A bunch of interlocking circles that does not look quite as good as hoped.

Today's Gratitude Item: Two screens! My brother set me up with a split display over two large screens and the difference has been huge. He said it would increase my productivity and he was right. Having so much screen real-estate is a luxury that has, overnight become something of a necessity. Thanks bro!

Midnight Tides

When the ocean is a fractal, tides can look a bit like this...

Today's Gratitude Item: Finding a bunch of resources aimed at primary / middle schools that will be helpful in integrating programming into what teachers already do. I needed this for a workshop I'm involved in during the upcoming school holidays.

Softly Spun

If you weave light instead of more traditional materials, this can happen...

Today's Gratitude Item: Having some unexpected 'student free' time which allowed me to get a nice chunk of marking done.

String Ray

As in rays made of string (rather than the aquatic organism).

Today's Gratitude Item: Realising that using 'OR' in sql queries can be extremely powerful. I need to create a new database resource for my senior students for next year and incorporating 'OR' queries will be part of it.

Tree Top Star

Warm, inviting and light - this one is perfect for a Southern Hemisphere mid-winter Christmas.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally figuring out why some student code was not working correctly. In Python if the indenting is not quite right, weird things can happen!

Echo Wave

I liked the repeating pattern so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: That my middle school students really enjoyed the Caesar Cipher worksheet we did today. I probably made this too easy but they loved the idea of being able to write notes to each other that their younger siblings would not understand.

Spun Diamond Fan

Holes can be good - especially when they are spun around a bit.

Today's Gratitude Item: Having some extra time to get things done this afternoon.

Sunday, June 23, 2019

Wind Candle

Can't see the candle / flame shape? Try squinting.

Today's Gratitude Item: Aspirin! I don't often get headaches but being able to get rid of them quickly is a minor miracle.

Disc Weave

Sometimes 'simple' can be effective.

Today's Gratitude Item: Getting more space in my 'office' downstairs.

Friday, June 21, 2019

Molten Fire

I enjoyed playing with this one in 'post'.

Today's Gratitude Item: The end of an extremely busy week. Am looking forward to being able to relax in the very near future.

Thursday, June 20, 2019

Disc Co

Both the image and title are a play on a disco ball.

Today's Gratitude Item: One of my students showed me how to use Chrome / Firefox’s ‘inspect element’ feature to access a colour picker. Really easy and super convenient.

Sky Net

Dedicated to all the Terminator fans out there.

Today's Gratitude Item: Great barista coffee from an unexpected source.

Hollow Curvature

This one sort of has a hole in it, hence the name.

Today's Gratitude Item: That a piece of code I wrote worked as hoped on the first attempt. Given that some guess work was involved,I'm counting this as a minor miracle.

Monday, June 17, 2019

Modern Tulip

It's either a really modern flower or a piece of weird architecture.

Today's Gratitude Item: A 'different' day today. I got to spend time with colleagues from other schools who are also involved in developing resources for the new level 2 standards. So far, so good although there is a lot of work that needs to be done in quite a short space of time (nothing new there).

Bubble Funk

I found a variation in Apophysis that made bubbles - playing ensued.

Today's Gratitude Item: Finally finding time to edit the contact form on my personal webpage to further limit spam that has been sneaking through. It's at this point that I say "I love regular expressions".

Simple String

Whilst this one is simple, it is also quite stylish so it got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: The developer's of this really useful tool for learning about LZW compression added a feature I requested that will make life even easier for my students.

Friday, June 14, 2019

Spherical Surpise

As the title suggests, this one was unexpected.

Today's Gratitude Item: The wheels on my lab chairs that were broken have now been fixed. It's a small thing but it makes a big difference to everyone's comfort level.

Wire Flower Power

The only problem with this one is that the pattern is very strong and it might be difficult finding one's icons...

Today's Gratitude Item: Taking the night off and reading a book instead of working. I believe the name for this is 'guilty pleasure'.

String Resonance

Plain but not so simple...

Today's Gratitude Item: Being toasty and warm on a rather cold day.

Tuesday, June 11, 2019

Blue Wave Hole

Holes can be a good thing.

Today's Gratitude Item: That following up on student attendance this morning took less time than usual. It's a small thing but it was a good start to the day.

Sunday Morning Special

Created on a Sunday afternoon (a long time ago) and finally posted on a Monday night.

Today's Gratitude Item: Receiving a speedy solution to this morning's parking problem. We have allocated parking at school but when someone parks the school van in your slot, resolving the situation can be tricky.

Sunday, June 09, 2019

Gentle Wave

Presenting another image that 'just worked'.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to snatch a bit of 'down time' during a busy day. Suffice it to say, lots of schoolwork was involved.

Shavuot 5779

A new take on a very old idea?

You can access the large version of this graphic by clicking on the image above. Images that are related to Jewish Holidays live at the preceding link where you can browse by holiday and download the image in high resolution (for printing etc).

Today's Gratitude Item: Doing the smart thing and not trying to go for a walk this morning. To say that the wind was both cold and intense would be an understatement.

Odd Ball Glowing

This one is strange but in a good way.

Today's Gratitude Item: An unexpected non-contact. The horrible weather meant that my 7th grade class who walk over from a nearby school opted to stay warm, safe and dry which meant they did not come for their lesson. The 'free time' was a lovely surprise.

Spun Puddles

I rendered it because of the 3D effect - only it turned out a lot brighter than expected...

Today's Gratitude Item: That refused to generate random strings for my students (we needed them as part of an experiment that we are doing on compression). This was the perfect excuse to create a fast and simple random string generator of my own. The nice thing about my generator is that it does exactly what we need and students can specify the exact length of the string with ease.

Gossamer Spirals

Here are more spirals with a slightly unexpected twist.

Today's Gratitude Item: A decent turn-out at dance despite the rainy weather. Even better was the fact that the rain had stopped by the end of the session which meant not getting wet when leaving.

Tuesday, June 04, 2019

Border Line

The wave pattern appealed so this one got rendered.

Today's Gratitude Item: That the Internet that went down in my non-contact and was back up again in time for my fourth period class. The only thing worse than 'no Internet' is 'no Internet and having a class of 28 kids sitting around doing nothing because they can't access their work which is in the cloud'.

Monday, June 03, 2019

Memory Lines

This one would have been perfect for posting back on ANZAC day.

Today's Gratitude Item: Almost completing the first big part of a resource that I'm working on. I have a working 'recipe moderniser' that I'm quite pleased with. The program allows users to scale recipe ingredients and automatically converts ingredients into grams where possible (which makes baking easy assuming you have an electronic scale).

Sunday, June 02, 2019

Pretty Pink Flower

There is a sort of hidden star of David in this one.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being able to retrieve student work from the 'school' computers and pass said work on to my student who is currently overseas - all from the comfort of my own home (at 11:30pm at night). When technology works, it is a wonderful thing.

Fountain Fit

It's good when things fit together easily.

Today's Gratitude Item: Being warm, safe and dry on a very rainy day.
