Checkered Past

Named because it is checkered and we've seen similar images in the past.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting home 'early'. I was sort of hoping some of my students would stay after school to complete work but there were no takers.

Triangles are always fun. That's my story and I'm sticking with it.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the 'white screen of death' on one of my client's WordPress sites was fixed relatively quickly. The culprit was a recalcitrant theme that just did not want to co-operate.

Funky Fold

Make a design, then fold it backwards and see what happens.

Today's Gratitude Item: A stress free, relaxing day. I can't believe that my holiday is just about over! Tomorrow will involve getting ready for school on Monday (insert deep sigh here).

Modern Glass

Here is one of those rare images which actually looks best on a white background.

Today's Gratitude Item: A new issue of my favourite puzzle book has finally become available :)

Abstract Violet

If you use your imagination, there is a flower in there somewhere.

Today's Gratitude Item: Leftovers! As in having everything necessary to make a very quick, very easy and very tasty dinner.

Ragged Diamond

This is very similar to 'Canvas Creation' but I could not resist rendering it.

Today's Gratitude Item: Relearning a dance taught at camp and then teaching it to my group. School holidays are good as it means having time to do this.

Shell Structure

Presenting the latest in beach architecture.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting a hoped for answer from the 'ask an expert' service. As is so often the case, this one involves a long (boring) story - hopefully it will end well.

Canvas Creation

I'm not entirely sure how this happened, but am glad that it did.

Today's Gratitude Item: A reliable sewing machine. It's a lot quicker to take up trousers when one can sew the hems on a machine. Needless to say, it's a great idea to 'tack' said hems before sewing.

Whole Flower

Or should that be 'Flower Hole'?

Today's Gratitude Item: That all but one of my 8th graders submitted assignment work that was due at the end of last term. Most of the work was really well done too. Happily marking said work was extremely quick :)

Dense Packing

Sometimes rotating things by 45 degrees can be helpful.

Today's Gratitude Item: Peace and quiet. Not being crazy-busy is really nice.

Super String Scales

Sometimes when things go 'sideways' it is not a problem.

Today's Gratitude Item: Really delicious carob / coffee muffin :)

Ripped Open

This one is oddly disturbing.

Today's Gratitude Item: A calm, uneventful day. It turns out that 'uneventful' can be really good.

Yom Ha'atzmaut 5778

This image only makes sense if you have seen it's precursor (ie: this year's Yom HaZikaron image).

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Native Hebrew speakers in my Israeli dance class. It means never being stuck when dancers ask what the name of a dance means.

Yom Hazikaron 5778

This is the first of two images to commemorate Yom HaZikaron / Yom Ha'atzmaut. Please stay tuned for tomorrow's installment...

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Not having to go to work! I did a tiny bit of school related work today and need to do some more tomorrow but not having to actually go in is wonderful.

Rough Diamonds

I'm pretty sure we have been here before...

Today's Gratitude Item: I revisited some really old Apophysis parameters, played a bit and got a bunch of cool new images.

Octagonal Flowers

I'm not exactly sure how this happened but am pleased that it did.

Today's Gratitude Item: Managing to create three 'Chag Images' today! This is a bit of a record and all three turned out quite well. Said images will feature on this blog in due course.

Ice Zipper

There might have been a bit too much playing here. The big question is whether it is 'ugly' or 'interesting'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Decisive weather. As in if it's going to rain, it is good when said rain is solid and consistent so that the 'should we walk outside' decision is easily made.

Forever Shells

This is what happens when one combines sea shells and an infinity symbol.

Today's Gratitude Item: The start of a glorious two week break from school...

Ripple Fan

Old idea, new twist.

Today's Gratitude Item: Not getting rained on during Cross Country!

Tonight is the start of Yom HaShoah.

The image below contains 2,022 names of those who perished in the Holocaust. The names are from the Central Database of Shoah Victims' Names.

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: My 12th graders were going to miss some much needed class time due to a year group photo which was scheduled when we are meant to have class. This was postponed meaning my students could continue to get work done.

Wave Celebration

I get a lot of waves when creating art, this one was made entirely out of fractal ribbons.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making it home safely from dance class. Had I known we were due for gusts of up to 140 km/h I would have avoided going out - especially as getting home involved going over the Harbour Bridge. Slowing right down and using the inside lanes of the bridge meant my journey was 'only' quite scary rather than being outright terrifying.

Vertical Surprise

Was not expecting this to look quite so good.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being reminded to take bread to school! I had my 'dip' all ready to go but after a week of matzos, almost forgot to take the bread that goes along with said dip.

Trapped Radar

It took ages to set this one up. The effort was worth it though.

Today's Gratitude Item: Marking over 70 PowerPoint assessments for my 11th grade classes. It took ages and was mind numbingly tedious but at least it is now done.

Saturday, April 07, 2018

Spin Twist

Fining a suitable gradient was anything but easy.

Today's Gratitude Item: Making small in-roads into my massive marking mountain. At this point any progress is worth celebrating.

Friday, April 06, 2018

Modern Wall

Every so often I feel the need to create a series of checkered squares. I have no idea why this is.

Today's Gratitude Item: Winning some petrol vouchers. Every Friday there is a draw at staff briefing where three prizes are given out, a bottle of wine, petrol vouchers and a voucher to a local eatery. Today I won the petrol vouchers which was a lovely surprise and a great start to the day.

Thursday, April 05, 2018

Modern Lace Curve

If in doubt, curve, make it look shiny and then render.

Today's Gratitude Item: That editing a bunch of WordPress posts for a client took much less time than feared thanks to the 'quick edit' option.

Wednesday, April 04, 2018

Wet Area

As in here are some funky tiles which might adorn a 'wet area'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Remembering that python has an 'evaluate' command. Tomorrow's programming class is going to be fun.

Tuesday, April 03, 2018

Weird Strom

Somehow the disparate elements work quite well together.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting the hang of GIMP's 'align' tool. As is so often the case, this tool is incredibly powerful and not well documented at all.

Ice Fern Hole

Who knew that the humble fern could be so versatile

Today's Gratitude Item: Matzos French Toast. This is a 'once a year' special that is worth waiting for. Basically it's french toast (another rare treat) where instead of bread, one uses matzos.

Old leaves

It's autumn in my part of the world and every year that fact seems to be reflected in the fractals that appear on my screen. Weird.

Today's Gratitude Item: No school tomorrow (or the next day). Having time to catch up / catch one's breath is extremely valuable. School has been 'too busy' this term and getting a brief break has been wonderful.
