Purim 5778

I had a 'what if' moment. Specifically, wouldn't it be cool if one could get hamentashen flavoured candy for Purim.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Unexpected Purim Sushi for dinner. It was delicious (as always).

Pushed Envelope

The shape reminded me of an envelope icon for some reason. Odd.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to be 'out' on the field for Athletics day tomorrow. Happily only those students who are competing are involved which is a great way of doing things.

Black Sunrise

As in if the sun were a dark black hole instead of a flaming ball of gas, this is what sunrise on a weird planet would look like. Never let physics get in the way of a good story.

Today's Gratitude Item: That flickr is back up again. It went down earlier this evening but happily the 'lapse' was short lived.

Carved Disc

This started off as two opposite sides of the disc. Happily post processing allowed me to fill in the blanks.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally beating one of my client's WordPress sites into submission. As is so often the case, this is a long (quite boring) story with a happy ending.

Pulled Tight

Or maybe just tightly wound.

Today's Gratitude Item: Polite students who do homework on the weekend. Training students to email when they need help takes a while but it is worth the effort :)

Whale Tail

In my world, this is what a whale's tail looks like.

Today's Gratitude Item: Today went a lot better than expected - so much so that I was pleasantly surprised.

Fractured Flower

A weird image which was worth rendering.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having an idea on 'collaborative coding' that might *just* work with my 10th grade class. The basic plan is to get them to decompose a problem as a team and then have small groups create test plans and code for each section. Then we can share the code and everyone should be able to assemble a complete working program in less time than it would otherwise take. It will be interesting to see if this works (and if the resulting code makes better use of functions compared with work coded by a single student).

Disc Design

As is so often the case, we have been here before. I simply could not resist rendering this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having a perfectly shortened 'house shirt' to wear tomorrow for 'Haka' day. It's a big deal at school involving some healthy competition.

Butterfly Prism

Messing around with geometric shapes is becoming a favourite pastime.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a free 'house shirt' for school. Now when we have house contents I can dress the part which appears to be quite important at the new school.

Doorway to Infinity

I'm pretty sure that we've been here before. For some reason looking at this one makes me feel a bit unsettled...

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to access student work that has been 'shared'. Sometimes the links that kids provide don't work - I finally found another way to access the work.

Flower Propellor

As in flower meets airplane.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being up-to-date with my 9th grade marking. Sadly I still have a largish pile of marking from my other classes awaiting my attention.

One More Wave

The only thing better than a spiral is a spiral and a disc in the same image.

Today's Gratitude Item: Feeling refreshed! An afternoon nap and air conditioning were essential in getting to this point.

New Dawn

Perhaps this one should have been called 'Alien Sunrise'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting home earlier than usual due to swimming sports. The actual event went smoothly and my house won which was good. I'd love to say the actual event was fun but it really wasn't.

In a Spin

This one is too floral for my liking...

Today's Gratitude Item: My 9th grade students are, for the most part, starting to think like designers in terms of colour, layout and readability. It's both adorable and encouraging.

Hex Window

There is a bit of everything in this one - it might be overkill.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding an effective way to get in touch with Microsoft about the large number of issues with Teams for Education. It's a great pity that my school won't consider becoming a Google school as they are already too far down the Microsoft path (insert deep sigh here).

Fish Sun

As in if you look closely at this one, you can see two fish shapes. The disc reminded me of the sun.

Today's Gratitude Item: Guilty pleasures! I took the night off from work and enjoyed a *sort of* mid week novel. It felt sinfully divine.

Unexpected Infinity

I was having an 'off' day until this one appeared.

Today's Gratitude Item: An air conditioned classroom! The weather has been extremely humid and I'm one of the lucky few on campus with air-conditioning. I've probably been grateful for this before but in this weather being cool made all the difference.

Enchanted Popsicle

Both attractive and sugar free.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to trouble shoot a client's email issue without too much fuss. It's good when that happens.

Saturday, February 10, 2018

Pearl Pod

Made on one of those days when everything just 'worked'.

Today's Gratitude Item: A lovely day spent doing *almost* nothing. Taking a break after an insanely busy week can never be over-rated.

Star Sensation

Weirdly this looks better 'small'. The large size version is quite disappointing.

Today's Gratitude Item: That our special 'prefects' assembly today was not nearly as lengthy as feared.

Thursday, February 08, 2018

Roman Sunrise

Fractal architecture looks best at dawn.

Today's Gratitude Item: 'Little things' that are not so little. Like not having to fill up my car because it magically got done for me!

Wednesday, February 07, 2018

Geometric Musings

This is almost as compelling as 'that spiral' which appears on a regular basis.

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that I can use animation software that I bought a while back to create a custom clip so my students can learn how to 'green screen' without needing to wait until they have shot their own video. They will all need to shoot video at some stage but at least those who are not 'shooting' won't be wasting time.

Egyptian Mystery

The colours are straight out of one of the Pharaoh's tombs but I have no idea what this is.

Today's Gratitude Item: That copying the contents of one 'OneNote' to another was a lot easier than expected.

Extreme Roundabout

Don't look at this one for too long - it can induce dizziness.

Today's Gratitude Item: That tomorrow is a public holiday. Even though school has just started, I'm ready for a break *yikes*!

Sunday, February 04, 2018

A Bit Bent

This one could also be called 'the hole story'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to complete a video series showing my junior students how to create basic power point presentations. It took ages but should keep them busy for quite some time. The plan is to upload at school tomorrow morning as school internet is much faster than the internet at home :)

Funky Earing

The ear ring is not real, but it would be really cool if it were.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to catch up on some sleep. Starting at a new school has been exhausting.

Friday, February 02, 2018

Chunky Lines

This one is far too ornate for a desktop wallpaper - unless you really want to play 'hide and seek' with your icons.

Today's Gratitude Item: The end of a short week that felt really long. Unsurprisingly, getting used to the new school will take time. So far, I'm enjoying the journey and trying not to feel overwhelmed by the 'work mountain'.

Thursday, February 01, 2018

Woven Bowl

This one is in the 'Simple and 'earthy' category.

Today's Gratitude Item: Most of my students at 'the new school' are really nice. Even though I am surrounded by boys, many of whom are much bigger (and taller) than I am, they are unfailingly polite and extremely careful.
