Topographical Waves

Sometimes '3D' happens - this time it required surprisingly little effort.

Today's Gratitude Item: Vindication! For the past two years I have focused on 'skills based' material in my senior courses rather than something called 'generics' (very long, very boring story). Digital Technologies is now on Auckland University's "Table B" (this is a very big deal) but the 'generics' that I have been avoiding don't count towards this. Many of my colleagues at other schools still offer generics for various reasons and I have always felt vaguely guilty / out of step for not going that route. Needless to say, my students are now advantaged as provided they work hard, everything they do in 'Digital' counts towards "Table B" points.

Hidden Heart

In the original, the heart was a lot harder to see. This one required quite a bit of post processing in GIMP.

Today's Gratitude Item: That it is easy to 'dob students in' for using FaceBook if they are under age. Some of my 7th graders are not too bright and one of them sent me a friend request. I checked her age and then reported her profile. As teachers we are not allowed to 'friend' our students for very good reasons (aside from the fact that it is creepy, it is not safe and things could go badly wrong all round).

Soft Target

Had fun with this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my seventh grade Math students emailed asking for help with a homework question. She is the first one to actually do what I asked (ie: "if you are stuck, take a screenshot and email me asking for help"). I made a super quick video and got a lovely 'thank you' email shortly after.

Scarf Fall

This one is related to 'topographical waves' - it's good when making slight changes results in interesting differences.

Today's Gratitude Item: Figuring out how to turn off notifications from a particularly sneaky website that I inadvertently enabled late on Friday.

Disc Disturbance

The 'spin' variation is quite limited but in this case, it did the trick.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my students solved a very tricky python problem and shared the 'fix' with me (and the class). That saved me days of frustrating effort :)

Modern Tile

This one is simple but good. Does that make it 'simply good'?

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding an add-on that lets me convert footnotes in a google document to end notes (needed for my Uni assignment).

Wednesday, June 21, 2017

Fire Flower

Tried something different with this on and was pleasantly surprised with the results.

Today's Gratitude Item: A power nap before dance. I'd have liked to nap for longer but in this case 'a little' was better than none.

Patience Weave

As the name suggests, this one required a fair bit of patience.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finding on-line interactive algebra worksheets that are self marking. This will allow my students to get some much needed practice without needing to consult 'boring' text books.

Irresistible Curves

As is so often the case, when this spiral appeared, I could not resist the temptation to render it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being given time in my Uni course to focus on our first assignment. There won't be any new content until after said assignment is due which is a huge relief.

Flowers for Gran

This one reminded me of my grandmother - I think she would have really liked these particular flowers.

Today's Gratitude Item: Hot from the oven, home made 'pizza bread' for afternoon tea. Yum!

Gold Hub

It turns out that shifting one's perspective can make a big difference.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally getting my hands on a new Puzzle Book. The Australian Woman's Weekly Puzzle Book for June / July *still* has not arrived at my local book store. Happily I spotted a 'Better Homes and Gardens' puzzle book which seems to be similar (only with more prizes).

Forever Trap

As in a diamond (which is forever) that is also a trap.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a critical review I posted on a forum for my Uni course was well received by my lecturer.

Seed Pod

A fun surprise which was less difficult to create than one might think.

Today's Gratitude Item: That sometimes it is easy to fix kid's broken code. Weirdly one of the most common mistakes that I see is typing a '+' instead of an '='. This is surprisingly easy to do and surprisingly hard for kids to debug.

Religious Experience

This one took a bit of rotating / tweaking but we got there in the end.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to schlep heavy dance speakers home! Now the mission is to find a lighter (but still powerful) upgrade to said speakers.

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

NY Dawn

As in this one is reminiscent of a cityscape on a clear morning.

Today's Gratitude Item: Free, hot, barista coffee delivered to my classroom - this is one of those 'things' that never gets old.

Monday, June 12, 2017

Butterfly Net

This one is a variation on a theme. As usual, if you can't see the butterfly, try squinting

Today's Gratitude Item: That updating my old version of XAMPP was a lot less painful than anticipated.

Sunday, June 11, 2017

Metallic Rush

This one was named when I was in a hurry.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to write a program to make key-wording images (for uploading to Shutterstock) less painful.

Saturday, June 10, 2017

Go Flow

Just went with the flow on this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Post it notes! They are really useful for making notes on things like text books. I finished reading 'Designing with the Mind in Mind' which is part of my Uni study and being able to mark the bits that I need to refer back to later was very convenient.

Arabian Night

The colours and funky triangle reminding me of the dessert at night - hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not being late for work despite falling back asleep after turning off my alarm (oops).

Thursday, June 08, 2017

Desert Storm

Getting caught out in this one would probably not end well.

Today's Gratitude Item: Taking the night off from school work. Am exhausted and whilst I have a mountain of stuff in the 'to do' pile, I decided it could all wait! Sometimes it is OK to say 'enough is enough'.

Wednesday, June 07, 2017

Twisted Sunrise

The intricacy of this one made it worth rendering.

Today's Gratitude Item: Dancing at the 'new' venue went incredibly well. I was very nervous about the change and am pleased with how things went.

Tuesday, June 06, 2017

Embedded Rose

This one is a variation on a theme.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my dodgiest students is shifting to another school. Friday is his last day! When I found out I was completely professional and *nicely* said 'things won't be the same without you'. It turns out that teachers can be quite good at keeping a straight face whilst doing the 'happy dance' on the inside.

Warp Six - Engage!

This one is for all the Trekkies out there.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a surprising amount of 'stuff' done. An actually feeling vaguely ready for the week ahead.

Sunday, June 04, 2017

Cog Weave

Simple but 'strong'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting all my 11th grade databases marked. There were some surprises (both good and bad). Overall I was pleased with the results.

Saturday, June 03, 2017

Gold Nexus

This one did not turn out quite as well as hoped. Having said that, it is not bad enough to 'bin'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Confirmation that I am on the right track for one of my Uni assignments :)

Friday, June 02, 2017

Reminded me of scales but going upwards.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being at the start of a lovely long weekend :)

Thursday, June 01, 2017

Hail Storm

It looks quite turbulent inside this one. The rings are reminiscent of a hail stone - hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: That most of my students handed in the assessment that was due this morning. So far the marking has been relatively straight forward which is good. Sadly 'straight forward' does not mean 'quick' but it could be worse...
